I recently got back into Neverwinter. I'm not yet sure I like it.

I'm still eyeball deep in EVE Online. The Alliance that my corp is unfortunately a part of went to war with another Alliance and my main had to stay in station all week. I found that out the hard way when two war-mad gankers attacked me while I was out peacefully mining and I lost my Procurer. 30 Million ISK down the tubes. So I started training an alt character who wasn't in the corp so I could continue my mining. The war ended yesterday and I was able to get my main out of the station finally. The good thing about having an alt is I can train him for war, also being able to make contracts between my characters I can transfer ships, goods and ISK back and forth as needed. My alt has a Caldari cruiser and is training for a Destroyer now. My cruiser has 7 missile launchers and I plan on loading up the Destroyer with railguns.

I played Firewatch over the weekend. The developers billed it as a six hour game, but I swear I did it in about two.

It was good. I liked it but I can see why it's controversial. I can't really talk about it more than that. Talking about it would ruin it. Best experienced first hand.

Dang it...that one is on my wishlist.

I ended up not buying anything at all in the Steam sale. The lack of flash sales and a minigame made me sort of lose enthusiasm for the whole thing, and by the time I realized it was ending, I didn't have any money. Grr.

I've been playing the original Stronghold lately. A couple weeks ago, I did a Conquer the World campaign in Rise of Nations. Everyone is Egyptian now, for the record.

Any of our Civilization fans playing Civ 6 yet?

I downloaded it a week or two ago, but haven't had time to play much. So far I was a bit underwhelmed, though most of the reviews make me feel optimistic that it'll grow on me as I play more.

Under lots of peer pressure I've recently begun to pick up a dangerous and unhealthy habit which inevitly causes nothing but heartache and anger. In other words I'm giving League a shot because all of my friends play it.

Overwatch is having a free weekend this weekend . I decided to give it a shot. It's a lot of fun. I find these kinds of team-based games a little intimidating because I don't like the idea that my lack of skill is ruining someone else's fun. But the matchmaking seems decent in that only in one of the three games I've played so far did I feel like I was badly outclassed.

Worth giving it a shot if that's your sort of thing really.

I've been playing Majesty 2 a lot this week. I don't think any other game has made me rage-quit so much.

I bought Firewatch today, during the ongoing Steam sale. I like it a lot so far, but I wish Henry could run with his map out or at least have it put away whenever you press R with it still out.

I finished Firewatch yesterday, and I can't see why it's controversial (or how). Can we talk about it with spoiler tags?

Picked up Cities: Skylines during the Steam sale. Someone described it as "An updated SimCity, if EA didn't suck." It is just as difficult and frustrating as SimCity, for the record, but there's still something fun about it. I accidentally played for 4 hours yesterday.

A lot of people didn't like how the ending turned out to be boring and normal. There was no conspiracy, there was no mystery, it was just some crazy dude living in the woods the whole time. Between that and the fact that you never meet Delilah a lot of what I read was people who thought the whole thing was something of an anticlimax. I don't agree really, I thought it was great, but I can definitely see how someone would feel that way at least.

I did end up buying Overwatch. It's a lot of fun but I'm still terrible. The learning curve is pretty steep. At least the matchmaking is good, and/or there are enough noobs around right now that I can play with people at roughly the same skill level as me and not feel overly outclassed.

I played two games of hearthstone today, both times taking over for @Magpie so she could go to the bathroom. I won them both. I never really had any interest in Hearthstone but since I need the battle.net client for Overwatch now anyway maybe I'll download it and give it a shot.

How's the feel on PC? Does it come across as excessively consolized or did they make a nice crisp PC version (no mouse accel, PC scale UI, good advanced graphics/sound options, etc)?

Nah, Overwatch definitely feels like a PC game first and foremost. I don't know what's doing at Blizzard but I think they've always been a PC developer first so I would have been surprised if that weren't the case.

I haven't played it on console so I don't know how different they feel. I tend to prefer PC for shooters, the gamepad feels clunky to me. I guess it's from all those Doom deathmatches when I was a lad.

    Re: Firewatch
I thought the ending was exciting. I was dreading being left behind! I liked how the supposed government conspiracy was revealed to have been staged by a previously discussed character, Ned, trying to prevent Henry from uncovering Tim's death. Not only is that a believable explanation, but I also liked how it reflected the kind of deceitful whodunit plots that I imagine Ned had read in the many hard-boiled detective novels strewn throughout the Two Forks region. So there was a mystery! I guess I can understand that the after setting a player's expectations for a grand conspiracy, the ending could seem underwhelming, but I think following through with the conspiracy (or leaving off with a government coverup ending) would have been less rewarding than one might imagine. Henry and Delilah being secretly monitored for an unethical social experiment concerning the relationship of two people who communicate by radio in the woods about mundane fire lookout stuff isn't especially interesting a reveal (and anything more elaborate than that I think would seem too contrived for me). I can at least see why that's disappointing, if not controversial.

I wasn't expecting to meet Delilah because it was pretty clear to me that the developers didn't have the resources for decent NPC animation (hence the text-only intro, the distant silhouettes of the two teen girls and the shadowy Ned, and even the limited wildlife), especially knowing that the game's budget must have been limited by it being the first ever title produced by an indie studio, Campo Santo. So that choice as well I think gave the best possible outcome, as the alternative would have been more disappointing. Anyhow, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I thank you for sharing that reaction from other players.

I've been on a 2 month hiatus from Eve Online, while I work through Dishonored 2. It's super fun getting back into Corvo's body and blinking around new locations. Dishonored 2 isn't as darkly noir as the first game and the bloodfly plague isn't nearly as bad as the rat plague was. The witches make a nice change from the Overseers (although they are still around in this one) and some new weapons help considerably. Bonecharm and Rune crafting are a new asset! I got about 1/3 of the way into it and noticed that my chaos level was too high, so I went back and restarted trying to keep it low. Now I'm in the final chapter and I figure any changes are set, so I'm mainly killing witches.
