Russia suspected of stealing thousands of State Department emails

And they just figured out it got deeper and broader.
I make ya a bet that it gets even more DEEP and extensive.

Basically, they likely had insiders throwing them bones over the fence.

This going to be peeling an onion.
Making us cry the whole way.

Keep drilling, there's more to uncover.
Russia and China are like a bunch of cockroaches. (not the people....their governments)

U.S. to Sanction Russia, Expel Diplomats Over Alleged Election Interference, Hacking — The Wall Street Journal

    Wow!
    And meh...

This both a starting shot across the bow of Russia

But it’s not being paid attention to by the media much
And it seems like a hand-slap in comparison to all the audacious actions Russia has done recently.

Kinda like saying to the bully, “I’m telling on you”
    To which the bully shrugs
And the other kids go through their day oblivious.

The US and allies need to get Russia to back off.
Honestly, it will likely just deny and double-down

Instigation and chaos are it’s MO

It seems like something the US government just had to do to go through the motions.

There are secret threats that they could probably make. And maybe even other quieter government regulations they could pass that would hurt them more. But there has been a bureaucratic fight between Russia and the US for the past decade.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/07/14/the-magnitsky-act-explained/

This is one that the implementation was started under the Obama administration, but was changed. It is now back in effect. It might not be written with Russia in mind, but any oil and gas development by US companies have to disclose where the money went and who they "bribed".

The previous administration did put in some sanctions that were passed by the Congress, but who knows why and how badly they impacted Russia.

I wonder if Putin would give the Biden admin info about what happened for reduced sanctions and to put it behind us?

    Good question
Depends on if P thinks T might win another term
And it’s to his advantage to get more US damage.

Frankly, I think T is a lose cannon, even for P

And you’re right, he might throw him under the bus
He has to keep the Ogliarchs happy, that’s his real power base.

The ruble has already taken a dive from this.

Putin questions U.S. prosecution of Capitol rioters, saying mob carried only ‘political requests’

No use being an asshole unless you can prove it...

Putin has been mocking the Jan 6th riot for some time, this is his latest volley.

Yeah, because we see what you do with "political requests"

He would tolerate protests at the Kremlin so well.

As I've posted earlier today elsewhere..."Fuck you and the horse you rode in on" (sans shirt or not )

'I feel good': Biden sends message to Putin about US ability to retaliate for ransomware attacks

YET, Russia is still doing it. OR allowing it from their country.
BUT we're not truly doing anything.
Just effectively shaking our fists at them, saying "we'll get you for that" (then zilch)

Frankly, I'm as pissed at our government as much as Russia or China.
    We're pathetic.

Last big thing we did was Stuxnet (with Israeli help) vs Iran. YEARS ago.
T is gone. His supplicant game to Putin is gone.
    KICK ASS!!!

Kremlin papers appear to show Putin’s plot to put Trump in White House

Yep, doesn’t surprise me, Putin had a plan to put T in office as US President.
He saw a valuable asset to leverage.

And it wouldn’t surprise me, if he’s still propping up his base, allies and popularity…to get a 2nd try to cause havoc and chaos.

But this IS just the start
    It’s all unfolding

Justice Department says Russians hacked federal prosecutors

    SSDD
Just another Russian or Chinese hack and theft of US Federal government systems and information...

You'd think the feds would have learned by now, but no
They're inept and gullible...easy prey.

You keep being a target UNTIL you learn to defend yourself.

Jabbed in the Back: Mapping Russian and Chinese Information Operations During COVID-19

Geez, it's unending with these two countries.
    Russia and China
You see their names in the paper again and again.

It's like the Cold War never ended.

Question is...how do we stop it???

Do we FORCE the companies to have teams to scan for propaganda??? A new law?
Hey...we don't get out apps for free in truth. (they sell data)
The is it unreasonable to force them to have some responsibility? (like EPA rules that protect vs poison, OSHA rules that enforce safety...I guess we now need new laws to filter out state sponsored BS)

It's a surreal world...but the internet has become like the wild wild west.
Need a new sheriff....or at least a more hip one.

Putin’s endgame: Unravel the post-Cold War agreements that humiliated Russia — The Wall Street Journal

    No shit!

    Ex KGB wants USSR back.

    Tell us something new.

Question is, are we all going to stop him???
Not just the US, but most of the post industrial nations.

Meanwhile, Russia and China are in an “alliance”
But China is likely just using Russia as a distraction.
So it can continue to steal other nations blind
And continue its slow take over of Africa.

In the end, we somehow need to stomp on their dreams
While NOT triggering a nuclear war.

Problem is, Putin is somewhat insane.
So a face down may not work.

    The truth?
Because they think Ukraine belongs to Russia
Not true...but that's their mindset, especially Putin.

They also think NATO is getting too close.
    That's true...but that's not their choice.

One benefit from Russia going to war as the aggressor...Putin has thrown many of his foreign assets under the bus.
This now allows the Feds or any other government the full right to investigate ANY Russian activitiy.
So those politicians and officials getting $$$ from Russia are now targets.

There is no ambiguity, no "right" anymore...effectively, anything is like a terrorist activity. But enforced by sanction laws.
And any allies can't suppress or vote against it...otherwise they'll be under suspicion or look to be an ally of Russia. (this is backfiring on Trump too at the moment)

I wonder how many moles and underground Russian assets they'll find now. Politicians and officials at all levels.
Putin just gave Biden a BIG hammer.

Even if Ukraine is lost (and I hope not, truly)...this will help clean up the mess in the US.
And other countries too that Russia has been messing with.

We can respect and admire the resilience of the the Ukrainians.

That won't change the fact that the Ukraine military doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell against the Russian military. Resistance cells yes, military victory no.

I'm not sure how long they need to hold out for. The Russian re-supplys seem to be slower than I would have expected, and their military isn't making the progress that would be expected. Snipers and building to building fighting is very hard if you have a population that is willing to fight back.

We will see what happens with internal Russian politics now. They just had 8% of the value of their currency wiped out in the past week. There are quite a few people that are upset at this, especially if it is a dragged out battle with lots of Russian soldiers dying.

When Russia embraced capitalism they opened themselves up to the world economy; the sanctions might work. Putin could find his biggest fights the financial ones in Russia, not the military ones in Ukraine.

If the Russiam military leaders decide to defy Putin he's probably done. If they support Putin, and the sanctions seriously hurt Russia, we could see an attempt to return to Communism. The communist leaders were not the ones who suffered under communism.
