I think the fact NPD Trump thinks mentioning Palmer's dick is amusing needs to be reported...along with the important news about how dangerous he is to our democracy.

The financial interests of the the media owners affecting news coverage isn't new in journalism, but it has expanded, especially in the golden age of nearly instantaneous news, & social media.

Newspapers could've done constant stories on how automobile dealerships cheated people on trade-ins, and esp repairs, but the newspaper classifieds section was filled with ads from the car dealerships.

Edward R. Murrow used to fight with his editors over content the paying sponsors didn't want aired. How many small town newspapers (yes, I remember those days, at least the tailend) kept newsworthy secrets in order to stay in business?

Even the news media that relies on donors as much as subscribsriptions are subject to pressure. What happens to donations if a news organization known for exposing -- fairly-- Trump and the GOP leadership publishes a bombshell -- fairly -- that severely damages the Dems?

I don't know if this is another diversion tactic from NPD Trump, he's trying to intimidate the news media, he needs the money, or what.

The fact they filed the case in conservative Texas, to be heard by a judge with clear history of conservative rulings, with ties to NPD Trump*, tells me they don't have a strong case.

    * "The complaint will be heard by Judge Matthew Kascmaryk, who was nominated by Trump in 2017 and has ruled in favor of conservative plaintiffs in several high-profile cases, suspending the FDA’s approval of the abortion drug mifepristone and blocking a Biden administration rule that required background checks for firearm purchases made at gun shows. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer denounced the Trump team for taking their case to “MAGA’s favorite judge.”"

There could be some interesting results. Suppose a Biden legal team decides to go after FOX News? I left Harris out of it because I'm thinking she would be quite busy as POTUS.

It is mainly because the "Bernie Sanders" viewpoint is completely missing in the media now.

The MSNM is falling right into the trap
set by Trump (actually most likely someone much smarter than Trump)
    by repeating the suggestion
Zelenskyy needs to resign in order for a resolution to the Russia-Ukrajne War.

    But it's flashy news.
Unlike the mundane  news the EU is likely to support Ukraine.

He offered to if it meant that the US would give Ukraine full protection from Russia but you know that won't happen.
Then as proof that he isn't a dictator the Ukrainian parliament unanimously voted for him as president again.
There is no country except Russia and the US who doesn't think he is the best leader for Ukraine.
    Fuck MSNM.

Sorry, I need to correct this.
They didn't vote for him as president again.
As long as there is a war on, there can't be another election.
They voted that he had their full support.

When she got to be afraid for her job.
Actually when she got to be afraid for journalism in general.
There are a lot of people in her industry right now who are turning spineless for fear of being put on a list by the current administration.
It's easy to be scornful of their fears but when these bastards have proved they are not above arresting judges and shipping non-criminals to concentration camps their fear is justified.

A post that isn't part of the public forum here prompted the return of some earlier thoughts.

In the US most of our news media are* for profit businesses. Their profits are based on viewership, ratings, subscriptions, clicks, etc, which is affects advertising rates, monetization, etc.

The businesses providing that money can & do influence how the news media covers the news.

The short attention span of the majority of viewers & listeners affects news coverage. Flashy new news, not boring in-depth & follow through news, is what people want. If you want the revenue you have to give the people what they want.

News media funded by, but not controlled by, the government can be a good thing. But that really only works when everything is going really well for the government. When things aren't going well the control kicks in (perhaps more like increases).

Some government news media is pure spin from the start. Any negative news is ignored, downplayed, or twisted into official lies. The people reporting the news can be easily replaced, or coerced into compliance.

One thing I find sad & infuriating is the amount of money that can, and is, being made in the US news media by intentionally spinning the news. Individuals with strong personalities make huge sums of money by intentionally ignoring, downplaying, & twisting the facts. Corporations play to target audiences, by giving the people what they want...to the extreme.

We're seeing the continuing success of the hard right news media, while the main stream news media continues to pursue new news, while toning down their reporting of negative news about our government.

Hitler controlled the news media. Putin controls the news media. It's happening in other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.

Social media is increasing its suppression of news.

We're headed for a situation where our government is going to control the news media directly & indirectly.

*I'm dealing with one of those verb noun disagreements I hate. News media is singular, I'm treating it as plural.
