If you've never watched Tod In The Shadows One Hit Wonderland, you are missing out.
He does deep dives into the bands that only have one big hit in the US.
This one on Beds Are Burning from Midnight Oil is one of my favorites.
Partly because of his reaction to MO as a band and the political aspects.
Good stuff.

 

Has he ever done Starland Vocal Band? We can't forget Afternoon Delight, no matter how much we want to. Two of the members co-wrote Take Me Home, Country Roads with John Denver. I always thought of SVB as a joke, I never realized they actually won some prestigious (that's debatable) awards.

Odd? note: The musicians I know are far less critical of crap "recording artists," even the ones who don't play an instrument or write songs, than non-musicians. I guess they know more about trying to make it in the biz.

 

Most of his takes on the one hits wonders are pretty positive.
Even the ones he doesn't like come down to being that they are mid which seems to be the true insult from musicians and real critics.
Something that isn't bad, but isn't good. It has no soul and was made just to fill space.

A sort of related story...

A some time in the mid 1980s one of my journalism professors gave our class a news story on Pol Pot & Kmer Rouge to analyze in written reports. After reading a few of the reports he realized the class was too young (and too ignorant) to know much about Pol Pot & Cambodia. My paper was severely lacking, but I did at about age 25 or 26 have some knowledge of the crisis in Cambodia.

Many of my classmates approached me later saying I should've spoken up when I heard them trying to figure who/what Pol Pot & Kmer Rouge was. We were free to discuss the assignment while working on it, but if I had spoken up everybody would've basically parroted what I said, be it accurate or inaccurate.
