The comments about Impeachment II are spread out over at least two threads.

    57 (50 Dems, 7 Repubs) quilty.
    43 (0 Dems, 43 Repubs) not guilty.

This travesty, this joke of "impartial" constitutional responsibility, will hurt a small number of Republican Senators in the short term. It will damage the Republican party in some ways, perhaps deeply, perhaps not.

One thing is clear: Former 45th POTUS Donald John Trump got away with inciting an attack on the Capitol Building and Congress. Thankfully he did not achieve his ultimate goal of changing the 2020 election results and remaining president. He will now view being acquitted as the equivalent of having done nothing wrong, perhaps even never having been charged (in the mind of Donald Trump), much the same way he views settling lawsuits as victories.

This was anticipated and predicted, and calling the result disappointing is putting it mildly. Totally disgusting is a better description.

Since our politicians can't show the integrity and the courage to do the right thing, let us hope the criminal courts and the civil courts will enforce some justice on Donald John Trump.

Schumer leaves door open to 14th Amendment measure to bar Trump from office — Fox News

This is going to be an interesting twist
I wonder if they can make it stick

McConnell and more GOP leaders might actually allow it.
    And I don’t know if it’s a straight House/Senate vote
Or would it be a Supreme Court thing?

Probably a mixture of all the above
And we’ve never use it before, so there would be a debate

Folks, we’re in unprecedented times, using things never used before

Representative Joe Neguse appeared on CBS Face The Nation this morning.

IMO he did very good job as one of the House impeachment managers.

But this morning Neguse wasn't upset, he seemed relieved, even somewhat cheerful. TBF he might be one of those politicians who has spent decades forcing himself to always smile under any circumstance.

I wanted to see anger and venom, not smiles and a sense of relief.

Well, they knew already what they were in for.
Frankly, I think they did it for 2 reasons

    1. Get it on record...for alternatives and leverage.
    2. See how the opposition reacted

Now they can go after those who showed their hands and tells.

Make you a bet politicians like Cruz and Graham will be in trouble real soon. (those who colluded with Ts lawyers)

And they will be finding out more.

    Now that it’s on record.
They can trigger National terrorist act, other national security acts and get various intelligence agencies involved.

There’s a reason McConnell declared aloud after the acquittal...he’s trying to cover his ass. Decoy, delay, distract.

    They’re fucked. Why?
    They “declared war”
    Basically against the US.

The Dems are going after them...
With DOD, DHS, NSA, CIA, etc...

They’ve threatened democracy and the constitution.

    Watch.
    Get the popcorn out.

    Who wants to place bets???

Rudy Giuliani: Federal agents execute search warrants on Manhattan home and office - CNNPolitics

I'm not sure where this belongs, but since it's probe related...

The feds raided Counselori Giuliani's office and home, and confiscated documents and electronic devices.

My understanding is strong evidence was needed just to obtain the search warrant(s), which should mean there is a solid case against him, which ties into a case against Trump.

Let's hope Counselori kept detailed records. Incriminating detailed records.

Yeah, no surprise. Barr only turned against* Trump after every election challenge failed and Barr's days were clearly numbered. Until then he was truly loyal to Trump and used the Justice Dept as Trump’s legal team, and police force.

    * His turning was very soft considering the knowledge he has of Trump misdealings. Of course Barr is also covering his own ass as well.

While I am shocked no Progressive/Leftist/Democrat has said on TV "if Covid is what it took to win, so be it". But I also think it is crazy that the conservatives think it was what happened.

Maybe you could say that China hated Trump so much that they were willing to release a virus "accidentally and covertly". But it only proved that they knew Trump couldn't handle a disaster. Even if it was Chinese intelligence who purposely infected some Wuhan Virology Institute workers and told them to shop at the wet market, knowing that the virus would spread around the world, that seems like a stretch.

The thing is...that is not a either/or straight-forward story arc.
This makes a Quentin Tarantino movie look simple.

China has multiple agendas...financial, influence, ego, import/export, negotiation, stealing and coverups and more...both good and bad.
You can say the same about Trump...except with less intelligence, subtlety and effectiveness.
and so on for all players...nations...and entities, with varying degrees of good intent, bad intent or change at the time.
Some are just plain whacked...but speak well, have connections and somehow made a career before going kooky.
    Consistency is NOT a requirement.

