Well, it's time for my annual resurrection of the NCAA College Volleyball thread.:D Nebraska is at it again, having been in every NCAA Volleyball Tournament since 1982!

Huskers weren't supposed to get to the tourney this year, between injuries and starting three true freshmen on the team. At 25 and 7 they weren't expected to go very far in the NCAA but after sweeps (a sweep is three straight wins to win the match) over Campbell, Florida State, and Illinois the Husker girls got to face the Texas Longhorns, a top seed hosting their own Regional, number 2 seed 27 wins and only 1 loss.
Nebraska won the first two sets, Longhorns squeaked out a 25-23 win in the third and the Huskers won the fourth 25-21.

The Final Four starts Thursday in Columbus, OH with Nebr vs. Pitt and Wisc vs. Louisville.
Huskers have already lost twice (!) to the Badgers and #1 Ranked and undefeated 32-0 Louisville is coached by Dani Busboom Kelly a former Husker player on the 2006 NCAA Title team, and assistant coach. That should be interesting if Nebraska can get that far.

And I have to say, it always feels great to beat Texas.:D (sorry @Chris Noyb )

I grew up during the now disbanded Southwest Conference (SWC) rivalry, and attended the Univ of Houston. I have no love, or even any like, for the UT Longhorns  and the Texas AM Aggies .

But...since the Lady Huskers VB team has been so successful for so long, perhaps some humbling is overdue :p.

They did get some humbling earlier in the year, losing to two un-ranked teams. Huskers were 6 and 6 against ranked teams. Most teams don't have the good fortune to play a dozen ranked opponents during the season.
But to go into top seed Texas home court with three true freshman starters and come out with a win, only a couple of points away from a sweep, is priceless.

I don't think they can get much humbled from here on.

Why, because they're already already well into the area where they are expected to lose.;)

There's two teams in the Final Four that have already beaten the Huskers (Louisville once and Wisconsin twice) so they are expected to lose.;)

Like they were expected to lose against the Longhorns.;)

So any win they get from now on is just sauce on the enchilada.:D

Well, to pretty much everyone's surprise Nebraska is still in the running.

Tonight the Husker Volleyball girls beat Pittsburgh 3 sets to 1 to play for the National Championship.
    Nebraska 16 25 25 25 (3)
    Pittsburgh 25 17 20 22 (1)

Wisconsin defeated Louisville in 5 sets to play Nebraska for the National Championship in an all Big Ten match on Saturday

    A heartbreaking close loss.

    Nebraska 25 29 23 25 12 (2)

This was one of the closest matches I've ever watched and I watch a lot of women's Volleyball. Neither team could keep any separation over the other and the longest NCAA Championship Game on record.

A five set match, the longest Championship Match in NCAA history, with the Badgers, over five sets, scoring 116 points to the Huskers 114.
So Nebraska now has 5 runner-up trophies to go with their 5 National Titles.

All in all, not bad for the team picked to finish 3rd in the Big Ten, lost three of their first nine matches and four more in the Big Ten.

    I'm starting to sound like a real fan-girl, I know!:D:D:D:rolleyes:

This reminds me of visiting Oklahoma

    were the only source of
    pride in OK.

Resurrecting this volleyball thread -- Went to Volleyball match yesterday in Omaha, #2 Nebraska vs. #17 Creighton went down to the wire. Wednesday night, 15,797 fans saw No. 2 Nebraska (6-0) fend off No. 17 Creighton (5-2) in five sets: 25-18, 25-23, 25-27, 17-25, 15-9. Set a new NCAA attendance record. I'm the one in red...
