We should start with the example cited above and this fact:

But not just the room where the gun in stored, but when it is easily accessible (like in a "grandma's purse.")

There are simple technologies that can prevent these unintentional shootings (trigger locks/guards, fingerprint recognition, etc.) that should be mandatory.

This would also likely prevent some of the growing number of child suicides using an easily accessible gun.

Such mandatory access controls would also likely limit this:

Just a start for mandatory gun safety w/o infringing on anyone's rights.

it seems like everytime there is any kind of shooting, people want to ban guns.... that confuses me because its not the way to handle it. maybe there should be more of a way to check the people buying a new one, but you ever know. people can beat the system no matter what it is. so theres no real answer. other than just to be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to your friends, but that's just in general

It shouldn't have to come to "shock videos" like this.....,to enact sensible gun control measures that do not infringe on rights but can potentially reduce gun violence.

Last year was the deadliest on record for school shootings – at least 83 died or were injured in active-shooter incidents. Since Columbine (1999), at least 228,000 students have been exposed to gun violence at school.

Sandy Hook Promise has made other intense videos – but this is the first one in which the viewer can hear gunshots and see blood..

Sandy Hook shooting victims' advocacy group airs chilling anti-school violence ad
Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit organization led by family members of children massacred at a Connecticut elementary school in 2012, released a chilling public awareness advertisement for its violence prevention campaign on Wednesday.

The advertisement, called “Back to School Essentials,” shows children using standard back to school items like scissors, pencils and sneakers as they attempt to flee from a gunman.

“These new socks? They can be a real lifesaver,” said one girl, as she tied a pair of long white socks around the bloodied leg of another girl as a tourniquet.

The advertisement, which aired during NBC’s Today Show and had tens of thousands of online views on Wednesday morning, aims to bring awareness to Sandy Hook Promise’s school violence prevention program “Know the Signs,” which teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and intervene to prevent mass shootings.

A gunman killed 26 children and educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where the non-profit organization is based, in the deadliest public school shooting in U.S. History on Dec. 14, 2012.

    Added:

Background checks have prevented more than 3 million people (those prohibited by law) from legally buying firearms, so they go to gun shows and buy from unlicensed dealer. Universal background checks and closing the "gun show loophole" will make it harder for those people. No law can prevent any illegal act; murder laws dont prevent all murders. This is one sensible proposal that has 90% public approval.

Last week in Texas alone, five kids under the age of ten were accidentally killed by a brother or sister with access to a gun in the house. Mandatory gun safety features (biometric or other) could have prevented these accidental shootings and have widespread public support.

Having a firearms to protect your home and family is fine but you should be able to stop an intruder with nine shots (unless it is the zombie apocalypse).

Limiting the size of high capacity magazines is another common sense measure that has wide spread public support and does not infringe on rights.
