Anyone here play tabletop? I had a DnD group I DM'd for about half a year before it disintegrated due to the key people moving out of town. I'm definitely thinking about putting the band back together with a new lineup. I just found this software that may help with some of the issues I was having as a DM

In any case, I made this thread as a place to discuss tabletop gaming, strategies, tips/tricks, etc.

    Have at you!

too bad you're in vc not l.a. i'd sit in via skype lol. i totally miss rollin up characters and playing these games. i used to do a lot of d&d, and then i moved on to a couple other things...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was actually a great d&d type game before it spawned the cartoon and movie. set in the modern world but where all types of animals mutated into humanoid characters, it was fun because you could either roll or choose your animal type depending on playstyle and each animal had special stats and abilities that could be popped off once or twice a campaign. i loved it.

runescape (i think) was just like d&d except we'd only use 2 10sided dice instead of the 20/8/4 sided ones and roll on %'s to see if we pulled off actions and attacks. we had a great dm that would pretty much pull adventures out of his ass and kind of narrate on the fly.

I'm DMing a current AD&D 3.5 group. We meet something like every month or two, mainly because of our conflicting schedules.

I must say, though, I'm a reluctant DM. I'm not very good at multitasking and keeping track of all sorts of information at once. I'm used to being a player.

I miss it - I haven't played D&D in many years. I recall a funny game where the DM was one of those 'super prepared' guys - he had everything for the first corridor scripted out, then at the first trap, someone pulled out a levitation device and threw his plans right out the window - 3 pages of handwritten notes soon followed.

I love playing AD&D, once took a character from 1st level all the way to 17th before the group finally broke up..almost 4 years for weekly gaming..I really miss it

I was really into Battletech as well. and great tabletop war game.

Wow, great response :) I'm happy to see that people are into this. It's really a great way to spend time with friends. Group storytelling. I usually DM because everyone else who DMs sucks balls and takes too long. I have a pretty creative mind so it helps. Has anyone tried D&D Insider? It would be nice to have access to the total archives and all the magazines, etc. As well as the character builder. Seems to take some of the intimacy out of rolling a character though... Hmmm....

I've tried the character builder once. Squeezed out four 10-levelers in under fifteen minutes.

it would be cool if there was some kind of webcam thing where a bunch of people could play a campaign in a chat room.

Agreed, I think that d20pro software I linked to would help facilitate that as well.

Do you guys use miniatures when you play D&D? We used to just use tokens but I got a great deal on craiglist for a lot of miniatures so I jumped at the opportunity.

If you're not opposed to pre-painted plastic miniatures, try this place:
    www.danddminis.com

I've been a fan of AD&D (1st edition) for decades and still play even today.

Always a pleasure to help out a fellow gamer- another site I recently found is https://ironwindmetals.com/store/index.php
(they have a good selection of props like tiny tables, altars and bookshelves- they're a bit pricey, but I guess that's what you pay nowadays. The last batch of metal miniatures I bought was back in 1995!) :)
