It's certainly the right move, but if you're an Indy fan, I'd expect a couple fo rocky years to come. They are going to lose a lot more guys before kick off 2012. They are rebuilding and Luck looks like the right place to start.

Yeah, and the result needs to be judged over the next several years, not just what happens tomorrow.

Manning is a consummate professional! Good luck!!

Or Luck could be the next Ryan Leaf.

There were personal issues with Leaf even in college. Luck is totally different in that regard. He may not be a 12 year Pro Bowler, but I don't think he's going to be an epic fail due to being horrible at life in general as Leaf was.

Another thing to think about. If Irsay wanted to keep Manning, would Manning have stayed? He is a legendary QB, but he needs at least 1 more ring to be in the conversation as the best ever. He is not going to get it in Indy with the time he has left. That is why this is the best arrangement for everyone involved.

Good point there, Pixel. But I gotta think a payday of 28 mil would have kept him there, regardless of the ring or rebuilding situation. Deep down, he did want to remain a Colt.

I hope Manning chooses an AFC East team! I think it would be great for him, and my team, the Patriots, to enhance the great battles they've always had. The Dolphins would be a great fit, in my opinion, for him. They are not far from being a good playoff caliber team.

I'd love to see him go to the Redskins. Fun stuff watching the brothers play each other twice a year....

Don't hold your breathe, Paddy. He's said he'll consider everywhere except the NFC East because he doesn't want to compete with Eli for a playoff spot every year.

    I get that.

I think Miami, Arizona, or SF make the most sense when you figure in personnel, cap space, and the improvement they'd make with a top-QB. Maybe Seattle.

I would say Miami is the front runner so far. I think if Philbin had his way, he'd take Flynn from Green Bay since he is so familiar with him, but I think the Miami owner(s) are in a win now mode.

Anyone possibly getting signed to a big deal based on two games scares me.

That's why I figured Miami would be a good place for him. Philbin has been around the guy for three years now. I have to admit, I'm a Packers fan, so I'm a bit biased. I think he'll be a solid QB somewhere though.

Herd that he said he didn't want to go to Washington.

Yeah, reportedly he prefers AFC to NFC, but if it is NFC, it will absolutely not be the East.

He's probably not going to end up in the NFC North - with the exception of the Vikings, all the teams are set at quarterback for the long haul. The Vikings are in such disarray on the offensive side of the ball that I can't imagine that he'd even consider them. Oh, and they don't have the cap room.

One of my favorite comments from somewhere (and I feel bad for not remembering so that I can give credit where credit is due) is that the Ravens should go after him in a one-shot run for the Superbowl. What would be better for that town where if they can't have their Colts back, they can at least have THE Colt.

I know it won't happen, but it's a cool idea.

I agree no one in the NFC North makes sense. Supposedly the reason to keep out of the East is so as not to directly compete for a playoff spot with Eli every year.

That's what I've heard too, and based on what I know of Eli and Peyton, I find it completely plausible. While they'd love to play each other twice a year, I don't think they'd want to keep the other out of a playoff bearth. They both know that's where the legend is really made as far as quarterbacks go.

And that explains why I think Dan Marino is one of the biggest wastes of talent in league history.
