Politics Academic freedom, free speech, freedom of the press under attack at U of Mizzou

    This is getting quite a bit of coverage around here, perhaps because Missouri is right next door. The school president resigned because of what started as feces smeared on a mirror in the shape of a swastika. And some students therefore felt "unsafe." Apparently they never studied Germany in the 'thirties or Mississippi in the 'sixties or they would know the real meaning of unsafe. And a prof forced to resign for not knuckling under to bullies. And they don't want the press at their rallies.

    Freedom of expression and freedom of the press stops wherever activists say it does.

    This is one issue that I thought Obama would have been able to work on and improve much more than has happened.

    I don't know all of the details, but I don't blame them for wanting to control access to the press. There is a conservative press that is willing to edit, spin, and use anything someone in the group says. But they also use that narrative of them blocking access to a photographer to overshadow the real issue that they are trying to solve. It is kind of like the same playbook the press used for the Black Lives Matter and Occupy movements.
