We US Americans put a lot of faith in the SCOTUS to do the right thing. The legal buck stops there...unless they decide not hear a case which is a form of consent.

The SC failed miserably during McCarthyism. What kind of behavior will a conservative majority support? This could get weird and ugly if the Republicans decide to challenge the election results. They've been laying the groundwork, namely mail-in ballots, for months.

This will be, in all likelihood, the rule rather than the exception.

The deniers becoming infected with covid-19 doesn't bother me. Them subsequently using medical attention, supplies, medications, hospital beds, etc that should used for people who tried to avoid covid-19 does bother me. Them becoming spreaders does bother me.

What's next for SCOTUS? Maybe rule to allow tobacco companies to market directly to preteens?

I also greatly bothers me because MY WIFE will be there taking care of and possibly being infected by them, which will mean I am infected regardless of the steps we take to avoid it.

Ginni Thomas - Aiding & Abetting the Capitol Insurrection

Ok, this would definitely put a twist on things, if true.

But I doubt Thomas would ever resign.
    He’s a stubborn sort.

I wonder if the New Democratic led Congress would consider impeachment???

Certainly would push further a justification by the Dems for expanding the court.

I have a feeling things are going to get more twisted.
More “interesting” times for the US.

Supreme Court ends Trump emoluments lawsuits

I'm so tired of letting players go from corruption.
This is why people get pissed and the damage continues.

Enforce the laws, make them accountable.

    SCOTUS does this.
GOP wants to ignore the insurrection.
    spinning doors
    and so on...

And we wonder why the insanity continues.
It's like saying a serial killer..."He was such a quiet boy..."

    See the obvious
    Address the obvious

Trump got away with some much bullshit and god knows how much he scammed out of the US

    Just fucking lovely.

Conman Trump breaks laws while serving as POTUS, and it now no longer matters because he's no longer POTUS.

Hell, let's apply that everyone! LEOs can kill people while on the job, but get to walk once they leave the job. Accountants can embezzle. Corporate leaders can lie, pollute, even kill. The list would be endless.

Every time I think about the SCOTUS, I remember the total lack of guts and good sense during the Red Scare, Cold War, and of coure McCarthyism.

    Freedom to worship.

Freedom to go forth and spread all variants of covid.

Freedom to kneel to political pressure.

Freedom to kneel to financial pressure.

Freedom to kneel to voting block pressure.

The Supreme Court isn't even bothering to make up a valid reason for continuing to sit on Donald Trump's tax returns

So, just in this circumstance alone
Will Biden and the Dems use the “nuclear option”
And expand the court, to balance it out.

Goodness knows that someone is going to discuss it with the court to find out what’s going on.

Actually, this would be a good use of Harris’ lawyer and Attorney General experience. To at least, get information...

I wouldn’t nudge or push them.
They are a whole other branch of government
Do NOT want bad blood with them.

T pushed his luck with them
    And it backfired

Supreme Court to Republicans trying to overturn election results in PA: GTFO of here with that bullshiat

Well, at least SCOTUS is showing independence
    And a spine these days

Only Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch are catering to the cult.

But even they aren’t loony, as we’ve been seeing amongst quite a few politicians.
(the sentences coming out of their mouths...)

I appreciate some logic and discretion from the US high court.
This would be the most likely thing to prevent packing it.

Biden is not inclined unless pushed.

    Here we go.

Part of the Conman Trump legacy.

SCOTUS voted 5 to 4 not to hear the legal challenge to Texas' new restrictive abortion laws.

Several "red" states are planning to enact very similar (anti) abortion laws.

Anyone want to bet on the chances of the tighter voting laws getting overturned by the SCOTUS?
    Even heard?

With the Congress and Prez being Dems
    They can restart the ERA
And add a women’s body rights portion

Make the rounds of the states again
In a more modern time where women have even more influence and leverage

The times, they are a changing…
    It makes a difference

Then, there’s nothing SCOTUS could do.

That would be nice; I'll celebrate when it actually happens.

    The reality I see:
    The law stands.
People go to jail, and prison.
They have to pay prohibitive legal fees.
They have their lives ruined because of having a criminal record.
    Etc.

Supreme Court justices, including Barrett and Kavanaugh, sound skeptical of Texas abortion law — Los Angeles Times

    It’s a topsy-turvy world at times…
You’d never guess that some of the conservatives would go against the new Texas law.

BUT, they’ve actually made it easy for those conservative judges to have their cake and eat it too.

They don’t have to judge abortion
They’re ending up judging law enforcement and court procedures.
No judge is ever going to give up their ability to rule on a lawsuit or legal matter.

Texas takes the law out of government hands, including the court…and basically overwhelms the system…if not the suit targets.
There would be so many individual suits going on it would be ridiculous.
Not even under principle of some philosophical differences…but often just to make a buck.

SCOTUS has tons of reasons to kill this one.
If anything, to nix the precedent.
Can’t imagine how many laws would be made after with this method.

Just wonder if Gorsuch and Thomas will join
Alito I think is too conservative and short-sighted and overly passionate. (From what I’ve seen)
