Home phone...land line

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by DAKA, Jun 11, 2019.

DAKA DOING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

We are keeping our "land line" (home phone) as a service to Robo, Begging, Charity etc callers.
If we give it up as so many have done, it would make the callers start to call cell phones.
Don't thank us for thus charitable service...

I keep mine for multiple reasons

    Trash line
    Ref for businesses
Search for when I misplace my cell
    Ref for phone searches
Contact for clearances (they prefer lan line, shows established and stability...govt )

Basically anything I don’t want to be bothered with or it’s a irrelevant ref

I get enough calls still from spontaneous bots and recruiters, who still have it after years of gig hunts.

Thank god, Congress made it possible to restrict bots and other auto calling
(No, I don’t want to talk about my insurance or college loan )

I would love to have a traditional land line. A hard wire that ties us in with local emergency services means that 911 can respond faster.
Also, it means that the phone might work in a disaster situation when cell phones and internet connections are down.

Unfortunately what is available to our apartment complex is voip.

We only have cell phones and computers with high speed internet for communication with the outside world.

You actually may want to consider it for your new role and area.
It may assist, like me, in background clearances and other bureaucracy (you never know how archaic some entities are...)

We still have ours, two of them in fact. One is for the no longer relevant fax line, the other for family emergency calls and home protection system.

Edit: Oh, and for my wife's sweepstaking hobby. Since land lines are in the minority these days, it makes it easier to win call in contests.

I live in the mountains, cellphones don't work here. I can and do connect my cell phone into our wi-fi; but the voice quality is awful sometimes.

We still have a landline and probably always will. Not enough people live here to make it worth installing a cell tower.

I think we have one, it comes free with our data connection. That said, we don't have a phone to plug into our router.

I haven't had a "home" phone in many years.

We keep one due to the cheaper service bundle that covers home use data (unlimited and fast), land line and tv package (Crave-HBO/Netflix). In our case it costs less than home data and tv package without a land line. Every few weeks we check for messages, they tend to left by robots.

I still have one but only because my 10 y/o son doesn't have a cell phone and is sometimes home alone. It's also easier to avoid calls from my boss when he only has my home phone.

That being said, I get my share of spam phone calls on my cell phone as well.

We still have one. I have no idea why because it's a $ drain that isn't part of a package "deal."
