When was the last night that you slept alone?

I asked myself this question this evening, as my husband and daughters went to their friends' house.
I honestly don't know the answer.
I have slept with a spouse or a child every night for a very long time.
Considering how late I'm staying up working on stuff, apparently I find it a challenge to remember to go to sleep if I don't have family present reminding me to take care of myself. I look forward to their return.

I do not wish to live in a vacuum. What about you?

Thursday night I slept alone. I was in Indianapolis for work. Typically I sleep alone at least once a week due to work travel, sometimes twice.

Honestly, it is a nice routine for both my wife and I. We do really enjoy spending time together, but it is nice to have one evening each to do our own thing. She watches whatever shows she knows I don't like, or goes to a gardening class, or whatever. I don't usually do anything too exciting (usually a nice dinner, often alone, which I don't mind), but it's kind of become our routine.

Generally Sandy and I spend the weekends together.
And during the week I may fall asleep alone in bed, but wake up with my GS, I don't know when it was. However I do enjoy sleeping alone.

  6. Last night. All of this past week, actually. QW spent the week in Minnesota, helping our daughter move into a new apartment. I'm ready for her to come home.

A few weeks ago, hubs spent the night out. I don't mind the time up until going to sleep. And I don't like waking alone. It brings up old memories. Before that, it was a hike in September he went on in Maine for 9 days.

Since I left the old life behind and moved in with my Lady in April 2007 we try to be together whenever possible. She proposed we take an oath to that effect. I thought there would be times it wouldn't work, so I said let's try our best while doing without the oath part. She has taken me with her while travelling to Qatar, Kuwait, China, Ireland, Sweden, France, Italy, Tonga, New Zealand, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and all over the USA and Canada.
Offhand, in the past decade I can think of 5 different times where we didn't sleep together.
Once she went on a girls weekend to Chicago with her sister and the girl (she wanted me along, the girl and sister wanted the girl thing. I was willing to pass on sis's 24/7 company. Besides, I had an art show to prep for).
Once she had a conference she was presenting at across the country in Vancouver while I hosted a studio art tour at our house here in town.
Once she had a conference in Calgary that was bookended by a conference we'd been together in Vancouver, another one shared in Winnipeg, and another one we were going to in Halifax. It seemed like an extravagance to pay for my flight from Toronto in order to spend one night together considering all the flights we had been/were going to be on, especially because I needed prep time for another art show. Canadian flights generally are stupid expensive. We regretted that decision to not be together - in the end it felt like I should have gone with her.
I spent 6 months living out of town w my very senior parents during my dad's end game - that was a long, lonely slog where she visited me when possible and I got the occasional respite visit home. Very dark time.
And finally a couple of weeks ago I had pneumonia while she had a conference she was presenting at out of town. I was too ill to handle the travel and hanging out in a hotel room during days of heavy rain. She couldn't cancel because she was a keynote speaker. Total bummer, but it is what it is.

Last night. Tonight. I sometimes enjoy it, but do like going to sleep next to someone. But, it's life.

Tonight and tomorrow will be alone. Hubs is finally going to use his work benefits. He's going to Munich with his intern for the weekend. And no, that's not a euphemism, heh. They work for an airline.

  14. DaddySquirrel has to travel for work often, but hasn't had to these past few months.

I get a bit of anxious insomnia here and there, so I retreat to a guest bedroom or family room couch to prevent waking him. I have to busy my mind with sound so that it will turn off and allow me to slumber.

Last night. Sometimes I really enjoy sleeping alone but sometimes everyone needs to be hugged and you need to talk to someone before closing eyes. There are moments when u really need that!

Hubs made up for the two nights alone by sleeping wrapped up in each other all night. First time I haven't felt smothered like that.

A couple weeks ago. I felt sick and hubs had a weekend with friends planned. I stayed home to recover and he went.

Usually if we're apart, it's because one of us is gone on business. I'm usually out of town for conferences and meetings 4-5 times a year, and he's usually out of town for business 4-5 times a year.

It's summer vacation, my wife is currently on the other side of the world and will be for weeks.

    Answer: last night.

  20. I enjoyed a brief spell recently sleeping with a beautiful woman a couple times a week for a few months, but otherwise I always sleep alone... if you don't count my cats.
