Take your best bet with what will happen with ammo prices

Well since there's pretty much nothing been going on in TFP weaponry I thought I would spice it up with a crappy thread ! Here we goooooo!

So back around last November when we were starting to "pull out of iraq" I noticed rifle ammo started coming down in price quite a bit. Some good deals I got in on were cases of Federal 5.56 55grain stuff at primary arms and brownell's and it was only 27-28 cents a round shipped. I think those retailers were figuring that with the end of one theater of war that perhaps demand for ammo would come down and they wanted to clear out a bunch of inventory. So I picked up a "few" cases . :D

But now it seems like rifle ammo has gone back up. It's hard to find brass .223 for less than 33 cents a round shipped, and those are usually for foreign brands (aguilla, pmc). Not that there's anything wrong with foreign brands though.

I think the whole "Obama's gonna take my gunz and ammo" fear might play out again with people hoarding it and retailers jacking up the price tremendously.

I have more than enough to keep training but I thought I would just throw the topic out there.

Swear to Allah, gun owners are some of the full-retardest, self-rapingest morons on the planet. Like no other hobby, really.

Ammo, like gas, doesn't really come down, it just hits a reasonable level instead of selling at the usual over-inflated price.

The actually-feel-it difference between 33 cents ($660) and 47 cents ($940) a round over 2000 rounds is pretty painful.

    ...

I'm a bad grasshopper, myself. When all the ants were stockpiling ammo for Armageddon, I was out shooting mine off.

I'm going to need to buy several cases in the near future and it's going to be hard on the wallet. PMC is good stuff.

Don't know why people are so obsessed with Federal's 5.56. Half the shooting classes I've been to it's shit the bed.

Maybe ChrisJericho should hook a brother up and send a PM when he finds brass 5.56 for 27 fucking cents a shot.

    ...

You can compare the current leader of the free world to any number of evil dictators, he hasn't done dick against guns.

Guess I should welcome the next gun buy supercraze... can use it to get rid of some Freedom Support Blasters (AKs, M1As).

Nothing quite like selling an AK you paid $300 for $650 or making $2k on a M1A because Bubba calls it a "sniper rifle."

I don't believe ammunition will drop much until the military really, truly begins to downsize and we once again begin to run surplusses. I think this will coincide roughly with our withdrawal from major combat operations.

When a unit is back stateside and is 'training' they are rarely able to actually shoot much. However, when they are deployed they are able to shoot as much as they want, in addition to actual mission expenditures. Also you have pre mission trainups which require a large quantity of ammunition per soldier as well, which would also no longer be needed. When the army starts to cut soldiers and tighten it's belt, the first thing they will do is short soldiers the ammunition they need to train... Combined these things will leave Lake City with huge overruns and a massive number of machines sitting idle, unless they start to sell direct to the civilian population at steep discounts....

Here's proof that the deal actually happened:

    FEDERAL 5.56 NATO M193 RIFLE AMMO - 1000rds for $265 shipped - Slickdeals.net
I found another case of it I didn't know I bought in my garage this weekend.

If you want to be notified of ammo deals you'll need to create a free account on that site and then start making 'deal alerts' for stuff like guns, ammo, cereal, richard simmons videos etc. Then whenever someone on the site posts a deal matching any of those terms you get a notification. Then you don't have to rely on me to help you like a puppet dictator planted by the CIA. :D

My wigga. Not like I'm not hitting up sites like Ammo Engine whenever I actually have the disposable income to buy said product. Some of us white people are poor, y'know. Everybody knows that when you buy ammo, you should buy in quantities of 10k rounds if you want to be taken seriously.

Obligatory man-jabs aside, the fact that you mentioned Richard Simmons in this thread makes me even more confident that you're the rare breed of gun owner that isn't a douche. I implore you to spread this type of attitude amongst your white collar peers so they don't get sucked in by Magpul videos and start wearing FDE jackets to work. All those yuppies with all that money... they'll turn out like our douchey buddies from EmmForeSee.

Should've picked up more 7.62x51 DAG battle packs when they were only $80 ($8 per box) from Aimsurplus.

Now the cheapest .308 range ammo I can find is $11.99 shipped.

Hah, while moving I found an old sealed "emergency battlepack" of 7.62x51mm sitting in the back of the man cave. I think I paid $5-6 a box for it back in the day. I bought it to use in my M1A. I guess it says a lot about my preferences that I've put less than 300 rounds out of that battle rifle.

    ...

All this talk of ammo prices makes me wanna look into those "Tactical .22" classes where I can enjoy all the AR manipulations and angry men yelling at me in the hot sun without blasting $600 in ammo into a berm behind a bunch of those targets with the Vertically Striped B&W Pistol Terrorist.

Speaking of .22, remember when you could buy a thousand rounds for $5 instead of $20 for 500 rounds of Aguila at Wal Mart?

If that yugo brass 7.62x39 corrosive comes back in stock and I can get it for 19 cents a round shipped I am probably going to get an AK. Widener's still has some but it comes out to 25 cents a round shipped for me.
