    FYI
AstraZeneca’s vaccine is poised to become the leader in most of the world

I've been watching the AZ/Ox since the start.
Except for some brief stumbles, it still is the BMOC.

I want to see the long term run of each of these...there's always ups & downs for each. (distribution, volume, effectiveness, side-effects, etc...)
    None are full-proof.
But what I've seen of all of them, something is better than nothing. (so get what you can...as soon as you can....from any of them)

I find this interesting...how there's two different tones or perspectives in the articles.
WHO chief says investigators 'can't rule out' theory suggesting COVID came from Wuhan lab
WHO says coronavirus unlikely to have leaked from China lab

Now, there are 2 different sources and subject matter experts too.
One is saying we "can't rule it out" waiting until all the info comes in, the other is taking a definitive stand, saying Nope, very unlikely...assuming a certain path.

Now most of the media decide to hype the 2nd...so that becomes the perception.

But I've seen this happen before...politicians do it all the time. (and also other scientists)
One makes an authoritive statement...and people seems to follow that.
Where the other says, we'll see, it's complicated, we need to get all the answers and it will take time. (the news hates that, they want a horserace or headline.)

Good science (and investigations) say the 2nd.
But we fall into the trap again and again listening to the black and white sturdy right now answer of the first.

Me, I'll wait...there's still more to find out. (my own resources say, something more is going on here...and scientists have been wrong too - and I love science.)
    My intuition says hmmmm...

It's kind of like they change if eggs are good or bad for ya.:rolleyes:
    Needs more study, folks.

500,000 dead, a number almost too large to grasp

The problem is this...it's not accurate.
    1. The media always lags behind the count. (509,916 by most real time counts for today)
    2. The official count is about 20% lower than actual.

The number given is "confirmed", and may be repressed, neglected, ignored and all those other human factors that make some leave off numbers. Those people who die without a firm diagnosis may not also be included.
If you looked at how many deaths there have been above the annual norm, it's about 20% and even more. (experts say, this is likely due to Covid related deaths)
The world marks 2 million coronavirus deaths. The real toll is likely much higher - CNN

    So taking the number above and adding 20% - 611, 899 ...0ver 100,000 more.

And this doesn't factor in those non-terminal serious cases which may have long term impact - 3 times the amount - 1,835,697 - almost 2 million

Unfortunately many want to ignore this...many can't comprehend it.
Doesn't matter, still needs to be dealt with.

FYI - down at the bottom of the 2nd, there's a dashboard - but this is CDC, at least now there's not an administration trying to repress it...doesn't mean it's not repressed some.

This article is actually a scary read. Especially given coronaviruses can mutate, it brings the real possibility that the current vaccines won't actually work in the longer term. It begs the question - is herd immunity even possible?

I helped 3 people get their vaccination appointments while I was in meetings.

it was a little bit of effort but these people weren't able to do it on their own.

Big pharma has no interest in anyone getting healthy

This is why we can’t have nice things...

Thank goodness we have an administration that’s inclined to push through things now
Rather than hindering for cash and ego.

I’ve seen Pharma from the inside
Know the real deal...it’s ruthless. Just vicious.

    IMHO, people count.
Let’s try to not allow them to die or not get hurt or sick.
    Just saying.

As some say, “Do the right thing.”

my albuterol used to be $2 for 3 pumps for 90 days. When the CFC changes forced recipe changes, they were able to get a variance that allowed them to now charge $150 for the same 3 pumps.

That sucks. My wife got caught up in the EpiPen bullshit; IIRC her co-pay at one time was $78.00.

My local state in Oz has passed 40 days without any local transmission. The only active cases are from returning overseas travellers. Kind of pleased our government went all in on closing borders early. Definitely indoor number restrictions, working from home, mandatory masks and a lot of hand sanitiser helped.

Sorry, meant enough vaccines for everyone by May
It will still take time to distribute and give shots.

Greg Abbott IS a complete and total idiot (un pinche pendejo). He's was clueless at the start of the pandemic, and hasn't learned a damn thing. All he hears is "my business is hurting."

The business situation is sort of/maybe/possibly/kind of understandable...to a certain degree. What is so fucking difficult about wearing a mask? Esp if you're giving businesses the full go ahead.

Everything has been fucked up since the beginning

And is continuing to be fucked up in many places.

If there’s been a way to fuck it up, we’ve done it.
    Not just the government...people too.

We have a talent at harming ourselves.
