Glad to hear you survived, Tully.
And it sounds like you were indeed lucky to survive.....and keep your arm.

When I get around to cleaning out our long ignored garage & cluttered utility room I'll have to keep my eyes open for brown recluse spiders. A couple of months back I spotted one by the door between the dining area & the utility room. It wasn't feeling well because it had crawled through some spilled pesticide, otherwise it wouldn't been sitting out in the open. We're lucky to only have three poisonous spiders here: Brown recluse (very nasty bites), black widows (nasty bites), & tarantula (more painful than deadly, not that I want to find out).

Hahaha. Yeah, that victory was pretty sweet.

You've had a hell of a year so far. Hope you catch a break soon, dude.

My wife was bitten by a brown recluse about 10-12 years ago while we were camping. Those bites are no joke.

Untreated, or treated too late, they're a good way to lose a limb.

We had a friend who was bitten by a spider while in Spain. She was lucky it wasn't serious because the doctors were uncertain as to how to treat the bite without knowing what kind of spider had bit her. In an understandable knee-jerk reaction one of her parents squashed the spider beyond recognition.

It's been a rough one, no doubt. Every time shit like this happens I have two very conflicting yet conscious thoughts- I seem to know when to duck at the right time for some odd reason (or I just have good but odd luck) and someday out of the blue... well let's just say I don't see myself passing in a bed in a nursing in my old age somewhere. I figure it'll be more like "did not see that coming." But another thought I always get after an event like this is life is about the big things, family, love ones etc... Little piss ant problems a lot of us, including myself, get ourselves involved in are all BS in when looking at the big picture. Yes, it's a been a hard go this year. Still not my worst and it would seem like up is about the only way to go... one hopes anyway.

Right after I posted about my recent misstep I went to check my bank to see what was going on while I was out of it. I noticed on the 26th my retire sent me a deposit of a little less then $100. A hundred bucks? I assumed that was due to the holidays and they were making deposits prior to the first, in my head I had Sunday as the 1st. But why $100? I'm not wealthy by any means but I can proudly say I do bring in more than a C note every month. I'll admit I went into a panic of sorts as this years been rough on me and my finances. I half expected to log on to a home state newspaper and see where my retire fund had been bankrupted or "Madoffed" somehow. Nope not a word. So I log onto the retire site itself, no bold headlines. Something about some recent minutes from a meeting of the board but nothing stood out. So how did I lose several grand even if for one month? Ok, read the whole page. There in small font was a small notice stating the "special annual benefit the State Senate had ordered has been paid on the 26th, Regular monthly benefits will go out on the 1st as normal." Look at a calendar and see the 1st is Monday not Sunday. Read the whole link and it states they sent out letters in 2013 notifying members of the annual benefit (less then 1% of your normal benefit.) Yeah, I remember a letter you sent me almost two years ago about some small payment that will be paid a couple years in the future. Financial ruin false alarm. Heart back in chest. Think I'm suppose to cook a turkey today or is that tomorrow. I shall go ask.

Being that I was treated for a scorpion bite/sting rather than a spider was a big issue once I got to a real hospital. The main Dr. who saved my arm, maybe me?) told me it was very important to know what type of spider bite I had and he was sending up a chart with photos. I told him "it was white." "That makes that easy, now we know how to proceed." The next day I heard a nurse, in Spanish, tell another nurse I'd been bitten by "the white spider." The nurse she told was obviously taken a back and said "didn't it take two days to get him on the treatment?" "Yes." "How do his kidneys still work... in fact why is he still breathing?" I thought well I haven't pissed in a days and I'm sure I could not walk across this room so neither are working well.

You can get shot, stabbed, hit by a bus and the make, model size really don't matter as far as Tx plans goes. Get bit something and the type of venom is a good thing to know.

I keep getting letters asking me to prove I'm not employed by another PERS agency. Wouldn't they have a record of that if I were? I mean they send out these letters with a "reply in two or else" demand and mail takes three weeks to reach me. I'm really fortunate (and thankful) and I know I have a way better deal then those hired just months after me but I have to say they can be a pain in the ass.

You would think, wouldn't you, but no. I'm responsible for reporting all of my hours to PERS should I approach the threshold where I become eligible for benefits; I have to let the school district know to let PERS know. I might get close this year. We'll see. Either way, it's a PITA, since I have to track it on my own.

Just tell them you've been a member for 37 yrs and you're just a young looking 63 yr old. You'll be tier one and start planning that cruise.

Just figured out it's Civil War Game Day and I get it. See living the "Life of Brian"- always look on the bright side of life.

There's a whole set of light novels associated with the manga I devoured last week, and the scanlators have translated all of them. I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for Civil War, I'd spend all day on the sofa binging on BL romance while semi-watching football.

Probably a slaughter but you never know when it's comes to the Civil War. I've often thought if the Beav's would just play every game the way they do the Civil War they'd be nationally ranked

Jesus Tully, so glad you're okay.
    That is some scary shit.
So glad I live in a state where things that can kill you are at bigger than you are.
    Take care of yourself.

The advertisement for Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 comparing it to an Macintosh Notebook certainly worked for me - I want to buy a MacBook Pro more than before. That was what Microsoft was intending with the ad right?
They had a bad start with the "Microsoft" part and the "Windows 8" part just made it worse.

My daughter has been bugging me that I don't eat enough vegetables so on our last Costco run I bought two containers of Kirkland broccoli cheddar soup, saying there now the vegetables are covered.
She wasn't impressed in the slightest.
I have to say the soup is very tasty and when I got started it was easy to eat a whole container.

Of course now I have a terrible case of broccoli farts but it was worth it.
