How many pairs of shoes do you have?
    Describe your shoes.
    Do you like this number?
What would you change, if you could.

I have a few, I try to keep the number down:
    Black flats for work
    Impractical formal heels
Black sexy boots, insulated for winter
    Running shoes
Indoor shoes (slippers with good support)
Star Trek slippers (fun and soft)
    Gardening clogs
    Hiking boots
    Sandals

More than I realized I had when I started thinking about it.
Considering I don't care much about shoes I seem to have accumulated a bunch.
1 pair of nice comfortable dress shoes
1 pair of uncomfortable dress shoes which I could probably get rid of but I wore them at me wedding so...
A collectible pair of converse that I should probably stop wearing
camo design walking shoes that I wear mostly at work
    Light snow boots
    slippers
Heavy duty snow boots with built in cleats
    Sandals

Considering there was a time when I wore one pair of Doc Martins and a pair of Chucks for five years that's a lot for me.

I too have accumulated many pairs (for a guy) of shoes and boots over the years. But I tend to stick with 2-3 pairs that I wear on a regular basis. I need to pull & donate many of the ones I rarely wear/haven't worn in years.

Which leads to this side note: In my thrift store & resale shop adventures I've noticed something. There seem to be two items that guys will completely wear out before getting rid of them, shoes & belts.

    I tend to be pragmatic.
I used to be a shoe salesman...so I know what standard styles are popular and work
and what to do to prevent wear & tear... (alternating helps a lot...I like shoe trees too)

I've got 2 black, one sleek, one clarks
2 burgundy, one oxford, one brogue
2 dockers/loafers, one dark brown, one tan
one pair of black cowboy boots with metal tip accent.
3 sneakers, one running, one light and white leather, one black climbing.

I'd get more...but I don't like spending money on them.

My wife gives me a hard time about this, that I probably have more shoes than she does...

First, from a practical standpoint, because I have flat feet and a not so great back, having good shoes makes a huge difference in how I feel physically. Also, certain things do require specific shoes, so some of mine are tied to that. For instance, I have a pair of black engineer style boots for riding my motorcycle. I have two pairs of hunting boots (older pair is almost worn out). A pair of steel toed Rockport style shoes for times that I'm on a customer factory floor for work. Then several pairs of dress shoes, two black, one burgandy, one dark brown, one tan, three pairs of loafers in various colors, a pair of dressy sandals, six pairs of Jordans, a pair of cowboy boots, a pair of Timberlands, a couple pairs of flip-flops.......

I think I have plenty of shoes, but I do like good shoes. Not sure I really need to change anything up right now.

I'm super pragmatic when it comes to clothes in general.

I usually keep to four pairs:

    1) Everyday all-season shoes. (About one pair a year.)
    2) A pair of running shoes that I use for sports/training. (These get used about once a year for what seems to be an annually obstacle course race every summer.)
    3) A pair of dress shoes for the rare occasion that I have to dress up.
    4) A pair of slip-ons for running outside (with the dog or to take out trash/recycling).

I used to wear sandals during the summer months, but I haven't done that lately.

I may have an old pair of winter boots hidden in a closet somewhere. I haven't needed serious winter boots lately.

3 pairs of Vasque hiking shoes. 2 pairs are low top and are my every day attire. I have 2 because they get wet sometimes. The third pair is high top, when that is appropriate (motorcycle, mostly).

1 pair dress shoes. I'd have to chase the spiders out of these.

1 pair Chaco sandals. I don't wear them much. I'm too much of a clutz to wear sandals in the mountains.

1 pair ski boots, these need to be replaced soon.

I'm not sure if snowshoes count, I wear them with hiking boots.

I don't like wearing shoes. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. I spent the summer months of my childhood going barefoot at Maple Lake and it spoiled me for life.

The Arizona move resulted in a big lifestyle change and I went a bit overboard with walking shoes. I have a similar slip-on style in tan, navy, bronze, black, silver and lgt. blue plaid. I keep the two oldest pairs for indoors on the cold tiles throughout the house.

Sandals are part of the lifestyle here. I have two pairs of Birkenstocks, silver and bronze, but would like one more for variety.

My winter walking shoes are black suede Elites walking cradles.

I have a sky-high pair of strappy blue-suede shoes, a pair of staid black funeral pumps and sensible winter boots. None of these will get much use here in Arizona.
Also have a pair of black leather booties with a mid-level heel and grey suede booties with a chunky stacked heel. Wore the grey suedes twice this winter past, the black booties not at all.

I have three pairs of Isotoner ballet slippers which are super comfy but have sat pretty much unused here in the desert. Have two pairs of Flojos flip flops which are sturdy, have some support and prevent slipping around indoors and a pair of gold Clarke's beach sandals that sadly, are not getting much wear.

