Increasing signs omicron Covid variant has been circulating for a while — CNBC

    Well, no shit Sherlock
Haven’t ya figured out by now that’s always the case???

We formally detect it…it’s been replicating for months beforehand.

There’s no stopping it, we’re always playing catch-up
So solution…prepare as IF it will come.
    Prevent if possible, with Vax.
Maybe mask…maybe volume of people, indoors.
    The more that take steps
Sooner or later it whittles down.

    But NOOOO
We got people kickin and screaming about
Freedom and inconvenience and and and

    So the cycle repeats…

Me, I’ve just gotten to the point of protecting myself when I can. And just roll my eyes at the circus of others.

Well, at least we don’t havta worry about population control…

There are supposedly asymptomatic cases, so those people have "natural immunity", however, way too many people feel that their healthy body has natural immunity. And there isn't a good way to test a blood sample to know if you can't get sick. I know that I have recovered from a lot of colds in my life, so maybe I have a better chance of having some immunity than others.

Some people have Covid with symptoms and recovered, so they have "acquired immunity". They are right to wonder why the government isn't looking into their ability to fend off re-infections and give them Covid passports without necessarily needing a vaccine. There are 800,000 who didn't recover though, and it isn't a great way to get immunity if there is an easy shot way. Hopefully the pills will reduce the amount of deaths in 2022, but they need to help the people who get infected build immunity too.

This is due to the fact you CAN get it again.
Yes, one may get it and fight it off…getting some natural immunity.
But that same person may still get it…likely not as bad, but not guaranteed not to be worse.
And a person can still be a carrier…of variety of scales.
This isn’t a linear thing. Black and white.
It’s situational…with changing situations each time exposed.
The odds may be more in ones favor.
But that can’t be shown yet.

Plus, there’s a record of the vaccine.
Can’t guarantee that with a natural immunity.
The tests aren’t that good enough yet to prove it.

They’ll have trouble tracking the pills too.
And whether it truly does the trick.

Right now, the shots and the records of getting them are the only truly reliable way of giving a “passport”.
That and some testing history of the effectiveness of them.

With omicron, many vaccinated Americans will at some point test positive. Here’s what to do.

My wife is getting her booster after Christmas, and I got an SMS yesteday saying I could book a time for my booster shot so I'll take it in January. Some kid in my sons class tested positive, so we tested my son and thankfully he was negative. Christmas celebrations can proceed.
There has been an increase in cases here in Sweden, but so far number of deaths are remaining pretty low. They've re-introduced some recommendations such as working from home when possible, and added requirement to show proof of vaccination for certain activities with more than 100 people. Things could be better, but they could also be a lot worse.

On a happy note, my wifes brother is coming from the US to celebrate with us for the first time in two years since vaccinated americans are now allowed to enter Sweden again. We haven't told the kids so it'll be quite a surprise for them when he arrives Christmas Eve.

My wife got her Phizer booster on Tuesday morning, and started feeling totally lousy early Wednesday. The sucky part is we both caught really bad colds at about the same time; the past four days have been horrible, and even now neither of us is 100%.

I'm not going for my booster until I'm feeling completely recovered.

Experts warn COVID cases still climbing amid rise in child hospitalizations | WTOP News

The big problem with this Omicron variant, is that it's much easier to get (estimated 1o times more than the original)
And can get through even the vaccinated...to give it to them (although, they're unlikely to go to the hospital or die because of the vax)
It's not as powerful...so it's running through areas fast.

BUT...those that did NOT get the vax...the antivaxxers, young people, children...they're more likely to get it now
In volume...so those people are now going to the hospital. (or at least now impacted)
I'm starting to see those who thought they were fine...get it. (or haven't gotten a booster...more likely to get it than those that did)

Much less anyone potentially spreading it. (although, those with shots, are less likely)

It's like we have to learn this lesson all over again...

One thing I have noticed is that employers are making employees feel guilty or feel bad about missing work due to the employee not feeling good or having symptoms.

Here at my work their are several people that are out that have tested positive for corona.
I have herd the statement "we need everyone here. its the end of the year. We need everything closed out"
personally its fucked up that employers are that way.
We don't get paid for time missed with covid anymore. If we want to get paid we have to use PTO. And some people do not have any PTO time.
I have herd fellow co workers make the statement that "If i dont feel good im still coming to work anyway, i need the money"

    Its a same

That’s dependent on how much the employer cares about the employees.

My company (125+ employees, $750M company, so not small) has a virtual meeting every Monday morning. The last two Mondays in a row the CEO has told everyone ‘Please don’t come to the office any day you don’t have a specific reason to. Please work from home every day possible. Even if you test negative for COVID, if you are sick, work from home. We can’t and won’t make rules for your private life, but please make smart choices there too, to keep you and your family safe.’ That’s been an ongoing mantra since I started here ‘We will be flexible to protect your health.’ It’s pretty refreshing, and I’ve watched them back up those words with action.

My area just mandated masks in public stores and restaurants again.
Don't need them if you sit down. (which doesn't make sense  ...air is air it just doesn't stop flowing)

Basically either wear them..or do the outside thing again. (yes, yes...I know it's cold outside. BUT Nature and the virus doesn't care if your comfortable or not)

I'm hearing about many coworkers and groups getting Covid quick (probably the omicron version)
I know my fitness trainer did. Not going to the gym for now. (she said it's safe as long as wipe down the machine...BUT again, that's not how this works. it's airborne, not touch so much )

Paris is actually making people wear masks outdoors even (not that I agree with that)
France tightens COVID rules, makes masks mandatory outdoors in Paris

My work has pushed back "return to office" again...
    Fortunately, I stay remote 100%
However, I'm worn from the isolation...want to go to things, events and such.
Nope...my ass is home and alone this New Year's Eve and Day. :(

Hopefully, next year is a bit more linear, stable and solid.
I'm tired of the covid cha-cha. (and all the other damn cha-cha's )

Where was this at months ago?
Will it test for all the variants present and future?

The fed website for free at-home test kis is now open in "soft launch" ahead of tomorrow's official launch.

    www.COVIDTests.gov

I just placed an order to receive four test kits. No indication of the which of the home test kits it will be.

I picked up a free iHealth at-home antigen rapid test kit (2 tests - results in 15 min) at the library the other day.

Again, the antigen tests are reportedly not as reliable (more false negatives) as the tests where you send a swab to a lab for analysis but worth having on hand at the first sign of possible symptoms.

Florida health official placed on leave after encouraging employees to get vaccinated

    This is insane!
This is part of the reason why we don't have more control of this.
Higher rates 0f death and hospitalization
    Longer waves of surges
Longer times of it sticking around
    More costs - pure $$$
And why we have shortages longer

An anti-vax Czech singer died after she intentionally caught COVID-19 in an attempt to get a health pass

I don't understand...the instability of some thought process.
Don't stick your finger in the electrical socket
Don't put your hand in the flame
    And so on...

Why would you believe to intentionally get a disease??? Something that kills...millions. Proven. documented.

I guess this is why they have Darwin Awards.

The insanity of Ron DeSantis has infected Florida. What's really scary he could step in as the replacement should NPD Trump be forced out of running for future political office.

I have ZERO sympathy for anti-vaccers. It would be nice if the harm caused by those Willfully Ignorant Assholes (WIAs) was limited to other WIAs, but it isn't.

Australia tossing Dejokovic out on his ass was great to see. He and "his people" knew about the very restrictive policies in Australia well in advance, and didn't take them seriously.
