Nope. Diff brews definitely taste different. I usually do Starbuck's Pike Place roast. Had some Dunkin the other day and almost spit it out because it tastes so different--almost like raisins.

It still lets you know that you were mentioned, though.

I used to drink a lot of coffee with a lot of cream. Since I eliminated dairy from my diet, I'm drinking much less coffee. I guess I was using coffee as a vehicle for drinking half-n-half.

  9. I have found Dunkin to be inconsistent from the same location around here. I don't drink their coffee at all anymore. There are many better alternatives, IMO.

Yes, I've notice it...there are many different things that factor into it.
    Water quality
    How long it's been sitting.
The quality of the person making it...yes, this makes a diff, even with industrial machines. (they may be doing portions wrong)
There's always the chance the particular franchises are using different versions of the same brand. (some are cheaper, some invest more)

My ex-step-grandfather owned a DunkinDonuts...I saw what goes into it...it's not as straight-forward as you would think.

    Let's put it this way.
I've always noticed how GOOD food is from those stores near headquarters...or VIPs within the company.
Ex. Subway stores near HQ are used for training owners.
Or...The McDonalds near Joan Kroc's estate in Del Mar (widow of Ray Kroc - the main founder) was incredible.
Or Those stores near HQ are more likely to have inspectors or executives pop in to either show off or try out.

You wouldn't think it makes a difference, but it does.
    Even for just coffee.

I can't handle 'brown water coffee,' all it does is make me queasy. One of my former bosses, the Pyscho Bitch I've previously mentioned, used to complain about the strength of the coffee that I and a co-worker made. We liked strong coffee, and we really liked pissing her off. She would make it point to loudly show new temps the "correct" measurements to brew "good" coffee. We would later educate them on what we would drink and what would sit all day. PB also bought Folgers Special Roast, which pretty much tastes like shit no matter the measurements.

Then PB got her precious feelings hurt (literally) because no one would drink the coffee that she brewed.

Another very big deal is how clean the equipment is.

McDonald's is precise and rigorous about this (as they are in many ways), which is why McDonald's coffee is always at least okay.

Burger King is not, which is (one reason) why Burger King coffee is often just undrinkable.

This is very true. I worked at McDs as a kid. They're very good about the cleaning of the machine AND the brewing of new coffee. I would assume it's only gotten better since they switched to the McCafe model. Their coffee is passable now.

I don't like how some McDs want to 'doctor' my coffee for me. How am I supposed to know exactly how much sugar and milk I need until I taste the coffee? And I don't like coming back to the counter for extra whatever  , esp if they're busy.

My daughter snatched a whole coffee bean this morning as Tt ground his beans. She sucked on it until I removed it. She is most definitely her father's child. What toddler likes that flavor?

Well, if it's good coffee, no reason not to. :p

In all seriousness, if she's been exposed to other bitter flavors via greens, then coffee will seem tasty. :)

BTW, this is an adorable anecdote.

I'll drink hot tea sweetened with Splenda, but my coffee gets real sugar & whole milk. A friend of mine from Puerto Rico used to cringe when I put sugar in espresso. But he liked Coors Light .
