Well this sub forum is pretty much dead now, but I'm just seeing if anyone is buying any NFA items before the 41F ruling takes effect in mid July.

I just purchased a silencero specwar in 5.56 and might pick up a Daniel Defense MK18 sbr, just because.

Really wanted the Gemtech HALO before they instituted stupidity, but I suppose that will have to wait. So far, my experience with center-fire cans is that the noise reduction is meh, and the can shifts a lot of mass to the front of the weapon. I can see why people like SBRs with suppressors.

An Air Force buddy of mine put together an 11.5 with a suppressor and timney trigger and it's a blast to shoot. Let us know how your project turns out.

Yeah I decided to get the DD Mk18, except when I contacted the dealer about a week after I bought the saker he said he was completely cleaned out and I couldn't find any locally.

So I decided I would do a form 4 on the BATFE's e-form system to get approval to convert my backup DD rifle to an SBR (it's one of the super old m4V1 models with the heavy-assed quad rail, carbine length gas system, and fixed front sight sticking up through the rail that I got off gunbroker for $875 a few years ago in virtually new condition). My plan is, once that gets approved, just go out and buy a Mk18 upper to replace the old upper. And of course affix the suppressor to it. TWO STAMPER BABY !

But of course the e-form system had completely crashed in the 2-3 days leading up the July 13th deadline and never came back online. So on July 12th I was frantically printing out duplicates and of course making sure the forms had been printed on the front and back of each sheet of paper per the BATFE's paper reduction rules. Then I frantically drove to the post office to make sure the correct postage got on the super thick and heavy envelope, and watched the front desk lady put the postage stamp and date on the envelope to make sure everything went ok.

But yeah, that was super enjoyable how the BATFE wasn't prepared for the high demand placed on their servers which was created by their very own deadline. Federal gov't ftw !

I actually quite like the DD M4V1. I got an entire rifle for about $950 back when the panics died down. The government cut barrel is light enough to maneuver quickly, and you can get your support hand pretty far forward to deleverage any weight out front. What kind of optic are you thinking? I'm contemplating a second SCAR17 before the election since it's likely that prices will be even higher post November.

Well right now I have an aimpoint PRO on it because I wanted a budget high quality red dot, but it wouldn't make sense to have such a large and heavy optic on an SBR. So I would probably put some sort of aimpoint micro on it.

Do you really like your scar so much that you're going to buy another one? It seems like it has lost quite a bit of the buzz it had a few years ago.

Yeah, it's an awesome platform. Lightweight and extremely accurate. Pretty much the only viable .308 battle rifle candidate.

As a machine gun owner of many years, the 41F changes actually appear to make things EASIER for private owners like me. Mainly, it because the change eliminates the need for a CLEO sign-off before submitting a Form 4. That was always a pain-in-the-ass before!

Finally got to take home my specwar suppressor woot woot !

On the other hand, my form 4 to convert my DDM4V1 was returned to me for corrections because the examiner said I need to correct the model name from "DDM4V1" to "DDM4" and initial and date the corrections then send it back in. Uhhhhhh ok. What a joke.
