Okay, we have the love songs thread, now for the breakup songs.

(If you don't have any because you always claim to be the one who does the breaking up, I don't want to know you.)

I'm not entirely sure it counts as a breakup song, but I totally relate to the fact that the guy is waiting for his woman to call, and she doesn't. He has no idea where he stands in the relationship, and now what is he supposed to think? Is she out with another man? Has she dumped him already?

The line, "Listen to the tears as they roll, roll as she turns to go
Down my face as she turns to go" ...well, I've been there before. Multiple times.

Sometimes you just can't quit that other person, even though they moved on so easily.

The last four songs on Donnie Iris' "King Cool" album are all heartache songs, this one (to me) is the most haunting. (But the others come close.)

One more, because although it's a sad song, it's so danceable!!!

No link because it has been posted several times.

If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot (RIP). A breakup song so beautiful many people don't realize it's a breakup song.

Edit: I changed my mind (more like since I was in YouTube anyways.....)

    Two gems from Jude Cole:

Sometimes it hurts, but sometimes it doesn't have to feel so bad.

I consider this one a breakup tune:

Probably doesn't sound like a breakup song, but according to the lyrics, he's been dumped... but he's also doing better, and moving on with his life.

My dad used to listen to this song, and now it's in my own collection. So delightfully upbeat, too.

Another one with a possible debate on whether or not this is a breakup song- but it's basically a guy who's had his fun and wants to move on, as it's his way.

Although I can't relate to the experience, this song does hold a special place in my heart. The entire Breakfast in America album, to be accurate. You see, my dad owned the cassette when it came out (in 1979, I think) and played it frequently during car trips to museums or other happy occasions during the early 1980's.

My wife absolutely loves this album. It was part of her Go To Comfort Music when she moved to the US from England in 1979.

I still listen to The Logical Song, which applies perfectly to our current political crisis in the US.

Well, not many others are as well-versed in getting dumped as I am, so it's fitting for me to undertake this task.

On second thought, John Cusack might also be a contender:
