Talked to my cousin yesterday she lives right outside of Houston. she said that she has not had power for 3 days at that point. but she had plenty of food and firewood. she said that she is able to charge their electronics in the car thats in the garage. Said that the kids were ok at first but starting get cabin fever.
spoke to my sister yesterday (my dad and both my sisters live outside of St. Louis) and she said they were good. still had power and all was good. Just cold.

I live south of Atlanta and ir rained sat, and sunday. woke up yesterday am and it was 35 degrees, as the day progressed it dropped to around 25. most of the water had dried up at that point so not much ice. currently its 21 degrees

    kramus what I might see

The cold had to go somewhere. Dammit. It’s tough on everything, this world wide adjusting to climate fluctuations.
Sometimes I feel like we both know too much about the world and nothing much about anything at all.

It is advertised to be 100f in Adelaide today. Not very pleasant at all. I hope the fire fighters are not required today. [IMG]

Our power came back on about 40 minutes ago. I haven't tried the water yet, but we're now on Boil Water Alert, so I'm glad we have enough for the basics.

Now our fournace is acting up, making a weird whining noise. It's set on 70, but cut off with the house temp at 60. I'm leaving it alone for now--like I know anything about HVAC--60 is better than 47.

    Did it snow there?
Check the furnace exhaust and make sure it is not blocked.

The furnace is now running without the whining. FIIK why.

Oh yes...Last night our elec cut off at 10:00PM. So we had power from about 3:20 to 10:00. It came back on at 9:00AM. What's weird is the 10:00 and 9:00 times were nearly exact. Problems with the grid? Hmmm....planned?

Now the part I've been leaving out, don't want to sound whineyass. We're one house away from a power line easement; on the other side of the easement my neighbors never lost power at all. They're on another grid, we learned that during one of our hurricanes.

If rolling brown outs are taking place,
we made our sacrifice...during the three coldest days and nights.
Let my neighbors or any area that never lost power go nearly three days/60+ hours, and then another 11 hours, without power.....of course they would have much, much warmer temps. And have clear roads to track down hot food. And be able to cook outdoors without freezing their ass off.

    Yes, we're pissed off.

Our Texas Republican US Senator Ted Cruz (yes, THAT Ted Cruz) flew his family down to Cancun. He's supposed to return "nearly immediately" and has requested protection from the Houston Police Dept.

I hope HPD doesn't send him any protection.
And some radicals greet him to express their disgust.

We tested the water at around 3:00PM. Even with two spigots open and two sink taps open, we had water running out one of the vents in the overhang.

The good news is inside the house we only have a few damp spots. We've started the process with the insurance company. And we're in a hotel.

The bad news is the insurance company only had clean-up companies they could recommend. Basically we get to do all the work, save broken bits, pay everyone, and submit the paperwork. Then hope we get paid.

In all likelihood the pipes in the attic would've been fine with the heat from the house. If we had had power to run the electric fournace.

I saw some of the pictures of Texas last night on the news. Thats some crazy shit.....
I saw where an apt complex went up in flames and a hotel caught on fire. They said the issue they were having was that all the hydrants were frozen and they were bringing in water trucks one right after the other. I hope they are all ok.

Their is a big difference in 30 degree freezing weather and 15 degree freezing weather.

To all my fellow TFPers please stay safe and warm if you can. If i can do anything do not hesitate to hit me up.

I have some cousins that live out that way and so far they are all doing ok, just going through the rolling power outages. She has 3 kids, one of them is 5 months old so I can only imagine what she and everyone else is going through.

    I love all of yall

    Stay safe everyone.

It's warming up here. Still tons of snow, some bitchin' icicles, sun's out, (no buns out though, still too cold). More snow on the way tomorrow into Monday. This time it'll be more waterlogged and heavier. Wonderful.

My heart goes out to all you folks down in the south. Not having to experience this crap on a regular basis makes it hellacious to live through. Be safe and I hope it heats up quickly.

The plumber, going through HomeAdvisors, couldn't make it at 10 this morning.

    We're rescheduled for 9AM tomorrow.

The cutoff valve next to my house broke. It kept the water out during the freeze, but once things warmed up enough for me to open it to test the pipes, it didn't completely close. The cold froze and broke the old valve. The water is now shut off at the meter (which is where I should've cut it off to start).

Now I don't know if having the house warm would've saved the pipes.

We're thankful. Many people have it much worse than us.

Finally got a handyman, not a real plumber, to show up. Bad news is he's having to track down connectors for galvanized pipes.

Hot, hot, hot. Had a nice 30-45 minute rain storm move through though. We need the rain here, been exceptionally dry. Think we got an inch or two. The fact that it was steady was nice. Nothing horrible, just a nice, steady rain storm. Sun's back out and the temps are getting back into the upper 80's. After tomorrow, things will get more seasonal. High's in the low to mid 80's. I'd really like more rain though.