Russia and China obviously have a goal to strengthen themselves and weaken the US - and save ANY face they can.
Trump too...sometimes denying, sometimes working to do good because of the virus surge...sometimes all at the same time and changing at the moment. He's fickle.

This guy is kooky, no matter his cred..and is now casting a broad net...to delay, distract and misdirect.
Smoke and mirrors by a terrible crazy magician.

China is more seemingly, covering up an accidental release. Their Chernobyl.
    This wasn't likely intentional

Trump fell from grace by his own weaknesses. A big mouth that wouldn't stop, constant drama, obvious corruption and a poor showing vs the virus.
    He just can't admit it.

These are webs that don't connect.
But all the spiders should be swept away anyway. They make a mess.

To be clear, I find the actions of the Republican senators who voted against the commission, and the ones who conveniently missed the vote, repulsive. Also the general attitude of the GOP towards the 01-06-21 Insurrection.

With that said, the GOP probably played this the best way possible. By the time a commission is formed and its findings are released, the GOP can claim bias by the Democrats, and most people will forget the GOP passed on the chance to participate in the formation of a bi-partisan commission.

We also have a political climate where ignoring subpoenas and flagrantly lying under oath (with little or no fear of facing the negative consequences) are common.

Now more info about Trump administration, and under USAG William Barr, secret DOJ subpoenas for the phone records of only Democrats political leaders, and subsequent gag orders.

If Trump doesn't wind up in prison, there is something horribly wrong with our system of justice, and politics. The POTUS should not be able to us the DOJ as his private police force, and his personal legal defense team.

Pelosi announces a select committee will investigate Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob — The Washington Post

And here we go, I wonder if they’ll do any legit work
Or will it become a dog and pony show???

    Benghazi was a red herring
The insurrection was something truly of the scale.

Not saying the Benghazi was not true or not tragic
But the GOP made it into a political handball.

The insurrection was a different scope of bad.
A real danger to our government
    And a real coverup

There should be consequences and discoveries
Hope the panel does it justice

The media is hyping this up a little too much. It is a big problem that the conservative media doesn't do as much. If they hype it up, it will either happen and it will be expected, or not be as bad, and the defendants will be vindicated and the public will be shocked and it will be big news. If the indictments were true "Breaking News" that no one saw coming, it will be unexpected and big news when it happens, and if it isn't that bad, then it will just be a non-story.

Oops: The Trump Organization Kept Literal Spreadsheets of Its Crimes — Vanity Fair

Y’know, they’ve got to be the most clumsy white collar criminals “EVAR”!

I’m not surprised, but ashamed that they haven’t been attempted to be taken down until now.

    I mean…duuuuhhh!!!

It’s SO obvious, so apparent…SO blatant.
Our authority figures should have stopped them.

So it’s likely, corruption, neglect, complacency
    All the above…

This is how an infection spreads
Ignore it, don’t do anything about it.

T and his cronies probably have proof spread about like rabbit droppings.

Now, while I don’t doubt things were repressed during T’s administration…what about the others???

It’s obvious that Ts org pushed the envelope and got stupid and greedy during the big boss’ reign.
So now it’s even more slimy and smelly.
    On the radar so large…
That even corrupt lazy pols can’t ignore it.

I wonder how many dead flies and engorged spiders will fall out when this web is pulled down.

Sad we’ve had to wait before now.

But maybe that’s what’s wrong with America
We’ve let the rot settle in.

    Time to rebuild the infrastructure
    Including our procedures and protocols
    Including our policy and monitoring

Supreme Court order ends congressional Democrats' attempts to determine if Trump lied in Mueller probe — CNN Politics

    Yet another obfuscation successful.
The fog to hide what happened let the pirates sail away.

T’s was at least good at one thing.
Masking the BS and corruption of his administration and his own actions.

SCOTUS is closing shop on investigations.

Rudy Giuliani suspended from practicing law in Washington, DC | WTOP

    G is on a role.
T is ignoring he exists and refuses to pay him, of course.
G is also not getting enough money for his defense. (a fraction given to him so far)

The first one down the drain.
Wonder if he'll pull any others down with him.

FBI Infiltrates Virginia 'Bible Study' Group After Jan. 6 Riot

Meanwhile, in FBI land...they're actually making some in roads on investigating the insurrection.
To be honest, they wouldn't have announced it, unless they were going to do something about it.
    Question is...how fast??
The Fed govt is damn slow...BUT persistent, IF not interfered with.
