Lucky you caught them at their game. But even AWG 8ga seems kind of light. Only 50 amps capacity, or is that different in Mexico?

#8 is less than half of what Oregon requires. Depending on your panel- 100, 150 or 200 amps you're required to use #4 or #2.

Everything her in Mexico is different. I have one double pull (220) 32 amp breaker behind my meter at the street. Then there's 3 lines of #8 cable in an orange plastic tube that runs about 55ft. to the main breaker box in my utility room. The cable from the meter to the main box is buried so deep I can easily dig it up with the heel of my dress shoe. Oh and rather then use the bonding or grounding bar they just take all the ground wires and twist them in to one giant mess and wrap a ton for electrical tape around it. I asked why they didn't use the grounding bar and they had no idea what it was. Once these idiots are gone I'll change a lot of things. I'll probably keep the #8 main cable as every home I've lived in down here uses it and I've never had a problem.

Every tradesman in Mexico is an expert and you can't tell him he's wrong. "Been doing this for 30 years! Don't tell me my job!" "Yep, been doing it for 30 years.... wrong"

I'd say it's 60/30%. 60% cost because #8 is three times the cost of #12 down here. Plus when I bought this house, signed the papers the dollar to peso exchange rate was 11.5 to 1. one month later it was 16 t0 1. For the past month or so it's been 18.5 to 1. This has saved me well over 30k on a what would have been a 110K house. And I'm sure it's costs the builder a lot.So he's cutting every corner he can at this point. Given that general laborers are paid about 10 bucks a day and the fact it would take them less then 15mins. to change out that cable, I'm old and out of shape and could do it in less than and hour. I sure cash played a large part in his decision.

The other 30% is they just don't like being told what do by a gringo.

In other news to paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson... I'm getting tried of these mf'ing keys on this mf'ing keyboard. I think he was pissed off about some snakes on a plane or some such thing. I'm about ready to deal with some snakes on a plane if it meant never having to use this keyboard again. Seriously 30 mins to hack out two posts.

It's been a while, TFP. And here I come back and the first thing I do is complain...

So my ex-boss, let's call him R, moved to another Division in the company at the end of Feb this year. Before he left, we had a conversation about my salary/grade and agreed that my responsibilities had grown to a point where an increase was warranted. He wrote a nice motivation to my new boss, H, and wished me well. About a week into March, I was handed an additional department to manage as part of an interim deal with the client (I manage IT services for one large client of ours). This was in addition to the 2 other departments I already manage...with a zero increase in salary.

I obviously brought this up with H, and he gave me a long story about having to motivate for an increase with his boss, but that he would push for it. A month later I sent him an email asking where we were at, and he asked me to send him a breakdown of my salary increments for the past 5 years, which I dutifully did. Thinking he was moving forward on his end, I left him alone for a couple of weeks. At the beginning of May, he brought the issue up in a meeting and again gave me the story about having to fight with his boss to get it approved.

I've basically been doing 40% more work for the past 4 months, with not a cent more in pay. And it's starting to frustrate me. My wife and I are struggling a bit financially at the moment (struggling may be a bit harsh...we can cover all our expenses but then there really is nothing left at the end of the month), and it's disheartening to be told by the client how good of a job you're doing, but your own bosses don't want to give you a salary bump. Would it have been less of a problem if I was already getting paid well? Probably. But that's not the case and I'm pretty fucking tired of working my ass off with buggerall to show for it.

  5. My wrist hurts. A lot. I don't think it's carpal tunnel, but am going to see a doctor, but not until next week.

I just want to whine. It hurts. Makes my hand hurt. My shoulder on the same side hurts. I'm sure it has something to do with typing and using a mouse. Also probably related to not sitting properly in my desk chair.

If I remember right, because they radiate heat better, having individual wires, probably red, black, and white running in conduit or armored cable give a little higher safely usable amp capacity than the same gauge in a Romex type cable. If there's only three wires, then they are using neutral as the ground. When I rewired my Boston duplex code still allowed that. But code in Kansas required a separate ground wire, bare or green.

  7. Wife has been in the hospital for 2 weeks now. I'm taking care of our newborn and the 3 others (toddlers) while working from home and going back and forth to the hospital. The staff at the hospital are idiots. I have to be there to make sure what they do make sense. My wife doesn't want to be transferred because we've been associated with this place for years. Stressful would be an understatement.

