0 F which is is warmer yesterday which was -5.
At least it isn't too windy only about 5 mph.
Up here when it's sunny and blue skies out then it gets cold as outside.
So it is beautiful outside but you don't want to stay out in it long.

Supposed to snow again tonight, not much, maybe 1-3" Heavy wet snow. Yay!

At least it pretty much melts during the day.

Also, it IS winter, so, snow isn't unusual.

Our clear beautiful sunshine winter days mean
serious temperature drop once the sun starts setting.

Parking at the Univ of Houston sucked. I'd typically arrive at 7:15am. In winter the temp would be say 40F; by 2:00pm the sky would be cloudless, the sun would push the temp to 75F. Some of my classmates would ask me why I was carrying a coat.

Yes, some of you think of 40F as approaching balmy .

40 F up here this time of year is bad news because everything melts and everything turns to ice when thing inevitably freezes again.
Even worse the rivers and lakes that are the only way to get to many places become really dangerous.

I'd go crazy. Knowing that I was facing freezing cold and high winds day after day for months and months.........

Don't forget that for a big chunk of that you only get five hours of sunlight.
But if you grow up with it, there isn't anything weird about it.
Here in Anchorage the rule was, "At least we aren't Fairbanks."
With -60 F in the winter and +100 in summer, dessert conditions, and less culture than yogurt there was a good reason for that.

Now with global climate change, the winters in Fairbanks have gotten warmer and we've had ones with almost no snow which meant we had forest fires all summer.

    Nice ! Warm for January.
I will be working outside this next 2-3 weeks welding railing onto some concrete wall at a one percenter house, so I need dry weather.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

We are in a great weather pattern here, one we have not seen much of the last few years.
Days in the 20's to low 30's, nights around 20.
We have a good snow base, and we get daily lake effect snow, an inch or two at most, that puts fresh powder on top of that base and makes the cross country skiing fantastic.
Here's what it looked like yesterday during a snack break:

    Sunny
But we’re supposed to get a snow storm tonight
So we’ll see the results tomorrow
Or Monday, since it’s snowing all day

Snow's here, 5-9" expected through tomorrow night. Blowing, drifting, dogs and cats living together, real biblical stuff!

    Yeah, the storm slowed down
It’s hitting tomorrow morning instead of tonight
And supposed to last through Monday into Tuesday
Instead of 3-5...it’s going to be 6-8.
Frankly, probably be more considering how it’s slammed the rest of the nation.

    I’m prepared
Got the car covered, all the tools out
More than food and plenty of water.
    Right now, just chill

Maybe I’ll go down and see what the bay looks like
Never seen that yet here. Something always different.

More snow, some freezing rain, straight up rain, then the cold temps hit. Not getting out of the mid teens until at least next Wednesday. Below zero temps at night. Good times.

But, it IS winter, so, not totally unexpected this time of year.

UPDATE: Now, it's windy as fuck. Drifting snow, cold temps, yup, still winter.

Snow's gone, now it's just bone chilling cold. Highs won't get out of the low teens and overnights will be below zero.

    Again, WINTER.

    Crappy...all week
    Everywhere is crappy all week
Winter storm alerts, power outages cover map as storms slam US

That's why I decided to stay home for vacation.
    The nation is getting slammed.
Then you've got the crud on top of it.
Then you're hearing of crashes and backups everywhere.

Driving stressed is not my idea of a vacation.
And I'm certainly not flying anywhere.

    I'll just hibernate all week.
    get some rest.

I'd go have a talk with that damn groundhog...except its frozen up there.

Just got out of an ice storm here...fortunately, the roads are decent.
But that doesn't mean I want to drive all over with all the crazies on the road.
