    A lot of women do this. It's sooo nerdy and I support it fully.

    I've been pumping for a half hour now... and finally the milk is starting to flow. Ugh. After a year I'm just not responding as well to the pump as I used to.

    As long as my kiddo wants to take my milk from the tap. She has never been very interested, and I need to lactate for my own health anyway... it's there for her if she wants it. She usually goes for it once every week or so at this point. I also give her about 4 bottles of expressed milk a day, before naps and in the evenings. She's not always interested in the bottle, but it's no skin off my back to have it there for her.

  4. I will be breastfeeding until September. I have a more definitive date since I will be going back on a medication then that is relatively new. Not a lot of info on whether or not it will affect the milk.

    I may keep pumping and selling it to guys on the internet who like to drink breast milk. I hear there's a market for that. Friend of a friend type info there. She apparently made $500/month. I'll just be up front about the meds.

    Don't know how much of a joke that is. That money would be nice.

  6. Me too. Apparently it's not even a freaky thing where they get off on it. They just enjoy breast milk for the raisin bran I guess.

    Just wanted to put this link here.
    Botanynerd's Tips - BabyCenter

    It's a thread with a bunch of advice that I've given the past year in an exclusive pumping community.

  9. I do really appreciate all of your advice. I have been following a lot of your recommendations, even though I hate getting up at 4am to pump now even when BabySquirrel is sleeping through the night, the extra 5 ounces I pump at that time is super helpful.

    I always massage while I pump and believe I get a lot more that way. I need to try some more of the recommendations!

    Off to the basement of my building to pump. About 10 minutes overdue though. My boobs are starting to hurt. It's like an alarm for me to go go go!

    Reading about hops, grains and yeast makes me just want to drink a beer to help with production. ;-)

    A little reminder... Don't overuse galactogogues.
    Overuse of Galactogogues - Why It's a Problem

    Once you get to the point where you are meeting your child's needs, wean yourself off of them. You may need to re-up once a month but constant use results in your body habituating to the chemical stimulus, and they will no longer be effective.

    Tonight I power pumped. It's a way to increaseor maintain supply for long-haul pumping. It's one of the things I can always count on to increase my supply the next few days.

    Power pumping is when you pump for an extended period of time (1 hour or 2 ), 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. I left my hands free bra attached and just turned on and off the pump as needed. I got an extra ounce tonight - not a huge increase - but I will see the fruits of my effort tomorrow. You see, power pumping mimics cluster feeding. Cluster feeding is something a baby does when their needs increase. It works. I try to fit a power pump in every week at this stage, to prevent my supply from dipping below my toddler's needs.

    Power pump quick guide:
    * get a big glass/jug of water.
    * get comfortable.
    * lube up and attach the pump system.
    * pump 10 minutes with massage and compressions.
    * turn off pump for 10 minutes. Rest, chug beverage, run to toilet to pee and refill water.
    * repeat last 2 steps. Use progressively lower suction while increasing hand compressions to assure all of the fatty hind milk is extracted.

    Modified:
    * pump higher-producing breast first, until milk stops flowing freely at end of let-down event.
    *switch. Pump until let-down ends.
    * gulp water.
    *switch.
    Etc until breasts are completely depleted. Back and forth like this stimulates one while the other is being pumped. It also does not require a timer.

  12. Ugggg. I left an important attachment to my pump at home. I will be going there at lunch to retrieve it and cursing the world when I return and can't find parking.

    I'm sorry! I had to hand express all of my milk while at work earlier this week when I left my pump parts at home. It was difficult. I ended up hand expressing into sterile 50ml centrifuge tubes from the lab since I forgot bottles, bags, and my flanges.

  14. I'm going to try the power pump method this weekend. I really need to boost my supply.

  16. Refreezing milk....

    I will be going to CA to visit friends this weekend and intend to wakeup in the middle of the night to pump some extra milk. On the weekends I usually freeze that milk and then take to daycare.

    We are driving (9+ hours) so even though it will be in my friend's freezer for the whole visit, it will probably thaw on the way home.

    This website was helpful, but wondered if anyone had any thoughts.
