Since I last posted here, my boys have gotten their heads around Settlers of Catan and Risk. My 6yo is confident playing both of these, though is a fair bit Kamikaze in Risk. I'm liking the fact that the two of them will get a game out together and not require parental involvement.

The game I want to get next is Castle Panic - something cooperative, so we all win or lose together.

  4. For the folks that like trivia games, try Bezzerwizzer. It's become the adult favorite at my family gatherings.

There are some seriously great games in that list. I still love Dominion and Settlers. I got to play Ticket to Ride in Toronto and then a friend here bought a copy. So fun! I want to get Agricola.

Settlers and Ticket to Ride are both great. The expansions can add a lot. I tend to think of them as being somewhat vanilla these days, which says a lot about me I suppose. Either one (or both!) are a good way to get non-gamers over the "Monopoly" hump.

I recently played my first ever game of Dixit. I think there's more of that in my future. And I have yet to win a round of Pandemic, but dammit, it's bound to happen eventually.

I'm way late on this, but if you want a good kid-friendly co-operative game, Forbidden Island is worth a look. What I like about it is that it's challenging without being punishing. A lot of co-operative boardgames crank the difficulty way up, which can make wins rare (see my comments on Pandemic, above). Forbidden Island is difficult enough to be interesting, but still lets you win sometimes.

We've found castle panic a bit easy. We've played about 6 games and haven't lost yet.

Moon, A/K/A 21, A/K/A 42. It's not a board game, it's basically Spades with dominos instead of cards.
