Politics What is happening????

This, more than anything, left me completely dumbfounded.

I hope my brain is still functioning properly in 20 years when we (should) (hopefully) have many detailed analysis of the 2024 election. Right now I hope the people with access to the info the Repubs are attempting to alter are keeping proper records for future reference.

I consider the following a strong statement about women's rights in the USA.

I might've shared this thought already.

The Repubs love to brag about the tax cuts they hand out. They rarely mention the downsides such as the cuts benefit the super wealthy much more than the Average Joe, & they lead to cuts in services other than the usual target social services.

The following concerns Texas, but I'm sure what's happening is applicable in many states.

Houston is located in Harris County. The Harris County Sheriff's Dept had to bump their starting salary by a considerable amount to decrease the number of LEOs going to the Houston Police Dept for higher pay. Which resulted in Harris County commissioners fighting like hungry dogs over how make up the resulting budget deficit.

To me this illustrates how
tax cuts are defunding the police (DTP). The Repubs love to accuse "the liberals" of DTP when "the liberals" want to increase funding for mental healthcare & more training for LEOs to deal with people with mental health issues.

Why can't people understand the police are funded by tax dollars?

Why can't people understand cutting taxes takes funds away from the police, i.e. defunds the police?

Why can't people understand
the police,
the jails,
the courts,
the prisons,
the probation officers
are funded by tax dollars?

Why can't people understand cutting funding for the social programs intended to help the underprivileged leads to the need for more police, jails, courts, prisons, etc?


Does it make sense to be happy with a $500.00 tax cut savings, while paying $1,200.00 extra in tariff markups?

 

Texas governor Greg Abbott (R) is now speaking out openly in favor of Trump's offer to send troops to Texas should Texas' current crime investigation show we need federal help.

I had previously said I thought Texas was safe because Abbott wouldn't want the bad optics, now I'm not so sure. Austin & Houston are the two major cities in Texas that are blue. Austin is probably safe because it's our capital, & federal troops there would be seriously bad optics. Houston, however, could be targeted with bovine excrement "justifications" coming from Abbott.



I put this in this broad thread instead of the Texas thread because it ties into Verruckterfuhrer Trump's actions in other US cities.

 

If only the background were blue.
