It looks like the person leaking classified information has been identified. I wonder how much other information he had he staff quietly release to shape the media narrative and create distractions?

Another one bites the dust... Donald Trump's DC swamp purge is really picking up speed - CNNPolitics.com

Woah. I missed the Boy Scout thing! Thanks for sharing it.

We can't forget that violence seems to be his modus operandi.
“When you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over?” Trump said, miming the physical motion of an officer shielding a suspect’s head to keep it from bumping against the squad car.

“Like, don’t hit their head, and they just killed somebody — don’t hit their head,” Trump continued. “I said, you can take the hand away, okay?”

The scout thing was at once bizarre-o and also entirely expected. Like, putting Trump in front of a crowd always goes exactly the same way. The fact that he'd deem it appropriate to talk about the swamp and sex yachts in front of a bunch of children is as unsurprising as it is insane.

It's really just another gaffe. Add it to the pile The Priebus situation is far more interesting. The Mooch rolls in and tells Donnie, "fire Reince" and Donnie just goes and does it. Hmm.

Some folks are saying this is Trump turning on the establishment Republicans. His base started doing that over a week ago, when McConnell failed for the umpteenth time to ram an Obamacare repeal through. Folks are expecting some kind of rift between Donald and the GOP, and that the GOP is going to come out on top. I don't see it; the Republicans are not going to risk alienating the craziest part of their base. Reince is the sacrificial lamb and he was declaring his love for big brother even as they dragged him up to the altar. If that's not a sign for how the winds are blowing, I don't know what is.

No, see, this is his base though. The world is black and white. Good guys and bad guys. The people getting arrested are criminals -- why else would they be arrested? -- and criminals are subhuman. Subhumans don't deserve human dignity. In the world of Trump and his followers, showing respect or concern for the wellbeing of someone who is under arrest is nonsensical. Simple, emotional narratives. It's where they're at. Trump is a master craftsman. He can't string three sentences together on the same subject to make a coherent thought, but pushing the right buttons to elicit a response out of his base is something he does like he's Johnny on his goddamned fiddle. It's savant-level stuff, honestly.

"...he was declaring his love for big brother even as they dragged him up to the altar," Perfect.

“If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death.”

Actually @martian it's not good vs evil
Although they may rationalize it that way
It's more like the Red Sox vs the Yankees
    It's team oriented...fan based
    Tribal
    Very elemental
    Them vs us

Tangentially related, but McCain might be one to watch in the coming weeks. Glioblastoma is a tough diagnosis; he's got probably less than two years. Median survival rate is about 15 months I think but he's no spring chicken, which won't help his odds.

At first I thought the fact that McCain was getting all the credit for killing the Obamacare repeal seemed unfair, when Senators Collins and Murkowski were the ones who staunchly opposed it from the start and put a Republican majority out of reach on several past votes. But discussion on Reddit clued me into a senatorial point of order that I was not aware of; by voting in favour of bringing the bill to debate and then subsequently voting it down, McCain created a situation where a full Obamacare repeal would now require a 60 vote majority to pass. 60 votes is not possible without Democratic support, and no Democrat is going to support a repeal of Obamacare, so that dream is effectively dead.

I do think we could be hearing more out of him in the next few weeks/months. He's not going to finish out his term and he knows it. He's spent the past few years following party lines, but he is effectively free from any restrictions now since he doesn't really have to worry about support, and probably thinking a lot about what he wants his last legislative acts to be.

I'm holding out hope that he'll surprise a lot of people in the end.

    kramus what I might see

The McCain thing. I'm guessing he went on a hike w his daughter after his death diagnosis and had a Trudeau moment - that "walk in the snow" epiphany. Only in McCain's case the experienced political saw a series of jigsaw pieces shift and a clear, healing path to the other side of Trump shone forth.
Your comment @martian about the 60 votes is telling. McCain would see such things as obvious moves he now can make. I'm guessing he has at least 2 more substantial, yet subtle things he will possibly effect before his permanent medical leave takes place.
"They" may have him whacked if it becomes obvious it's the only way to derail his kamikaze path to posterity/glory.
