So recently I had some time on my hands and decided to spraypaint my daisy pump bb gun. I went out and bought some krylon ultra flat paint and the fun began !

Sweet Child of Mine, we need to teach you how to crop and resize pictures. Not all of us have a T-3 line, bro.

(is running dial-up, can't even get porn to work)

    ...

(opens pictures in separate window, waits 138 years)

Gnarly shading job. I really like it. Needs a little more brown to help break up the "flat green stick" look, but it's good. Good color match, not too busy.

Protip: Use texturized spraypaint (Krylon Make It Stone) beneath the camo colors to get rid of that "slab of gun" problem you get from using normal spraypaint on a smooth, flat surface. It works pretty well from my limited experience slathering it on guns and hard gear like helmets and holsters.

    ...

Embarrassment time: My first camo spray paint project, a Springfield Armory M1A.

I used Plastikote Stone Touch and Krylon flat tan and olive drab from Wally World.

This pattern works really well in "Fort Bragg back yard," don'tcha think? I should attach some pine cones to it, though.

My attempt at solid green with subtle green stripes was ultra sloppy and should have been planned instead of sprayed on all slapdash after my nightly post-divorce Old No. 7 binge (Aaah, 2007). If I was smart, I would have used window screen or some other mesh for the subtle stripes. As I mentioned earlier, the rough-stuff-in-a-can really helps get rid of the slab sides that attract attention in any environment, regardless of color.

Wow you sprayed an m1a? I sort of did this just to see how it would turn out, I'm not sure I would ever do it to one of my real guns unless I were to buy some Century Arms POS in the future.

Yeah uh, I really really wanted to avoid the ghetto free hand stripe style. The stencils took an assload of time to cut out, but i think they were worth it.

I actually bought a can of brown too. I just can't make up my mind as to whether I want to lightly spray it from a distance in some areas to use as shade, or use more stencils. I would probably lean towards more stencils.

Dude, it's only a rifle. A $800-900 dollar Springfield Armory M1A base model at that. It's not a Ferrari. I'm not married to it. It's not a tattoo. Paint wears off. It is easily removed with some solvents in an auto shop parts cleaner. Stop being such a pussy. I understand though, most guys start out owning guns with that mentality: "...but The Precious!" Later quite a few dudes realize the obvious: It's just a hunk of metal and plastic. You're not using it right if it isn't getting dirty and scratched. A rifle is supposed to shoot reliably and accurately. The shitty paint job doesn't change that at all.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's a lousy freehand job. But if you screw in the scope mount and hang some rags on the optic, it works pretty damn well.

That's what Santa always used to tell me when I sat on his lap :(

I don't mind getting the rifle scratched up or dinged. If it's natural wear from being out in the forest it's fine with me. Me spray painting it though seems somewhat artificial, sort of like kids adding fart cans to their hondas. When I was in college one of my roomates had a really shitty toyota that made the fart can noise naturally cuz the car was falling apart. It was a lot cooler than the hondas.

...but owning a military-grade assault weapon clone with foliage green furniture is okay?

I don't get your logic here. Apparently you should just stick to BB guns, civilian guy.

/realizes he's acting like his name is Francis, decides to lighten up

    ...

I'm not a total slob, see... back when I was a worse gearqueer than KirStang, I paid $250 to get an entire $1500 rifle professionally covered in Cerakote... in horrid green. Finish worked out great even if the rifle itself turned out to be halflifeware with a horrible charging handle design.

Hey now. Why don't we focus on the topic at hand (Horrible Paintjobs) instead of getting sidetracked by how awesome I am?

Hey, I'm here for you. And my point was that it's cool to do whatever you want to your guns and gear because only you have to live with it (and the related mockery). And I'm only giving you a hard time because you're one of the rare Internet gun guys into shooting that doesn't have a waistline twice his inseam and an ego to match. Super important but like chivalry, punk rock and the Macho Man Randy Savage... it's pretty much dead.

Just to piss you off I'm going to freestyle spray paint my $2500 BCM when I get home. And then post pictures of it right here.

Don't be jealous of my awesome shotgun. And FWIW, installing parts is a lot less labor intensive than laying down tarp, purchasing proper paint, prepping the surface, priming, and painting. But hey, it's whatever right?

And, working as a criminal defense attorney is, indeed, a full time job.

    Jericho-

Just noticed this was 3 months old, but this is still relevant.

Don't waste your time cutting out patterns to imitate natural foliage when you're surrounded by it. Ivy, Maple, Oak and Dandelion leaves all work great. Yeah, yeah, I know, put your spray paint were your mouth is, right. Not gonna happen, not with my firearms or pellet guns. But, if I can find a pic of my friends Bronco, I'll post it. He used a handful of Oak, Maple and Alder leaves. The effect was so good, he ended up painting a luminous stripe around the truck, so he could find it when he's hunting. Really, he lost his truck the first time out for several hours. The stripe can't be seen by the naked eye, but lights up like the sun when hit with a black light (UV), that he carries to track.

If you don't want to paint a nice weapon, Brownell's and most retailers sell a stretch wrap camouflage tape that just wraps around and sticks until you remove it, mostly.
