New U.S. COVID-19 cases and deaths tick higher, while CDC’s ‘real world’ study shows Pfizer, Moderna vaccines reduce infection risk by 91%

Getting better...but not, at the same time.
What I'm worried about is another surge after the holidays and everyone playing in the Summer in crowds.

    Followup...
'Lockdown' states like California did better economically than 'looser' states like Florida, new COVID data shows

    Interesting statistics...
Covid tactics worked for the economy too. At least it's an argument vs. those that use the economy as a rationale.

The big question is what is going to happen next Mid-November through January. Will the virus be gone, or will there be enough unvaccinated people indoors with all restrictions lifted that it will cause another big spike.

The fact that many people have already had it might help prevent the worse outcome though.

A silent decimation: South America’s losing battle against Covid — The Guardian

Meanwhile, South America is being pounded
    Worse than India was.

I have a feeling a variant will come through the US and Europe…opening up.
People acting like high schoolers on summer break.
    (I’m guilty of it too…)

I do think the people who took the antivax will be fine
But those who choose not to, they’re going to be impacted

    Statistically, they’re already showing this.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

People who have not been vaccinated are getting sick and dying at about the same rate now as they were last year.
The overall numbers are down tremendously because of vaccinations but if you aren't vaccinated things haven't gotten any better, and with the delta variant spreading they are probably going to get worse.

It is 'winter' in South America right now, and this virus does like to spike up when people are indoors and the temperature drops. I hope that the US/Canada/Europe/Asia has enough people vaccinated by November to prevent a big spike in the unvaccinated with the eliminated restrictions. I don't know what will happen if the US starts seeing a large amount of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Good luck trying to limit the lockdown to only unvaccinated people.

Even mild COVID in young people often leads to long-term symptoms, study finds

I still think, the virus acts like a stress test.
Hitting anything that it can in the body.

If you have a weak point, it will work it.
And keep doing so, until your body is capable of dealing with it.

Same principle we use in tech.
The only thing age helps with, is your body isn’t worn or damaged yet, accumulations of time, use and circumstance.

    Youth is not a panacea.
    No one is invulnerable.

Summers Says Preparing for Pandemics Like Buying Amazon Early

    YES! This a no brainer.
The $$$ savings, much less the lives saved, is profound.

Might as well be sacrificing millions of people on ancient Aztec high alters and burning trillions of bills in bonfires below, otherwise.

Let's prepare as a modern civilized society should.

On a very real near future note...
Seoul heads for lockdown as infections spiral in South Korea

If South Korea is going thru this again, it means the US is fucked.

Because they've been diligent and on top of it since the beginning...still wear masks more, higher testing, etc.
The US, we're chaos...indulgent, a portion of the population disdainful...if not fully trying to repress and encourage no belief. (even when their locals are dying or hospitalized)

Well, the is a global Darwin Award test.
You either deal or you die (or get REALLY sick even more)
This is how nature whittles away population. (not by intend, just by circumstance...we're living petri dishes for the virus)

And if you think God will protect you...who do you think created the virus? (lab or no lab)
And if you don't believe, then your protection is simple diligence. (same as those that do)

Get ready for an extended ride, put on your seatbelts. (Or just get the damn shots)

After vaccination burnout, Delta variant spurs countries to speed up shots — Reuters

Basically, as far as vaccinations go, countries need to, “use it or lose it”.
Meaning lose to the Virus, if they don’t vax like mad.

Lose people, $$$, power, control, etc and so on.

Maybe, like seat belts, they should make laws,
    Like, “stick it or ticket”

Because there will be always be those idiots who refuse without some penalty.

I think Mother Nature has proven her point.
Again and again, despite denial, neglect or attempts at “getting out of it” by ALL countries.
You’re ONLY avoiding this by getting most to vax.

Just like everyone had to adopt seatbelt laws or suffer the consequences overall and time.

    Nature doesn’t suffer fools.
Neither does world power and influence for long.
    Do it or lose it.

The WHO's Chief Says It Was Premature To Rule Out A Lab Leak As The Pandemic's Origin — NPR

They called some paranoid (including me)
But even WHO is soft toeing it back, saying that it “could” originate from a lab.

NOT created by humans or even manipulated
But simply tested there…and it somehow got out.
Not likely intended, but likely accidental.
Mistake or simply “life found a way”, leak, seep, flow, etc…unknowingly to the lab until too late.

    The problem here…
    1. China is NOT being transparent, seems to be hiding something
    2. Trump weaponized the blame game vs China to rouse and distract. (even IF true, he exaggerated it for propaganda)
    3. Many scientists presumed, then dug their heels in.
Pride and ego doesn’t help them

    So as usual…a clusterfuck.
Which got more killed or harmed

This is why we can’t have nice things…

    Stupid is as stupid does.

You can’t deal with them, they’ve made up their minds.
Unfortunately, you just have to treat them as best as anyone that’s gunning for a Darwin Award.

    The rudeness is inexcusable though.
One has to have some class, in interactions with first responders and healthcare providers.

Breakthrough cases are extremely rare. Here’s what it’s like to be one of them.

    FYI
In case you're worried "what if"
Still. not as bad as having no shot. Yes, you're very sick...BUT unlikely hospitalization and no death.

The place I recently left has had a positive test result and they are back to quarantine status. Don't know if it was a non-vaccinated individual or the Delta variant but, there they are. They had an employee dinner Thursday and the positive test was on Saturday. I left Wednesday, so, either I dodged a bullet or, my good bye hugs were a super spreader event.

Wife was vaccinated in February. I was vaccinated end of April. Pfizer. Just got back from vacation in Charleston and Myrtle beach. Wife is feeling poorly. Had a rapid test this morning. Covid. Fucking shit. Waiting to hear about updated work policy. Stepson has to take a leave of absence from home depot. Have to worry about my twin 11 year old daughters. Chloe was congested with us the other day. Assumed allergies, but now I don't know.

Yeah, it's NEVER going to go away. At least with the vaccinations you are less likely to get deathly sick or hospitalized.
