I've been listening to punk rock music these days because I miss it. I miss the edginess. I miss the hard guitar. I miss the lyrics.

Since I got SiriusXM, I've been listening to lots of metal and punk rock, specifically the Faction Punk station. I started out listening to the GnR station which was a limited time station for 1 month. The station it had displaced was the punk station.

Faction Radio ft. Jason Ellis – Hear Top Rock, Punk & Hip Hop Music
Faction Punk - Punk Rock Music all day. Oi! Pop Punk, Mall Punk, Classic punk, Hardcore, Trash Punk, Brand new Punk, unreleased Punk, rare Punk, Cowpunk. Whatever-We-WANT-to-Play-Even-if-it's-NOT-Punk Punk. And Bryan Cullen has a Punk Rock Morning show.

The station reminded me of the original punk music I really loved as a teen, The Vandals, Social Distortion, Sex Pistols, Suicidal Tendencies, Bad Religion and much more that I'm forgetting.

Did you have a favorite punk band? What was your favorite song?

This is one of my favorite punk bands, The Vandals. This album and the follow up were played over and over by me as a teen.

I had two favorites I discovered back in high school: The Dead Kennedys and the Dead Milkmen. I loved the Dead Milkmen for their humor and the Dead Kennedys for the messages.

I still think this song is relevant today:

The lyrics just crack me up:

I got to see them up here in what amounted to a concrete box back in the 80's and was close enough to get sweat on by Mike Ness.
I saw them again 8 years ago opening for the Foo Fighters, way up in the cheap seats of a huge auditorium and it was just as impressive.

    The Cramps
Love these guys so much I wrote a column about them.

I don't need my punk to be "pure" or not "sell out" or other ideal biases
I'm about good music that hits you.

So, top 2 that comes to mind immediately ...
    Ramones
    Green Day

I'll add more as I sleep on it
    My punk is pooped tonight

I get into the punk orbit at least a few times a year. Even though my favorite musics are Classical and Western Swing, I love me some Ramones, XTC, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Velvet. And some of the more "inventive" bands (not really punk) like Devo, Wall of Voodoo/Stan Ridgway, Talking Heads, and a half-dozen more. I'll revisit. I'm slightly drunj, and too tired to look up some tunes.

    Ramones baby.
    Gabba gabba hey!
And I'll second Lindy on Talking Heads.

  11. I knew you were my favorite for a reason!

Aside from what @MeltedMetalGlob listed, I am a Riot Grrl. I still listen to Bikini Kill and Le Tigre.

And Sleater-Kininey. I made my rugby team pull over so I could get a picture of Sleater-Kinney road in Washington when we drove by it on the way to a match.

I tend to lean more towards pop-punk than straight-up punk (and really, some of the genres bleed into each other eventually, anyway.) But MAN, I love the Vandals.

I guess that one's my favorite, but really, just about anything off Hitler Bad, Vandals good or Live Fast, Diarrhea.

I also really like Social Distortion, Dead Milkmen, the Ramones, the Clash, and pretty much every 80s & 90s punk album the guys played at the theatre I worked at in high school (I was sixteen, and they were my gateway to punk. Bless them.)

Also: punk cover band! I'm not usually big on covers, but I like a lot of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

I didn't realize that the Vandals had more albums to listen to. I definitely like the original lineup so I'll have to spread out to listen to their "new" stuff. Thanks @CinnamonGirl
