    That's definitely it. Been a while since I saw that video. What's amazing to me about Tom Petty, his song love is a long road was used in the first GTA6 preview. Shot that right back up the charts.

    We had mentioned Bonnie Tyler earlier. An altered version of Total Eclipse of the Heart was used fairly recently in a TV commercial, which at least brought the song some attention. I have no idea if it charted a second time.

    Edit: Downey is the one I've seen numerous times. I don't really recall the Kia ad from the Super Bowl.

    That makes sense. The software here most likely doesn't ID every bot, & might've been overwhelmed by bots (see next paragraph).

    What was really strange is the number of "guests" increased from around 1,800+ to 2,480 in literally a couple of minutes. The count may have gone even higher.

    On another board I'm on, we are doing an experiment with ChatGTP. I set it up to read the most popular sub-forums of the board that are open to essentially all membership. It is starting with the oldest content and moving towards current day. There are over 20 years of posts, so we are talking about hundreds of thousands of threads and tens of millions of posts. So far it has completed one sub-forum for serious topics, about 15% of a sub forum around current events and politics, and about 5% through the main general discussion forum. It has zero access to anything other than what a normal member can see (no email info, no IP addresses, nothing private at all), and it has been asked to keep all the data to my personal ChatGTP account (so not out in the ether for anyone to quiery). Then we are throwing questions at it, like "what four people would you most want to go on a roadtrip with?" or "who would you pick for your zombie apocalypse crew?" The answers are hilarious, and often very spot on.

    I have no doubt ChatGTP is doing a good job, but I know from personal experience some people adopt an on-line persona that is much different from what they're like IRL. But it's very possible the nature of your board doesn't give members reasons to misrepresent themselves.

    Sitting at a hotel bar in Sioux Falls, SD after seeing my customer today. Grabbing an early dinner because my flight out is at 5am. The guy next to me starts a conversation and is super chatty. I usually am the type to just want to sit quietly and read when I’m somewhere like this, and my wife says I give off ‘leave me alone vibes’, but I engage and we start talking about Jeopardy, as it was on the bar TV a bit ago.




    Eventually he asks why I’m in town, then I ask him. He is John McGennis, the TV commentator for pro golf’s Champions Tour(essentially the old Senior Tour, for pro golfers over 50). Super friendly guy. A guy one year ahead of me in HS is a pro golfer, and he knew him well, and that guy is about to be old enough to compete on the senior tour (geez, talk about making me feel old). Apparently half the guys on the tour are staying here. John Daly and Fred Couples are in town, among a bunch of others. Obviously John Daly must be at a local wing place or strip club, and I’m not enough of a golf fan to recognize most golfers.




    But still, not exactly what you expect at a Hilton in South Dakota.

    Our experiences are radically different- I've been through SD a few times, and find it quite scenic. Not all of it, but a good portion of it, anyway. Back in 1993 I took a road trip to Montana and drove on 94 heading west through ND straight through the state...

    ...it was not an experience I'd want to repeat. (This is the short version.)

    Longer version: I hit the road and find myself at the rim of a giant bowl stretching off into the distance. There is nothing but brown & dark gray featureless land as far as the eye can see. I hit the accelerator and reach the other end of the bowl after what seems like an eternity.

    When I reach the other side of the bowl (which takes a few hours), I look at the horizon and see... another identical bowl.

    So, I hit the accelerator and do the exact same thing and reach the other end of the second bowl.

    What do I see just over the rim?

    You guessed it, another bowl! :eek:

    Do this about 7-8 more times and you've finally gotten the hell out of ND.

    Gimme SD any day of the week.
