Girl convicted of involuntary manslaughter after boyfriend commits suicide.

Conrad Roy was 18 and Michelle Carter was 17 at the time. Conrad had struggled with emotional issues and had openly contemplated suicide. When he did kill himself (carbon monoxide poisoning via car) the police found extensive text conversations and phone records which established that Michelle Carter had encouraged him to kill himself.

At one point he even got out of the car and she texted him to get back in. The conversations I've read have been very morbid and troubling.

She was eventually charged in connection with his death. Today she was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, which essentially means she was criminally reckless/negligent and should've known her conduct could contribute to the victim's death.

Obviously what she did was truly despicable. But some have argued that an adult committing suicide can't really be someone else's fault on a criminal level.

    What are your thoughts?

As someone who deals with suicidal thoughts on a daily basis, she deserves to have every book in the commonwealth thrown at her. This was a game for her and she didn't care. There is toying with someone's emotions and then there is this shit.

She didn't care that he was suicidal and told classmates she "thinks she heard him die". I have nothing but hate for her.

I remember years of women emotionally abusing me during a time when I was at my lowest. They did it without a care in the world over how they their words struck me.

I hope she gets 20 for this.

I agree that she had a role and should definitely be charged. She knew he was vulnerable. It's inexcusable.

  4. Probably referring to me.....

She played a role in his death, and there should be consequences. Hopefully this will be a deterrence to awful little shits like her. Probably not, but there's hope.

I think of those bullying stories where kids kill themselves because of the awful things little pricks say/do to them. I think they should spend some time in jail too.

How is this only involuntary manslaughter?
I really, truly, don't understand why this isn't considered murder.

  6. There are very weird rules on what constitutes murder, and that differs from state to state. The whole hired hitman thing gets pretty murky too.

Her lawyer may have argued that since she did not "pull the trigger" that it wasn't murder. Then was this pre meditated? What was the intent? It's weird.

It's great that she got anything though.
