Ok, we've got a thread dedicated to addressing Obama's background and results
So I thought it would only be fair to have one specifically for Romney.

Please put in any good or bad, supporting or questioning.

I actually don't mind many of the actual policies and actions that Romney put into place in MA.
And I think that both he and Obama are very similar in many ways.
Effective, but detached...and not very good a marketing their actual actions, but sticking to talking points and rhetoric.

One of the mistakes I think he's making is pandering to the neo-cons.
And he would be much more comfortable with himself, if he'd just be himself.
But that's politics and he'd got to cater to his base.
IMHO, I think his party's people would actually respect him more and be more enthusiastic if he'd stood up for himself and be more sincere...they're not stupid.

Below is a fictional back & forth about Romney addressing his early days, incorporating actual phrases over the past few.
Personally, I really could care less about the actual event,
but I thought it was an interesting perspective of how Romney would handle the press and difficult issues.
Let me emphasize...it is not real.

My feeling is that Romney is a stuffed shirt.

His policies may be sound (or not) but it won't matter enough to elect him. He comes across as the awkward uncle who is trying so hard to be cool. This will not connect with the vast majority of voters.

The best thing about Romney is the fact that he is the best the Republican Party could come up with. Obama is a shoe-in for re-election.

For a while, I thought, ok, this was the guy who did a pretty decent job as governor of Massachusetts. Then I realized that he's the guy at the poker table who folds as soon as another player shows a face card. He was a Republican governor of one of the most liberal states in the US. Whatever right wing conservative cards he was holding, he knew he wasn't going to win the pot by playing them. Hi-octane arrogance but no real balls.

He is definitely not ready. I wouldn't vote for him to ref a little league softball game. But hell, GWB wasn't ready either and he lasted two terms without every really "getting it". Tells me "Is he ready to be President?" might be a bit of an irrelevant question.

I don't think he's ready. I think we're going to see sort of a repeat of what happened with McCain-Palin but hopefully without the Palin factor. It will be different in terms of style and content, but the general ineptness will reoccur.

It's fairly predictable. The two will settle into their respective ideological camps. Obama ranging from the centre to the centre-right, and Romney ranging just right of that and beyond (who knows how far).

Obama will talk about things in terms of what's been done, what has worked and what hasn't, and what still needs to be done. Romney will want to talk about the failure of everything that isn't in his platform and how his platform is the best thing to prevent a crisis in America and return it to prosperity despite a near-complete lack of precedent to indicate as much.

    Wow, that was awesome. :)

Being discussed heavily in the news today, and "denounced" by Romney.

Billionaire denounces potential Rev. Wright ad – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

By nature I am a skeptic and based on that I call this pure genius, some may say pure evil genius but either way it is genius. How better to get massive publicity than to cook up a scheme like this, leak it, get liberals in a tizzy, get everyone talking about it, and then denounce it! All while spending $0!!! I wonder if you folks know what Obama is going up against? As T.O. would say - Getcha popcorn ready.

This is going to be fun to watch.

    Great that Romney "denounced" it.

But laughable how he responded to a question about his playing the Wright card on Hannity's show last year.
ROMNEY: ...I’m not familiar precisely with exactly what I said, but I stand by what I said, whatever it was. I’ll go back and take a look at what was said there.

    Fun indeed.

Obama is going to be affected more by having to give his convention speech at the same time as the MTV Movie Awards than by this stuff...

The good thing about Romney is whatever side of an issue you're on he was or is currently in agreement with you.

One of the things that I find difficult is to find anything good to chew on about Romney.
Obama's got his whole presidency to refer to...and the media eats it up.

But as with Obama early on, before his win...Romney doesn't have much defined.
And unlike Obama, the media doesn't really find him fascinating...it's like they're saying, "meh"

And this is true, it is really hard to define him...His one big item, medical plan passage...same as Obamacare.
His governership...not much really put out there on it...no big perspectives.
His personal life and philosophy...again not much. (Obama had his books and "flowing sky" speeches)
His interaction style is more like Bush Sr., who wanted his privacy and detachment...but at least had a LONG resume to refer to.
Romney time at Bain is...vague at best, you can only look at the numbers and company actions...not his leadership.

Not much given by the people on the board...even the "dyed in the wool" conservatives.
That's why I put up the thread, on the hope others could dive in.

Well, here's something...at least for now.
Anybody else can get some meat, serve it up.

Evangelical and fundamentalist Christians should be eating this guy up. If his campaign can find a way to monopolize on the devout Mitt while downplaying the flakier aspects of Mormonism, I see him doing better than I'd originally thought he would in respect to getting traditional Christians to vote for him.

Romney's story is boring. White guy, born into a wealthy, politically connected family in the United States maintains family's wealthy, politically connected status. That's a narrative that's completely foreign to the United States political process ;).

His main claim seems to be that he created jobs, but if you look at how he "created" jobs, it becomes clear that he created jobs by taking other people's money and investing it in other people's hard work while paying himself handsomely for the trouble. Only a politician could seriously tout that as job creation. For Romney, creating jobs was an occasional, completely tangential side effect of making a shit-ton of money.

Well, he seems ready to take some immediate steps on "day one" as president:

    1. Immediately approve the Keystone Pipeline (a.k.a. "creating thousands of jobs that Obama blocked")
    2. Introduce tax cuts and reforms (a.k.a. "rewarding job creators, not punishing them")
    3. Issue order to begin replacing "Obamacare" (a.k.a. "common sense health care reform")
Perhaps he is ready, as he is out of the gates with his job-creating Obamacare-killing platform. Perhaps he's just picking the low-hanging fruit.

Actually, he shouldn't even really claim job creation, because if anything, that was in the context of his time as a businessman.
But if we look at his time as a politician, which is what we are voting on here,
while governor of Mass. the state's employment rating went from 27th in the nation, to 37th, in relative comparison to all states at the time.

    From the National Journal...
Romney's Massachusetts Job Record Not as Great as He Wants You to Think

    ---------------------------------------------------------

Now, what he should be talking about...which the President DOES have much control over, is foreign policy.
As Commander In Chief, negotiator of treaties, etc...all constitutionally mandated...he would be making the big calls.

And yet, I haven't heard much from him about this.
Even if this is an Obama strength...if you want to be President, then you should at least have an opinion of this.
(this is what submarined Palin, her lack of knowledge on the world)

    1. Pollute more, and give more money to conservative oil companies/executives.
    2. Reward rich people for making the right investment choices. Having a larger number in their bank account won't change much.
    3. Only workers should get health care, and they should cover the costs.

As for the Mormon thing, Obama can't touch it, but the crazy parts of it will come out.
