WELL MY WORK LAPTOP FINALLY TOOK A SHIT. IT IS A DELL LATITUDE E6430 ATG. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT ONE.

THIS PARTICULAR ONE I ONLY USE FOR WORK. IT HOLDS DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE.

NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR A NEW ONE. I DONT NEED A HIGH DOLLAR LAPTOP. DOES NOT HAVE TO BE TOUCH SCREEN OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. 14 OR 15 INCH SCREEN IS SUFFICENT, I WANT MEMORY BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE I USE IS ALWAYS GROWING. I WANT A SSHD.

I LOVE A DELL. IVE ALWAYS HAD GREAT LUCK WITH THEM. I DO NOT WANT AN APPLE PRODUCT. IM JUST NOT AN APPLE PERSON.

    A REFURBISHED ONE IS OK

Do you have a budget in mind?

If you are comfortable with Dells, I'd check out their laptop deals: Laptop Deals | Dell USA

There are cheaper off-brand options, for sure. But I too have always had great support from stuff bought from Dell. I've solely used their laptops for over 20 years and desktops for 6+ (last two have been Alienware through Dell) and have nothing but great things to say.

There are options on that link that could probably work for as little as $500. Not sure what you feel is a lot of memory, but if this is mainly for work software, and not saving other files or media, even a 256GB or 512GB might be enough. 1TB can be had for under $1k.

Again, you can find something cheaper out there, but those Dell options will likely fit the bill.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

Does your workplace provide computers for any of your colleagues, or are there any for common use?
Or does everyone have to supply their own?
If it's essential for your work maybe they could make it part of your compensation package?

    ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS.....

YES THE COMPANY SUPPLIES SOME. THEIR IS LIKE 1 FOR 3 OR 4 TECHS. BUT PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT AND THEY BREAK SHIT AND DONT TAKE CARE OF IT, AND DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT IT.

IT MAKES ME MONEY, I DONT LIKE PEOPLE USING MY STUFF CAUSE THEY DONT CARE ABOUT IT. SO ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT MY OWN LICENSE SO IF I LEAVE OR WHATEVER IT AND THE LAPTOP AND THE VCM (VEHICLE COMMUNICATION MODULE) GO WITH ME. WHEN I NEED TO USE IT I DONT WANT TO WAIT ON SOMEONE ELSE TO FINISH WATEVER THEY ARE DOING TO USE IT. ITS JUST ANOTHER TOOL IF THAT MAKES SINCE.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN LAPTOP AND THE COMPANY WILL SUPPLY THEM WITH THE LICENSE WHILE THEY ARE EMPLOYED HERE. BUT I LIKE TO HAVE MY OWN STUFF.

Caps Ralphie...you're shouting :) Oww my ears. ;)

I got a wonderful LG from CostCo. (nice deals here, no in-person support though)
Great price and it's very thing and light even with a 17 inch screen. $1400

I had gotten a bridging laptop from HP from BestBuy for $300, but it was dog-slow...a true disappointment. IMHO. too small.
Useful for a brief and minor substitute. But I need something more robust.

Plus I travel with it...so I wanted the new one to be very light, but still have a large screen.

Most laptops are very modular and pre-made with no big updates in mind, these days.
So just get it from a good vendor at at a good store. (one that will support you well)
Dell, Toshiba, LG, HP, Asus are all decent vendors.

Most people don't need powerful systems, that techs and gamers want.
Mostly something that can do the Web and Office.

Depends on what you're doing with it, how are you using it???
    Any insight for us?

The all caps is cause my work software uses it and its just habit.

i just use it for work for diagnostic software. the 2 programs are always growing so i want plenty of memory. nothing major nothing powerful. i would like one that will be compatable with windows 11 when it comes out.
