The American Civil War happened. The Union armed forces defeated the Confederate armed forces, who put up a much better fight than the Union expected. While I find the use of the Confederate flag as a symbol for racism and a battle cry for "the South" to rise again repulsive, I think that we have to take the good with the bad when it comes to Confederate monuments, museums, etc.

Political correctness can be taken too far. The story in the link is rather superficial, I'm trying to find one that goes into more detail.

Civil War museum closing after asked to remove Confederate flags

Nash Farm Battlefield museum to close after commissioner requests removal of Confederate flags

It seems that this is being fought mostly on FB. I don't have a FB account, & won't use MW's to find the posts.

Russian Breach of 39 States Threatens Future U.S. Elections

This may affect ALL modern democracies everywhere...

It's not just the Russians, but anyone can affect the votes and races anywhere.
Even internally, party to party...or even just random anarchist groups trying to just musk up the system or event.

We may have to go back to old-school physical counting for confirmation.

You cannot project the winner (something I hate media doing...)
    As this affect others' votes
AND there tends to be a momentum that's followed after the fact.

Personally, I wish there was a law that prevented media speculation until the vote is FULLY counted. (AND confirmed)

but no, we make everything into a superbowl presentation these days
and idiots get pushed in by whomever got control of the mechanism
or just because no one wants to try to stop the "announced" winner.

    Y'know...you CAN correct your course...
There is no law against that

That would most certainly not be allowed as it would infringe on Freedom of Speech.

Heck, if Citizens United is allowed to stand...

It just gets more bizarre by the day.

Yesterday, the White House informed the press that today's press briefing could not be recorded and that the White House press could not report that it was not to be recorded.

Europe has been working to expose Russian meddling for years

Looks like the Cold War never went away...Russia played nice for a bit, got a job...then went back to its Vokda driven alcoholic ways...lashing out at everyone.
The UK has recognized the Cold War addiction
The US is still being an enabler and whacking off.

Americans have to get their shit together and TRULY go after them. (not Military, CYBER and anti-propaganda)

It's like we're back in the friggin' 50's with this shit.

Yeah, it's like a thinly veiled call to arms. But I'm sure it's totally fine because it's couched in specious moral terms. To me (an outsider), it felt more like a metaphor than a message intended to be sincere and to be taken at face value.

I'm frightened by it, it has one of the galvanizing forces to band others behind it, hatred. I've never ever felt actual loathing for the NRA until this message. Now just really puzzled by this stance, and the implied threats.

At the very least, it's a deeply irresponsible move by a well-established and influential organization with many political ties.

Opinion | Americans put Trump in the Oval Office. What does that say about the country?

I think the media is giving most too much credit.
First a significant portion of the population does not care or is distracted to participate. They don't vote.

Of the voters...a BIG percentage vote, but it isn't with knowledge or awareness...it's by instinct and warm & fuzziness...a gut feeling.
The "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" crowd

They vote on personality. (and some rep)

It was the difference between the Jock BMOC douchebag and the Icky smart girl.

Who they want to sit at the lunch table with.

    It's as basic as that.

Yes, many people of the world vote for our leaders...who have impact on us and change the whole consequences of the nation...
...by thinking "yeah I'll eat my sandwich next to them"

    THAT what says about us.

There are people who support the leader no matter what.
There are people who question the leader no matter what.

What does that say about people??

If something smells fishy...why not question it?
If something is clean and basically functioning...why throw doubt??

    Me...I've always gone by WYSIWYG.
If there's smoke, then investigate if there's a fire.

Why do people presume either way??

Why are people still racist? What science says about America’s race problem.

Racism just doesn't compute to me.
I take people for how for how they treat me, not what they are.
The quality of their actions, not what they look like.

It surprises me when people are racist,
it also disappoints me when some overly blame things due to their race. (and this is the line that often upsets people the most...)

If the politicians are shocked by what's going on with Harvey,
then they better get ready for more.

Storms will be knocking down cities like pins, like a bowler that's found their rhythm.
Not that hurricanes are increasing with climate changes,
but the impact is more significant with the rising of ocean levels.

It's not whether humans are at fault or not (although they could be a factor amongst others, everything counts)
It's that it IS happening...and what are the consequences.
more and more floods will occur.

Duh, this is what happens when ice melts.

The water is heating up and absorbing a lot of the heat. The water evaporates and increases the humidity to make it feel hotter, and leads to bigger storms.

(This is after a large amount of rain fell and it was cloudy for the past few days over Texas.)

I travel enough that I always have a bag packed. And give me 1-2 hours and I can put 80% of the stuff I care about in my house into my car. Including a tent, emergency food, and water.

It is earthquakes, home fires, and tornadoes that are sudden and more of a problem to prepare for that I worry about.

Tell me if this is crazy or not. I haven't heard anyone talking about it though.

If the Democrats look poised to take back control of the House in 2018 (Jan 2019), we might see Trump and possibly even Pence get impeached and removed from office prior to Jan 2019. Because it will never happen after 2019. And Paul Ryan would be a stronger Presidential candidate to run in 2020 and then 2024.

If Trump is still President in 2019 and the Democrats are in control of the house, Trump will get impeached in the House, and the senate will be tied up with a trial and investigations if the Democrats take over. But there needs to be 67 votes in the senate to remove the President. And if the Democrats regain control in 2019 of the House and Trump and Pence are removed from office somehow, Nancy Pelosi will become President. Then I have no idea what that will mean for the cabinet positions, and even who becomes Vice President. Could Pelosi choose Hillary as VP? How would Trump supporters react to this happening? What would that mean for the 2020 election?

    Impeachment of the president, explained

I don't see that scenario ever happening.

I could see Trump stepping down, or being impeached, but it will likely end up with Pence as President.

That said, I am not convinced the Democrats can take back the House. Between their lack of solid messaging, and rampant gerrymandering, it doesn't give me a lot of hope.
