You obviously have not been to my book club.

We're reading The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. It's an interesting book, but I think we're going to have to read the thing in its entirety before we can have any kind of meaningful discussion. Last night, our book related discussion went like this: "Is anyone else confused? Man, the narrator sounds like my grandma. I hope it's understandable in the end."

Then we went back to drinking, talking about moving, the NBA Playoffs, Competitive Erotic Fanfiction, and other fun topics.

That's an awful lot of questions. My Chromecast plugs directly into the USB port on my TV and streams wireless from my PC or laptop. I used Plex for media and my chrome browser from my MacBook for doing research or working, iffen I want to see it on the Big Screen. It uses my home wireless and we bypass the PS3 at home, I don't have one here. Media runs seamlessly. I don't think I'm answering your questions. I suck at tech. I just LOVE my system.

I'm basically interested in streaming video files from my iMac in the home office to the TV in the living room (which has a PS3).

I don't think you answered my questions, but you rawk just the same.

Isn't all that why y'all have @Martian chained in a basement somewhere? Get him to override your wifi and bring it into the 21st Century.

Thanks. I just know i plug that thing in and stream from my PC using my laptop or phone as a remote, ha ha. And it was only $35. Plex is the media server program. My brain hurts now.

Whose fault is that? Pretty sure I've invited you over at least once since then. @Magpie wants to play Magic with you still, and I still haven't been around to see your new place.

You can't be a hermit and then complain about how you never see anyone.

  8. Does the TV you're connecting to have an HDMI port on it? If so, you can skip the middleman completely and just use ChromeCast from your iMac to your TV, provided they're both on the same network.
It has to be set up from a WiFi device first (smartphone, tablet, iMac in Wireless mode instead of connected to Ethernet) but after that initial setup you can stream stuff to the ChromeCast through Ethernet with no issues, if that's what you're using.
I do not believe you can use the ChromeCast with a PS3 in the way that you're thinking, and I'm also not sure it's possible for a PS3 to have a 'replacement' set of WiFi hardware, though admittedly I haven't looked into it much.

Too much more discussion about this and it should probably move over to the Tech Support thread.

I think I had a scheduling conflict or something (which is rare). I do get busy at times (like now), but those times are normally compressed into a month (like this April). Otherwise, I'm mostly wasting time doing nothing particularly interesting.

I've thought about @Magpie and Magic lately. These cards are burning a hole in a drawer somewhere.

The new place is pretty much ready. But it was only last week that we actually invited people over for the first time.

I dunno. Maybe you'll be next.

Oh, I'm not complaining, but I am a hermit. I think I've talked to you about this (or maybe not), but I'm not the type to initiate social get-togethers. I'm always worried about bothering people with my ballyhoos.

I know I need to fix that, but, well, here I am.

My big heavy clunky not well put together department store bike has a flat tire. I'm sure I could figure out changing it, but I'm taking this as a sign from the bike gods. Time for a new one. To kijiji I go.

For wifi issues, it's either a distance thing or interference. There's frequently not a lot to be done about it. If it's not too onerous I'd just run an ethernet cable.

I think it's a bit of both. Newer devices (iPad, iPhones) receive the signal in the living room just fine. Anything older has problems.

I must be dead, then. ;) I prefer chipotle hot sauce. To me, Sriracha tastes better mixed in with dishes, not added on top.

In other news, I'm becoming addicted to online 8-Ball.

I just buy gigantic bottles of Huy Fong Sriracha at the Asian grocery along with my sambal oelek and chili garlic paste.

Texting with my best guy friend today in advance of the playoff game tonight.

J: RoLo is an animal. He'd tear it up in the sack. Like might literally tear your vagina up.
Me: I like it rough, so that's cool.

Holy FSM, I accidentally typed "500,000" instead of "50,000" in two loan amount fields on my FAFSA loan repayment estimator.
Those three minutes of trying to figure out how to explain to my husband that I was going to have to cough up ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH for ten years just about took those ten years off my life. Crimony fuck.

8%. It would probably go up considerably if I marked off books I own but haven't read or just authors.

In my defense, this is foreign literature. What's your excuse? :p
