How America Lost One Million People
    * TFA is animated...keep scrolling.

In honor of the 1 million + that have died.
Likely 20% more, in addition too
And at least, 3 times as many that were hospitalized
    A shame.

Covid was vanishing last Memorial Day. Cases are five times higher now.

It ain't going away...not anytime soon.
I'm about to schedule my 2nd booster. (Maryland is pushing for it, hard)
    --- Double Post Merged, Jun 13, 2022 ---
FDA: Pfizer, Moderna vaccines for kids under 6 are safe, effective

    And that completes the deck.
    Took them long enough.

But we're here...now if we can just stop these waves/cycles from coming through.

    My question is this..

Why does it seem like they are not making such a big deal about corona as they once were?

    not everyone is vaccinated.

I personally have the first two shots. I have not gotten a booster, or a booster booster. Just haven't. No real reason

Yeah, most of the people in the hospitals and dying are people who refused to get vaxed.
It's hard to feel bad for them.

Citing risk from Omicron variant BA.5, White House urges Americans to get Covid-19 boosters — STAT

    FYI
Careful out there folks…at least be aware.
    Another wave is coming through.
Another variant …this one gets through immunities and shots better.
It’s also stronger than some of the other spin-offs.

Portugal, whose shot efforts have been robust and much better than the US, has had a significant rise in hospitalization and deaths.
Although South Africa, wasn’t impacted as much.

Still, y’know if they’re announcing it…it’s already here.
    And will be already spreading…

Simply be more aware of crowd, especially inside and for long periods. No need to go crazy with masks…yet. Be considerate of those that are older and people who may be more vulnerable. (illness, etc)

Me, I’m avoiding rock concerts or such.
Or if I’m at a gathering, I prefer outside events.
Helps that I’ve had all the shots and boosters.
I’m not going to eat out at restaurants as much.
(But that’s a bonus, since I wanna save money and lose weight…one more reason)
Still, the crud is still going…my niece just got it.
Likely won’t affect her…but she lives with my mom, who’s 75.

Take care and be well out there.
It’s still a pain in the ass.

Positive note, more remote work. :D

More than 40% of Americans lied about COVID-19 risk during pandemic, study shows

Betcha it was WAY more than that...

We're talking about if they lied at one moment or another...one situation or another.
We honest talking to the poll takers
And even if they friggin' could RECALL that they lied or not. (many live in the moment and ignore everything)

How do ya think it spread so far and so fast???
Even when we knew about it...and the multiple waves.

I'd estimate it was more like 75% conservatively, people making situational calls and such, wanting to DO things.
It's rare that everyone was totally considerate for all the people around them always (in a 2 year period)

We're just a bunch of snotty nosed kids often enough.

"Respondents gave a variety of reasons for their deception. Among them: They didn't think COVID-19 was real or a big deal; they didn't feel sick; they couldn't miss work or stay home; they were following the advice of a public figure or celebrity; and finally, it was no one else's business."

Yeah, I trusted no one from March 2020 to April 2021 except my parents who lived alone too.

But besides medical personnel and their families spreading it because they didn't have PAPR hoods and proper biohazard suits, and the home health staff going to multiple homes to assist elderly folks, it continued to spread at the same rate as it was. There were a whole lot of mistakes with airline travel back to the US and cruise ships, with those people not properly quarantining, and wearing goggles, not eating on planes, and washing hands enough.

We are lucky that this only killed 1% of the people who got it. We were very unprepared for airborne viruses and are still not very prepared.

Biden admin unveils new pandemic preparedness and biodefense strategy — POLITICO

This is a REALLY good thing. :D
And what should have been done decades ago.

This pandemic cost millions of lives, literally.
7 million lives gone…dead - probably way more
1 million in the US alone - again likely way more

And it cost Trillions - 1,000,000,000,000
    Multiple trillions in current impact
    And growing…

That doesn’t even count those hospitalized and impacted in health in various scales, temporarily, permanently or long-term.

OR the psychological impact to ALL.

