We all hit that one o'clock or two o'clock wall. The one that just slapped you in the face and you just get tired. Why is this? What do you do to prevent this? What do you do to cause this? My problem is I drink way too much coffee in the morning and do not sleep enough at night. So come one o'clock or 2 o'clock or normally right after I eat lunch. I just become tired so what do I do? I turned two more coffee. Is this the right answer no but it's what I do. I am not an energy drink person to what some people are but coffee is not any better.

Most of the time anymore I try to stay pretty low carb at lunch. Protein and some fruit or veggies. A salad with a healthy amount of meat and/or avocado on it for instance. Sometimes just some leftover taco meat and an orange. It helps most of the time.

On the days I'm really dragging (maybe 1-3x/month?) I'll grab a Pepsi Max. Not as awful as diet, but low cal with caffeine.

    I'm with Borla.
If I eat too much lunch I'm in trouble around 2:00.
And I avoid caffeine because it makes me jittery so I don't have that way to escape the 2:00 slump.

Yeah, for me it's more like 3:00-4:00 but I know exactly what you mean.
I have a sit/stand station at my desk so when I find myself starting to type nonsense I switch to standing up or may take a quick break to go outside for a few minutes.
Especially stressful days have a way of knocking me out towards the end so I try to be aware of those and do a little mental clean up.
Still doesn't help when I come home, sit down for 'a minute' before I make dinner and wake up an hour later with drool on my face and a sore neck.

    This.

For me, most of my post-lunch-grogginess happens when I pig out on carb-y stuff - sandwiches with chips, mexican food, etc.

On days that I either eat a protein-rich lunch or skip lunch entirely and just have lots of water I find I can work much more readily through the entire day.

Snack. Mini nap. Move on. Sips of green tea until 4pm.

Seriously, when I'm running or swimming (or lately, hiking) regularly, I very rarely hit that afternoon wall. I've also been limiting caffeine, which seems to help (no crash, I guess.)

Haha, you and me both, man! On work days, I have a cup of half decaf, half regular, then I switch to all decaf. At home, I'll grab a small cup if I'm awake when Eden brews some, otherwise just decaf.

Believe me, I'm the last person who thought I'd EVER be advocating for decaf, but I really was drinking way too much. The caffeine headaches SUCKED for about three days, but I was fine after that.

Oops, sorry. The caffeine withdrawal was what gave me headaches, because I completely cut myself off for a couple weeks.

Today, I hit a wall around 2. I only got about three hours of sleep last night, grrr. I ate a small cup of fruit and walked a few laps around the dining room at work. I feel better now, but I'll probably (hopefully) go to bed earlier tonight.

I'm walling right now. Two days of stomach issues and emotions and I'm tanking quickly. I start yawning daily at 4pm. No idea why then specifically.

For me it's the extra stress or weight that does it.
    A heavy meal doesn't help
I've never been the best sleeper.

My new job working at home allows me to take a catnap during lunch, so I don't get tired.
But sometimes I still need to kick it up a notch, so a coffee will do the trick. Not much...mostly, I drink water.

I hit the wall about nine hours after rising for the day. When it hits, I get up and take a short walk, get some fresh water and often, a citrus snack. I work from home which has a great positive impact in that I almost always get enough sleep. Getting through the wall time is pretty quick, generally.

Very true that regular exercise and moderate carbs/moderate-sized meals helps a great deal in not feeling sluggish.

I love coffee but only consume a maximum of 2 mugs per day between about 10-11 am. No caffeine after that.

We joke that 5th period is nap class. I figure out ways to get around it. I try to make that class particularly active. It works.

I wish my office had a nap room. I only need 10 to 20 minutes.

When I work from home, I almost always take a nap.

When I was working in an office keeping normal business hours, 8-5, lunch 12-1, I'd hit the wall at around 3. As others have mentioned, lunch is the likely culprit.

At home, my daytime eating habits aren't based on time. Sometimes I nap, other times I'll drink a large mug of tea, and/or walk around a bit doing upper body stretches.

I don't drink coffee, but I'm not averse to caffeine. So I do take caffeine pills. My job as a banker has too much sitting so that drags me down. A usual caffeine pill has 200 mgs of caffeine. I can handle that, but don't need or want that much. So I break them in half. If I'm dragging from lack of sleep then I might take two halves throughout the day. But caffeine is a wonder drug. One of the safest, most beneficial drugs out there that actually does what it is supposed to with almost no risk in moderation.

Coffee is a sacrament around our house, though I do mix up my beans to obtain "half caf". My wall is more like 6pm when I've simply had enough for the day. No solution that I'm aware of.
