Humor: do you have it?

I tend to not get jokes.
I like humor that is very overtly silly. Plays on words, puns, and kids humor is pretty much the extent of what I pick up on. I oddly appreciate when shows use laugh tracks so I realize something is a joke.

    What about you?

I learned my style of humor within my family. I grew up with a smart and witty father and a super-serious mum. Dad was so bright and utterly Canadian. I wish I were more of both. But I love to laugh and to have others join me so I find many things funny. My mum was quite bright but she did not appreciate much of my dad's humor, especially what she called "lowbrow humor". I don't think one should judge humor like that unless it is that person's career to be funny. The rest of us are just amateurs. My best days are the ones that include a belly laugh. I don't care who or what has provoked the laughter.

I can't tell a joke to save my life though. Don't think being able to tell jokes--or getting them for that matter--makes one any more or less funny. I love, love, love kid's humor. I watched a dog dig and bury a bone in my side yard the other day and about split a gut. It was such fun to see the little guy in his element. I find joy in many things and that makes me laugh. Someone else might see nothing funny there. I say laugh whenever possible.

I have a very dry sense of humor. I like smart comedy and relish in witty sarcastic comments.
I like to think I can see the funny and ironic side of situations pretty easily and don't take myself too seriously.

As my posts clearly indicate I have no sense of humor.

I like a wide variety of humor, except when it's too juvenile. Well done absurdist humor is a fave (Monty Python). Insult humor leaves me cold (Don Rickles).

My own sense of humor is sarcastic, ironic and irreverent...
Robin Williams, The Far Side, George Carlin, Blazing Saddles, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

    I'm not a dry wit.
But I'm more a jovial person.
If I'm telling joke or making a sarcastic comment, it is apparent.

I'm not disdaining, cruel or insulting ever.
I laugh at myself and the human condition.

At the same time, I don't like blatant or over the top crude humor...there has to be some subtlety, respect and in tune with intelligence.

Like the difference between the old and the new "Nutty Professor"
The old was funny to me...the new, I walked out on.

I do know I can tell a joke...but I have to be "on" and not care...be in the moment.
    If I am...
Then I can actually entertain a whole room and keep them laughing for a long time.

But if I'm sincere or self-conscious...then I'm off and it shuts down.

My sense of humor is all over the place.
I love puns and dark humor.
The one that I don't care for is the discomforting type of humor where people are embarrassed or don't get that the joke is one them.
Maybe because it is too easy for me to put myself in the place of the person who is the target of the joke.

I...don't actually know if I'm funny or not. Half the time, my jokes are some obscure (or geeky) pop culture reference that no one gets, and then I just feel awkward.

As for getting jokes from other people...it depends, I guess. Like @redravin , my taste tends to run to dark humor and puns, and I don't like "mean" humor. I love Monty Python. I dislike most stand-up comedians and "popular" sitcoms.

I amuse myself, though, and sometimes Eden. So I guess that's the main thing.

My humor is all over the place. Robin Williams, George Carlin, Richard Prior, Red Foxx, Lenny Bruce, Don Rickles, Bill Cosby (still funny despite his charges), Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Steven Wright, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Eddie Murphy, Louis CK, Rodney Dangerfield, Sam Kinison (pre recovery), Lucille Ball, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Roseanne, Lisa Lampanelli and dozens more from other countries. I don't like to limit my exposure to comics. You never know what will make you laugh until you here it, read it or see it.

This happens to me frequently. I know I am with my people when they get the reference (eg all you all).

Most days, I make the joke and am pleasantly surprise to find one person who gets it. When they don't I just chuckle knowing they don't get it and likely never will.

The best part is getting to tell Dad jokes when you are a Dad (@martian did you get the handbook yet?)

People often laugh at things I say. It catches me off guard because I am not intentionally funny. I just have odd word choices. My friends tend to have a dry sense of humor. I pick up their speech patterns. I like making people laugh but it is unintentional. Which of course makes it more hilarious to both me and that person when we realize I made a joke.

Sometimes I intentionally respond literally to a person's sarcastic remarks. As humor. It only works sometimes.

I'm fucking HILARIOUS! Any TFPer that has met me will agree. If they don't, they are humorless sacks of not fun. Everything I say deserves a laugh.

I didn't get a laugh out of *that* guy! GIVE THE LORD A LAUGH! *Cue laugh track*

Seriously, I think I'm funny and it is a matter of pride with me. I have used humor (self-deprecating or not) to get my way out of fights, trouble or when I've pissed someone off. I've used it as a weapon, a olive branch and a healing salve. I've broken people down as I used to take pride in making hostesses cry at restaurants. I've used it to get laid when there was no chance of them finding me attractive. I've joked with friends when they were depressed/sad to cheer them up.

I do have a way of picking on someone and making it fun. If I pick on you, I like you. (2nd grade playground rules)

Right now, I try to be the entertainer in the group. If I'm making people laugh, I don't think about how much I hate myself. My councilor and I have talked about me making jokes when I don't want to talk about something.

I have a dark and twisted sense of humor that @CinnamonGirl does enjoy (most of the time). People may find me funny, but really... I only care about making her laugh. She hears all my jokes, including the bad ones, and her laugh makes me smile more than anything.

She is a lot funnier than she says, but I'm usually the one making the jokes so I tend to "Steal" the lime light.

Third-party sources have stated I'm funny, so I'm sticking with that story.

On a related note, being self-aware enough to know you might lack a sense of humor is very acceptable. On the flip side, thinking you're funny when you are actually not makes you a prime candidate for a blanket party.

I love to laugh. Humour in all forms is best for me. My favorite is when the humour is pointed at a situation that is true. The truth is funnier than fiction.

Interestingly enough...I don't tell jokes well

My shtick is stories and banter
    Sarcastic lines about a situation

Or telling something absurd that happened

    I'm not like Rodney Dangerfield
    I'm more like Eddie Murphy

Although Eddie is a lot more vicious than me
Maybe I'll add in a bit of Robin Williams or Eddie Izzard for flavor
I've got too good a heart to cut people
