I'm finding myself killing free time lately listening to podcasts rather than reading or listening to music.

I have a handful of regulars.

Currently, I'm listening to Go Fork Yourself - Andrew Zimmern's weekly podcast. He is interview chef Tim Love about the upcoming Austin Wine and Food Festival that Love will be hosting.

Alton Brown's is another favorite with weekly interviews of chefs and other foodies.

Several political casts - Ken Rudin's Political Junkie and Slate Political Gabfest, along with cultural/social casts - Fresh Air and Slate's Culture Gabfest.

Several history casts - Stuffed You Missed in History Class, Lectures in History and The Thomas Jefferson Hour (Thomas Jefferson is interviewed on a different subject each week).

And finally Great Detectives of Old Time Radio (Nero Wolfe) and, for no particular reason, Modern Manner Guy's Quick and Dirty Tips For a More Polite Life.

Do you listen? Have favorites to share?

Mostly I listen to some of my favorite NPR shows not carried by my local public radio, the regular NPR shows I often miss, and How to Do Everything:

NPR: How To Do Everything Podcast : NPR Podcasts
Snap Judgment Podcast | Snap Judgment
Podcasts and Feeds | The Splendid Table
NPR: Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! Podcast : NPR Podcasts
    Science Friday

    And StarTalk Radio

StarTalk Radio Show by Neil deGrasse Tyson | Science, pop culture & comedy collide on StarTalk w/ astrophysicist & Hayden Planetarium director Neil deGrasse Tyson, comic co-hosts, celebrities & scientists.

I'll have to get on listening to this. I listened to Ken Rudin's last day on Talk of the Nation and totally cried, as I listened every Wednesday for years.

Yes, I listen to a few

    Anything Ghost ("real" ghost stories)
The Bigfoot Show ("real" Bigfoot stories and gossiping about people in "the field")
Mysterious Universe (just general esoteric shit)
Rex Factor (two dudes who rate every king of England)
In Our Time (dont know if you'd count this, as its also a Radio 4 show, but its just a guy interviewing 3 experts about a different subject each show)
A Podcast to the Curious (two guys talking about MR James stories)
Jim Harold's Campfire (it's not as good as Anything Ghost, but basically this really nice guy who interviews random people with ghost stories)
Righteous Indignation (Three skeptical dudes talking about esoteric shit)
Monstertalk (same as above... used to be quite good, but now two of the hosts are suing each other: one for libel and one for sexual harassment I think.)

Ok I can't wait to get home and nerd out on some podcasts.

The only one I really got into was Jenna Elfman's Kicking and Screaming with her husband Bodhi Elfman. It was kinda random and I don't think (?) they do it anymore

Freakonomics Radio and MotleyFoolMoney are my two current favorites.

Weekend Confirmed is no longer airing new episodes but for gaming I enjoyed it.
For motorcyclists - Side Stand Up - also discontinued, but there are hundreds of old shows loaded with great info. The production quality was poor but the content excellent.

A new one -- Risk: True Tales, Boldy Told celebrates storytelling with people coming on to the show to tell a story about an event in their life that they would normally never share in public.

I'll have to try try that one.

Another new one that sounds intriguing but I havent had time yet is Nate Cordrry and Reading Aloud on the new Wolfpop Network.

My list is getting too long to follow them all regularly, but a new favorite for non serious foodies is Spilled Milk. A light and funny discussion with Molly Wizenberg and Matthew Amster-Burton tasting and discussing a different food item each each. This week is green beans.

Hardcore history (3-5 hours, I'm assuming the most thorough history podcast, almost more like an audiobook)
Serial (1 hour, whodunnit story that sucks you in)
Cracked podcast (1-2 hours, interesting pop culture topics based on cracked.com)