    T’s administration fucked up.
The only good thing they did, is make it easy to get drugs through to all of us. Development and made safe.
But he even screwed up distribution, access and implementation. (Being a selfish, greedy SOB and his cronies too)

More died and more $$$ lost.
Same with other nations and leaders too.
He wasn’t the only one. (China we’re highlighting you especially…even NOW)

This IS a national security matter. Period.
But it’s also a citizen matter…a HUMAN matter.
Hell, it’s an ALL animal matter. (yes, they got the crud too, just not as much…that we KNOW?)

ALL countries should implement something like this.
And PRACTICE…test it out, tweak it and improve it.

    Why???
    Because it’s not if it’s going to happen, it’s WHEN…again & again.

This IS just as important as nukes, oil, military, stocks, everything we care about and invest into.

    Ignorance is NOT bliss.
Time to take it seriously and not sweep it under the rug.

    Why???
Because next time you could be dead.
    Or worse…a child dead
    Or worse…maimed for a lifetime.

    No BS. No exaggeration.

I still wonder what lessons were learned by the government and healthcare industry?

There needs to be hospitals all setup to deal with airborne viruses, and isolation/quarantine facilities. But that is unlikely to happen at the scale needed. The medical staff needs to have better PPE and air circulation/cleaning, and that is about the extent to what might happen.

US hospital flu cases highest in a decade amid winter vaccination warning

    https://www.npr.org/2022/11/05/1134523220/alcohol-death-rate-cdc-report

Yet more cascading consequences, deaths and hospitalizations after the initial surge of Covid-19
It is like the aftermath of an earthquake, with after tremors or tidal waves...or health issues after a hurricane.
If anyone thinks that we have heard the last of this or the numbers won't change, they've got another thing coming (maybe literally)
This was and IS a national security risk...and we are right to prepare for it, considering the over-ALL impact.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/11/05/china-zero-covid-policy-failure/

Speaking of national security risks, one of our primary sources of it (AND the original source of covid) is still dealing with it on a massive basis.
God knows the true impact - China's been covering for it since THE beginning. (still remember the satellite photos of burning bodies and multitude of death urns uncovered)
While it says, what deaths??? Nothing to see here.

    ===========

Makes ya wonder how many could have been saved. Gone now. :(
How many not harmed forced to the hospital or even just coldly the $$$ wasted...or the time, sanity, resources and productivity??
Many leaders FAILED those they are supposed to serve and nations to protect.

I hope we're ready for the next one.
Because, it's NOT if, it is WHEN...

I think the big thing that isn't being talked about is how the other vaccines used in different countries around the world have done against Covid-19 and the variants. I wonder how much pride in "their" vaccine is causing problems in other countries, yet maybe the US doesn't have the best vaccine either.

    Very true.
    Everything counts.

And many have cognitive biases and /or agendas.
There are many variables and factors in these long-term dynamics.
Even scientists have this issue and potential weakness, hindering full efficiency and effectiveness.

China Recovery Hopes Crushed by Record Covid Outbreak as Lockdowns Spread — The Wall Street Journal

What comes around, goes around…

I don’t wish this on the Chinese people, truly.
Yet, ironically, I do (and many others) on their leaders and government.

Since China’s dominate party is so strong, perhaps the only way to make is to make it collapse on itself.
    - Due to corruption
    - Subjugation of its own people
    - The real estate bubble
    - The likely potential they accidentally released Covid on themselves and the world. (Yes, that’s still a thing)
    - Factory “slave” labor
    - Bullying or threatening other countries
    - Supporting North Korea
    - Assisting Russia during its tyranny and aggression
    - Stealing from other countries globally
    - Instigating chaos and manipulation through proxies
    - Hacking into everything to potentially take command and maybe even ransomware.
    - Monopolizing rare earths and other commodities
    - Slowly taking over, perhaps colonizing Africa

And so on, with so much more. (All very true)

Makes the Chinese bad guy on Mr Robot look like an amateur by comparison

A bit of schadenfreude is not undue.
