  2. I've been on a pretty huge Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer kick for the past few... years... and I've always appreciated their cover of Atom and his Package's "Happy Birthday Ralph."

Strangely there's no videos of this particular song anywhere, so I'm going to leave finding the actual song as an exercise for the reader. Hint: Spotify.

This is just an ad for the album, and i can't find my favourite song on youtube.
Does anyone have children who listen to the Wiggles from Australia? I'm lead to believe they are big worldwide?
Well they are big here & have been going for over 20 years now, i think there is only one original member left in the group. On the 20th anniversary Triple J (or the ABC if you want to get picky) got a group of different bands to remake a bunch of the Wiggles biggest hits.
My favourite is Rock Abye Bear by Spiderbait.
This is Hot Potato by the Living End

    CinnamonGirl The Cheat is GROUNDED!

I've always loved "Dangerous Type" by the Cars:

...and I think Letters to Cleo did a pretty awesome job covering it. I adore Kay Hanley.

Ani Difranco covers an old labor song that Pete Seegar made famous and owns it.

While this isn't a true remake, the re-recording is different from the original. I also vey much liked the TV series.

Yes, I'm picking nits---The remakes of Scarborough Fair aren't actually remakes of a Simon & Garfunkel song. SF is an old English folk song, and many of the "remakes" are actually much closer to the original tune than S&G's version.

Re AATW, we should be thankful that Hendrix and other bands had hits with Dylan's songs.

I can't say I prefer the Irish Rovers' version over the Royal Guardsmen (thanxz again for raising me right, Dad), but I thought this was kinda cool when I found it.

I loved Linda so much that I stalked a record store in Kingston for the giant oversized poster of her back in the fall of '78. Nice to see these posted here.

Wasn't that on the Great Rock n Roll Swindle? (produced by Ronnie Biggs I think). I picked up that particular charmer one day at the Vinyl Museum in Toronto in ...oh 1982? It also had 'Who Killed Bambi?'

The original from the 50s was composed in Zulu; the doo-wap group, The Tokens, had a hit with it in the 60s and Disney had its version for Lion King.

Jimi Hendrix (Watchtower- Bob Dylan) and Aretha Franklin (Respect-Otis Redding) are still the two best covers of all time. Jack White (Jolene), Nirvana (Man Who Sold the World), Johnny Cash (Hurt), Patti Smith (Because the Night- Springsteen) are all good, but add Mott the Hoople (All the Young Dudes- Bowie), Janis Joplin (Bobby McGee- Kris Kristopherson), Counting Crows (Big Yellow Taxi- Joni Mitchell), Manfred Mann (Blinded by the Light- Springsteen), Linda Ronstant (Love is a Rose- Neil Young), Joe Cocker (Little Help from My Friends- Beatles), Van Halen (Pretty Woman- Roy Orbison), The Who (Summertime Blues- Eddie Cochran), Sheryl Crow- Better than Rod Stewart (First Cut is the Deepest- Cat Stevens), Urge Overkill (Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon- Neil Diamond), Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Rollercoaster- Ohio Players), Eric Clapton (I Shot the Sherriff- Bob Marley), George Thorogood (One Burben, One Scotch, One Beer- John Lee Hooker), Social Distortion (Ring of Fire- Johnny Cash), James Taylor (You Got A Friend- Carole king), Stevie Ray Vaughn (Taxman- Beatles), Bruce Springsteen (Jersey Girl- Tom Wait), Norah Jones (Cry, Cry, Cry- Johnny Cash), Jimmy Cliff (I Can See Clearly- Johnny Mathis), Luka Bloom- Better then Adele (Make You Feel My Love- Bob Dylan). And that is just off the top of my head. Half the songs on the previous list are either obscure or crap.

I apologize in advance for once again picking nits.

Because The Night was started by Bruce Springsteen. When he realized that he wasn't getting anywhere with finishing writing it (or wasn't happy it), he (or his producer) gave it to Patti Smith. She finished it, and recorded it first. The songwriting credit officially goes to both artists. Patti's studio version of BTN kicks ass, and some of Bruce's live versions are awesome.

The Cramps have a way of taking anything and making it their own.
Here they take a song that has been recorded by everybody from Peggy Lee to Elvis and given their unique twist.
