1. We've had very few donations over the year. I'm going to be short soon as some personal things are keeping me from putting up the money. If you have something small to contribute it's greatly appreciated. Please put your screen name as well so that I can give you credit. Click here: Donations

    I'm Done! I'm Done!

The house I've been working on installing the wiring for for weeks (months?) is complete. The governmental type official just left and stamped the page with electrical and plumbing complete with his signature of approval. He was very confused by some of my work because I did odd things like use green wire for all ground lines. He was really confused by my grounding rod. The man next to him half whispered in Spanish "I think it's ok, I've seen other electricians bu they usually just connect the large copper cable to the PVC plumbing tubes that run under the house or underground, so it's just another negative or grounding." The man with the clip board, stamp and signature I needed nodded knowingly and we moved to the kitchen. There they glanced around a bit and clipboard man stamped, signed and glued my "passed inspection" certificate to the front door.

Done, done, done... happy dance time I done!

How much did the "passed inspection" cost you (wink, wink)? :p

OK, I shouldn't be perpetuating the every-government-official-in-Mexico-is-corrupt myth.

My cost was zero pesos. Now the owner may have "made an arrangement" but my money would be that he too coughed up zero pesos. He's an interesting guy (yeah, yeah... I too have no idea why he's thrown in with the likes of me.) He's just retired from Fed-Ex where he piloted 747's and other large cargo jets for them for 32 years. At his retirement lunch he pondered to me whether he was going to be able to make the adjustment. "Going from working full-time to being retired?" "No, my retirement is just a little of 50% of my normal pay. Plus I brought in a huge per deim check each month." I told him I'd gone down to 63% when I hung it up. "Yeah when I was still working my yearly was just over $500K. Now I'll have to see how far $267K will go." Thought he was joking at first... had no idea Fed-Ex pilot made that kind of cash. Anyway during our conversation he mentioned how much he hated the bribe "system" stating "I'll pay a lawyer 10K not to pay some government lowlife one cent.

I am cold. Bone-chillingly, endlessly, and frustratingly cold.

I got sucked into some yaoi manga about two guys who were in love with each other in high school and now work together at a publishing company for shojo manga. It's pretty entertaining, but it's totally distracting me from doing things that actually need to get done.

My husband got a $50 gift card to a grocery store we don't shop at for his Thanksgiving bonus. Um, okay. We're trying to decide what to do with it, as we can't buy alcohol with it, and my house is already fully stocked with groceries. I think we'll probably end up spending it on stuff we can give to the food bank.

There's a shortage of Cat food at all of the local shelters here. I think I'm going to make a donation with the $5 off $30 coupon from publix.

I suspect I screwed up slightly putting the last one in. West Germany made some quality goods; even with the higher amount of plastic you expect from the early 70's models this is still in excellent condition and should outlive both of my current computer systems (and their eventual replacements) by years.

Had a near miss tonight. A female friend decided she wanted to kiss me. She did. Could have been more intense. Glad it wasn't.

Time to get dressed for sitting in the woods in 15* weather.

Takes the pressure off of opening morning for firearm season when you've already bagged a 10-pt buck with a bow last week.

I'm right there with you @genuinemommy, I get so depressed from the cold and darkness. I want 85F with crystal clear waters and a vodka martini.

Please forgive this, but I must mention it.

The spokesperson for Houston Food Bank makes it a point to mention that while they appreciate food donations, the reality is they can use their buying power to turn monetary donations into much more food than if they relied on food donations.

Oh, I know that. I used to work in ministry, so I'm pretty familiar with the needs of various organizations. But it is better to give something over nothing.

IME there is something special about food. It's such a necessity that the physical act of providing food gives us a sense of satisfaction that writing a check doesn't & can't. Or maybe I'm FOS  :D.

OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE.

Nothing, really...just watched four episodes in a row of Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.

My super-feminine inner self is a melted puddle of goo that won't stop squeeing.

Watched the Wizards smack down Lebron and the Cavs tonight.

Lebron wont try to dunk on the Polish Hammer (Marcin Gortat) again!