I have a multi-hued pair of espadrilles that I realize were a bad impulse buy. They just look...odd...so donation to Goodwill.

I plan to get a pair of hiking boots when I can afford it.

Much of my life was spent in ugly shoes as I wear a 10W. I've long insisted on comfort first but I like style as well. For the last decade or so, thanks to the internet I actually have shoes that I think are practical and pretty.

Oh yeah, I forgot...I have a pair of bedroom slippers (for winter/cold only)
and sandals for summer (but they have to have some sort of binder to keep them on)

First I have high arches...so that's a factor in buying for me.
But I cannot have any shoes that have no heal back...or a preferably a tie or strap to secure them
I "HATE" the sensation that something may be falling off me. (gives me the willies)

Also, to be honest...I have light gout...so I have to factor that in when it flares up.
(I can't tell you how much foot massages to for me these days...)

Even though I'm in IT...I walk a lot. (and I'm heavier...so the impact to my feet is wearing...especially during a commute...to the train and all)

Too many to count and not one pair of heels. They are all Van's, converse, hot chocolates, and hiking boots. I don't do dress shoes.

Huh. I don't really know. I've never been an "omg, shoes" kinda girl, but I have recently admitted that I MIGHT have an obsession with boots. I really, really love boots.

I have four pairs that I wear on a regular basis.

    1) my cowboy boots. Brown, with teal accents. I think they're Ariat.
    2) My work shoes. All black Skechers with a thick sole.
    3) My running shoes...green and purple New Balance.
    4) Knee-high brown boots with laces up the back. I originally bought them for Renn Fest, but I tend to wear 'em any time I wear a skirt now.

Oh, and if they count, then 5) my Captain America house slippers.

Beyond that is a small collection of heels ('cause I'm super short) for dressy-dressy occasions, at least six more pairs of boots (mostly black or brown, ranging from ankle to knee length. One or two have heels, but most are flat. Oh, and the very redneck-looking insulated camo waders that my mom gave me after she decided she didn't like them), and a various assortment of Vans, Converse, and Keds. Also two pairs of slip-ons that I can grab quickly if I need to run outside for the dogs, but I'm not entirely sure where they are right now.

I don't do sandals or open-toed shoes, because I don't like my feet. I do usually have a pair of flip-flops to wear to the pool in the summer, though (and in the shower at the gym.) I also tend to buy shoes for specific cosplays, as well.

Edited to add: Changed my vote, because I obviously have more than 11 pairs, but I don't *think* I go over 50.

High arches and narrow feet make finding comfortable shoes, other than athletic shoes which are designed for arch support and to fit snuggly, difficult. Wearing a size 12 or so doesn't help.

A true story I previously posted, possibly in the previous version of The TFP:

I was in Academy about three decades ago (when Academy was a basic store, not the We-Carry-Nearly-Everything store they are now), waiting for an associate to help me. I commented to another customer that I wished the shoe manufacturers made half sizes above size 11 (remember, this was a few decades back). He, who was no taller than 5' 7", said, "Try wearing a size a 14. I wish that Gawd had asked me where to put those extra inches."

Dragging some spring stuff out of the closet (prepping for trip to the SW) I discovered 4 (pair) heels, 4 flats, 2 earth shoes (neg heel) 2 mocs, 4 huarache style sandals, and 2 pair cowgirl boots. I would never have guessed I had that many. I go barefoot a lot except in winter.

Proud to say I don't own any flip-flops.:D

I intentionally told the story so that it could be perceived two ways.

    He might've meant his height.
    He might've meant his...........

I was there and am pretty sure I knew which he meant ;).

We have a very lengthy thread, about ten pages IRRC, about size. Maybe it needs to be bumped :p.

Just bought another pair of Flojos flip flops. Spring fever is my excuse. I also pretty much did in my 1st pair during my home improvement adventure prior ro the big move. They give great traction on both rug and tile floors. Wear them strictly for inside though. I don't do flip-flops in the great outdoors. Not enough coverage.

You give me too much credit; I didn't think about "lengthy" thread when I wrote it .

Now back on track, sort of:

What about wearing shoes without socks? I rarely do, and usually only if I'm hanging around the house not doing much. I don't wear sandals, even with our 9-10 months of warm weather here. Can't stand to feel a shoe on bare skin if I'm moving around a lot, and socks with sandals looks dorky.

The only shoes I wear without socks are those designed to be worn that way. I have two pairs of what most people call "boat shoes" that I wear without socks. I have one pair of dressy sandals that I wear without socks. Flip flops are pool/beach wear only, but obviously without socks.

Everything else gets worn with socks.