The in-laws have invaded my home and totally disregards any of my directions on how to manage my kids. It's bad enough that these people pop up at random times of the day without notice, they do it and expect me to be appreciative.

Our newborn wakes up every 2 hours during the night and early morning. (Between 10pm and 9am) Then he sleeps the entire day. The kids wake up at 8am and go to sleep at 9pm. I think I've had 6 hours of sleep in the past 4 days.
Could I use their help? Sure....but at what cost? They come over uninvited, spoil the kids, feed them junk, and allow them to destroy the house. When i come home from the hospital, I have to clean the house, sometimes pay for their rides home, tend to the kids, login to the VPN to do the work I missed, study for my next certification exam, and prep for my interviews. (Oh yeah, I'm getting laid off during this so I've been interviewing during this shit storm as well.)

To top it all off....I wake up this morning, with a cold...A fucking summer cold. And the temperature is going to be 92 degrees today....21 degrees hotter than yesterday....It rained all day yesterday.

I was watching a George Carlin video (I miss that irreverent guy), he was going on about people who should be beaten with sharp sticks, well I have some more.

    "Celebrities"
Justin Beiber (Moron with too much money and NO talent)

    Political "people"
Hillary and slick Willie (Crooks and Liars)

    Movie people
Liam Neeson (This asstard has made millions with violence and little talent)
in movies killing everyone in sight with guns
then stating he is against guns)

Feel free to add to this list, I have only started.

Liam Neeson is actually a talented actor, IMO. I think that he, much like Tom Cruise (puke!), discovered the easy money in making action movies (why make the effort to actually act?). I don't follow his politics--I pay little attention to celebrities--but if he is anti-gun, yes, he's a hypocrite.

There are many people in popular music with no/minimal talent. I like to criticize Nicki Minaj (it's not totally personal because I think that she epitomizes what is wrong in pop music). I call her Fakey Miraj for several reasons. She has a weak/mediocre voice (if her voice sounds good in her studio recordings, credit should should go the folks engineering the recordings), ridiculously artificial tits, and her huge ass most likely fake. If it weren't for her barely-covers-enough-to-avoid-getting-arrested outfits, she wouldn't have a career as a "singer." To make matters worse she likes to say that she wants to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams (which apparently should include breast and ass implants), and refers to herself as a recording "artist." As a strip-tease artist, maybe, definitely not as a singer.

To be fair, popular music is NOT marketed to my age demographic. Every aging generation has had dislikes regarding the music of the new generation. Pop music wouldn't be "popular" if people didn't buy the songs/albums, go to the concerts, follow & discuss the "artists" in social media, etc. If that's what people want to listen to & see, so be it.

It was so hot today that I had to go home and take my pants off after being in the car for 40m even with air con. It felt like I'd peed my pants they were so sweaty. Minimum of two showers a day these days.

There are people who don't ALWAYS immediately take their pants off as soon as they walk in the door?

I mean, I have to take my shoes off first. But that's only to get my pants off.

Had a fight with the lady today. She was wrong, being selfish and overreacting.
    I kept calm.
Most I did is stand up and get a bit louder, but even this can be intimidating for someone not used it. (she hasn't seen me REALLY mad yet... )

She was upset, but then again she is overworked and exhausted (much of it her own fault...and poor choices)

She trounced out in fury...but then came back in and said sorry. (a bit teary)
I thanked her sincerely and told her to get some rest. (we're our own worst enemies sometimes...she's pushing herself, ignoring her limits...there is a price to pay)
But I won't take it...even if I know why. I don't need to be a target or punching bag.

She's got some issues to figure out. I hope I have the patience to wait and tolerate. (right now, she's pushing it)
I bend, flex and give...but I'm no rubber band or mush.

Although, I will say this...it is interesting and challenging to have an argument where one doesn't fully know the language. (you got to make sure it translates and is understood, even when impassioned...both ways.)
I feel like Lucy & Ricky (but personality wise, it's more like Harry & Sally)

  18. I can't stand Facebook, yet I can't step away.

The election is making things worse. What happened in Orlando is highlighting more craziness.

    I just want kitty videos.

  20. I wanted a cookie. It was 3:30pm on a college campus in the summer. Normally I have TONS of places where I could go to get a cookie. However, summer hours are in place and all the little stores, coffee shops and restaurants close at 3pm. I decided to try the office campus convenience store. They were closed.

No one wants me to have a cookie.
