Does anyone really drink as much water as you should?

I ask this because the goal seems totally unrealistic. If I drink half the amount of water an adult is supposed to, I am up constantly at night peeing. Also this would mean I don't even have time to drink other beverages of any kind. In order to fit all the water in I would need all the hours of the day to accomplish it. This is on my mind because I'm currently doing a "cleanse" and water is very important in the process. How much plain water do you drink?

Healthy adults under normal conditions consume sufficient amounts of water from an average diet. You don't need to go out of your way to drink a certain amount of water unless you're pregnant, out in the heat, doing strenuous activities, or have a medical condition which may be mitigated by fluid intake, such as chronic kidney disease.

"Cleanse" diets do not have an evidence base, so it will be no more effective in improving your health than a medically recommended diet would (and possibly will only harm you).

It's a myth what some say people are "supposed to" drink.
The key is to hydrate yourself decently.
    For what YOUR body needs.
And this is between you and your doctor...and likely, if you're self-aware, you'll know better...you know your body.

If you drink too much water, you may stress and wear the kidneys
    There is a balance.

Some forget to drink or don't drink enough...for "them"
    Others over do it.

** I'd get the advice of your doctor if the cleanse diet is valid or even safe.

BTW...the water coming from your faucet should be no more better or worse than any bottled water. (maybe filtered but that's it)

Me, I drink a lot, always have...and I pee a lot. (yes, perhaps at times, once in the middle of the night)
But I also make sure not to overdo it.
And the water I have is chilled faucet water from a pitcher in the fridge. (no ice needed - although using a glass is nicer, IMHO)

    You drink, you pee...classic biology.
Just make sure it is in moderation for your own body and situation.

I drink a 20oz Contigo Fit throughout the day. I usually drink about 3-4 of them so 60-80 oz. If I don't drink them I will drink the same amount in soda or juice which I know is very bad because of sugars and calories.

If I swap to tea, I drink about the same amount if not more because I like the slow burn caffeine buzz.

The cleanse is only for 10 days and I've done it before :) It just got the ball rolling with consuming more water than I normally do. I usually walk around pretty dehydrated because without a goal I forget to drink nearly as much as I'm supposed to.

I try to hit around 80 ounces a day (just under 2.5 liters.) Sometimes more, sometimes less, and I nearly always have a can of soda and a cup of coffee as well. (yeah, I kinda do pee a lot, now that you mention it.)

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

Easy answer: Look at the color of your urine.
If it's clear or lightly colored you're drinking enough. Don't worry about an artificial target number someone claims you need.

I do drink a lot of water daily. Up to 2 litres I'm sure. However I also drink coffee and alcohol so I am acute to my need for hydration

No clue how much water I drink in a day, but I it's a lot. I keep a 32oz glass with me all the time, I fill it up any time it gets down to 1/3 or less, which happens multiple times a day. Sometimes I'll drink more than a full one with a meal.

I know I don't, was told as much by my urologist.
He said I needed to increase my intake by half again as much which doesn't seem like a challenge until you are monitoring yourself and have to fight to keep drinking.
On the other hand I avoid kidney stones by drinking enough water so yeah, bring on the water.

I'm doing water therapy. I drink a lot of water even. Especially in summer, I almost consume 5 Liters of water per day. I'm doing this for a week or two. My purpose? I really don't know, I just need to drink and drink. I don't wank colored, cola, coffee or something not clear as water.
