What would you choose for a meal if cost, availability, location, etc. were not a factor?

Off the top of my head, I might go with a gyro from a street vendor on Corfu (Greek Island) where the meat is cut right in front of you and the portion size per the cost blows away anything I have seen in the States since. Or maybe I am just missing out not living in a "big city" like Chicago, New York, etc.

That kind of question is like asking which of my kids I love the best.

    I can't answer it.

For some reason my brain farted after reading streak's , Strange's and your posts.
I thought you named your kids Mac & Cheese. :D

Hmm, I've thought about what I'd have if I ever went to New York City,
I would like to have a fresh whole lobster, melted butter, a few butterflied fried shrimp, a couple of fresh buttered yeast rolls, green beans cooked with pearl onions and a Porterhouse steak.

Around hear, though, my favorite thing to make is spaghetti.

One of my consistent favorites I can make fairly easily.

Good scallops, grilled over oak and hickory wood for an appetizer.
A nice salad with fresh spinach, good mixed lettuce, fresh tomatoes, some fresh mozzarella cheese, cucumber, crutons, and blue cheese dressing.
2" thick bone-in ribeye, grilled medium rare over the same fire as the scallops. Seasoned with sea salt, white pepper, garlic powder, and maybe a pinch of chipolte pepper powder.
A nice baked potato, cooked in the coals of the fire, for a side, along with some grilled asparagus.
Pair all of that with a nice Old Vine Zin or a big Cab.
A good single malt scotch for dessert. :D

going with something I can make easily enough

Tetrazzini made with Chicken or turkey and a nice mix of peppers, sauteed garlic, and mushrooms.
First learned how to make the health care version of this with everything missing including flavour, then made it at home properly.

    Anything pasta or pizza.

Actually, you can take just about anything and add mushrooms to it and I'll eat it. I'm a sucker for mushrooms.

Such is the problem of loving food.

I could list off a dozen meals I would consider as favorites--halibut stuffed with brie cheese and covered in hollandaise, salmon treated the same way, a medium-rare filet mignon, my father-in-law's prime rib, my mom's clam chowder, a Chicago-style hot dog, anything with Thai red curry, sushi with unagi, anything with Dungeness crab, anything with lobster, a good piece of smoked salmon, Giordano's pizza...etc., etc.

Same. I like variety, the meal I'd prefer tonight is something I haven't eaten in a while.

Prime rib that's so rare that it's almost mooing.
Chicago style hot dogs or pizza. (ya, I'm originally from there)
French onion soup from that place in Paris.
    Bratwurst in Switzerland.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, biscuits and gravy.

It's a good thing I only eat this a couple times a year.

Oh, man. This thread is making me hungry!

I really miss Cincinnati food. Gold Star chili, LaRosa's Pizza, Graeter's Ice Cream, Frisch's...I think at separate times this week, I would've named one of those places, or one of their signature items as my favorite.

Actually, Cincinnati-style chili spaghetti is definitely near the top of my list. 3-way, extra cheese (but no beef, thanks.) :)

Hmmm... I'd also put stir-fry dishes at the top. Red peppers, mushrooms, maybe some pineapple....yum, yum.

And Mexican. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos... With lot of cilantro, and lots of hot sauce.

    Bear Cub Goes down smooth.

    Appetizer: Pork fried dumplings
First course: Seafood medley of bake stuffed lobster, seared scallops, shrimp scampi, and fresh sushi - spicy mayonnaise encouraged on the sushi.
Second course: Prime rib, medium rare, served with warm aus jus.
Dessert: Sampler of cheesecakes, tiramisu, Sour Patch Kids, and soft serve Chocolate Moose Tracks ice cream, blended with Reese's cups, slightly warm chocolate fudge, and undercooked fudge brownie chunks.
Drive home: Slice of clams casino pizza from Pepe's, and a slice of sausage and tomato pizza from Joe's.

    Yep, that oughtta do it.

Fresh clam chowder, served where you can watch the ocean while you eat it. None of this 'Palouse Clam chowder' that has clams shipped in on a 7 hour truck ride, and goes heavy on the potatoes.

Ooh...that reminds me, the Crescent Moon Cafe in Hickory has an EXCELLENT barbecued tempeh sandwich. Definitely my favorite "going out to eat" meal right now.
