One thing that annoys me is people constantly taking pictures with their cellphones. Or cameras, for that matter.
I don't like to have my picture taken just because you can. I don't mind group pictures, like family, church, school, class reunion, etc. I don't mind sitting for a photographer either.
But for some reason I just hate constant picture taking. Please leave me out.
I can't get this through to my guy Sig. Now he pretends to be on the phone, and takes pictures. Of me. I hate it.
Anyone else camera shy, and what do you do when some starts shoot without asking first?

I'm almost always never in the picture. I'm the picture taker, whether its on my phone or with one of my cameras. Sorry, but that's what we do.

I generally don't like my picture taken, but I acknowledge how photos are important to people.

I don't consider myself photogenic. I don't particularly like my smile. I prefer not to smile in photos, but then people complain when I don't.

I don't like having my picture taken.

But I realize that, when it comes to it, thirty years from now I'm going to want to look back and myself and think "goddamn, I worked it when I was younger" no matter how I feel about how I look in pictures now.

And that's the attitude that fuels Tilted Exhibition.

Not a fan but doesn't really bother me either. Least not since that federal warrant has been dropped.

In the military, esp. boot camp, they beat the crap out of you for smiling in an official photo. Even after 25-30 years it's a hard habit to break. People are always mentioning I must not have been having fun "that day." No, I just tend not to smile for the camera.

I don't mind the occasional session with a pro--we have one whom we love and trust. But I don't want to see a picture of myself--at any age--any more than I want to hear a recording of my own voice. It's something I'm working on, though.

    Whaaaaa? You are totally photogenic.

I don't care about having my picture taken. I do dislike being caught off-guard with it, though.

I don't mind them, I wouldn't think so since I did modeling when I was younger.

But I also don't go out of my way to take them.
I barely have any of me and my wife.
    It's just not our thing.

It's probably no huge surprise that I love taking pictures and being in pictures. Pictures really are worth a million words... digital documentation of various events is priceless. Am I photogenic? Fuck no. I know I'm a dorky white guy with a face only my mother can love. But the point is to remember that I was somewhere and I was making stupid faces. Take this crappy outta focus graduation Jumbo-Tron picture, for example:

Fake-surprised "Hey, Guy!" double finger point. Rumor has it that it's the preferred pose of heroes everywhere.

Those are the silly moments I wanna remember forever. And that's how I wanna be remembered by others.

    ...

I dig the sentiment but, c'mon, man... who are we kidding? Nobody posts on TEx because the community is waaay too small and we're all sensitive elite white professionals concerned with tainting our image. When I wanna post pictures of the flesh-on-flesh slapfest that is my old lady getting it... I have to cut heads off, cover up half a dozen tattoos and use IMGUR to put it up on Reddit. Not that I have a whole lot of solutions to this problem...

That and the world is 100% more forgiving of women that post their bits than of men. When you do it as a man you're just a despicable pervert.

Never liked having my picture taken. Totally never. Though in recent months, things seem to have been changing.

I DO reckon your guy Sig oughta respect your preference. IMO not a good sign when a s.o places their desires above a reasonable 'opt out' request.
Mind you, I would say that. I'm comfortable to not be in photos and to politely resist any pressure to 'force me'. Aside from CCTV and security cams, whose protective purpose I understand, I believe it's a sacred right not to have to be splattered in peoples photo albums or .... Bletch ..... Facebook 'tagging'. CheeseArse! The time I have wasted having to respond to 'you been tagged' emails - searching for who's done what and then UNtagging.

    Xerxes Bulking.

I want to sing "You are beautiful in every single way" while simultaneously slapping my gf across the face every time she cringes when I come at her with a camera as if I am attacking her with a vat of acid.

I take pictures and get mine taken. I am a shameless attention whore.

Look at me, bitchez. LOOK AT ME!

I believe it confuses the my soul. I do fear the lens. Eschew it at all costs. [* -]

Contradiction: I do consider myself a hobbyshop fotog.
So, I inflict the (some times painful) attention unto others that I so awkwardly try to circumvent from my own being.
Thankfully, at this stage in my life, I've grown to become so reticent at approaching the ladies, it hurts my soul all the same; therefore, most of my recent snaps have been of grass, (how I wish I'd regain the cajones to capture more of the lassies) some wild hares, and, now that I remind myself, I keep forgetting to shoot the moon.

Achieving a semblance of balance through the medium is difficult.
Short of gluing the camera to my hands and face, I'd much rather be the memory-maker.

Hate, hate, hate having me picture took. I try to be the photographer and if someone demurs, I don't cajole them and don't distribute 'bad' shots of them.
As usual, it's my mother's fault <sarcasm>. Rumour has it I was a baby model (2 on here so far!) and later I realized it wasn't fun for me, just a validation for her that she could produce a cute kid. I hate to smile for the camera, too. I'd rather be 'caught' in a natural moment, laughing. And yeah, of course posterity, family history whatever you call it--yep, it's important so I consent but it often feels forced and phoney not to mention many ppl have not clue one about how to take a flattering shot of someone.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

    I really don't like it.
What bothers me the most is people who worry more about getting a zillion photos of an event, rather than just being in the moment and enjoying what they are experiencing.
Seems to happen at my kids birthday parties.
The kids are trying to enjoy it while being chased by the hoard of photogs more worried about the next shot than they are the enjoyment of the children.

Learning to take pictures is changing my attitude about having my own picture taken. What I'm learning is that the idea of being photogenic is kind of fluid -- the most attractive people in the world sometimes take bad pictures, and the least attractive people can take good ones. The key seems to be in the photographer. It's too bad that there are so many people running around with hundreds of dollars of equipment and no clue how to use it, calling themselves photographers. I'd be more bitter towards these people if I weren't one of them.

For some reason, the camera adds about 50 pounds to me. It makes me look fat.

    (ouch)

I don't like having my picture taken. If someone snaps a pic, I usually make faces. Not duck faces though. I have higher standards than that.

This is my main issue. I don't believe you can create memories this way.

After losing about 30 lbs. 5 years ago I cringe at my old photos, and for whatever reason, I'm sure I'll look back on photos of myself now and find some fault. Maybe at some point I'll be enlightened enough to just accept how I look. It's self-centered in a way, as if to say "all these people who say I look fine don't know shit!"
