Today's music doesn't wear out, but back in the day of physical analog media, you could literally wear out an 8-track, cassette tape or vinyl record.

What albums did you have to buy again and again?

Oingo Boingo - Only A Lad got so much play that I think I bought the cassette at least 4 times.

Same thing for Danny Elfman - SoLo, I bought this as a CD but had to keep recording it to tape because I kept wearing it out as I didn't have a CD player in my car.

Worn out, bought way too many times, in way too many formats?
That would have to be this one.
I've owned owned four different versions of the soundtrack, the Broadway show, the English show and two different versions of the movie plus a special box set of both.

My one flirtation with prog rock was with Rick Wakeman (we won't get into the Moody Blues) and this album got played to death.
I have bought it a few times.

It wasn't until 1980 until I heard One Way Or Another (Alaska was always behind the times) but I promptly went out and bought Parallel Lines in vinyl.
I have owned it in four different mediums over the years, finally getting it in the repress last year.

I've had to replace both my copies of Achtung Baby by U2 and (What's the Story) Morning Glory by Oasis multiple times.

If I had a real copy of it, I would have worn out Ellie Goulding's Halcyon and Halcyon Days by now. I'm bummed that Delirium was a bit of a disappointment to me--it was a departure from what I like about her music (interesting electronic backdrop, provocative percussion, poetic and complex lyrics). Too much pop sheen.

We had a ton of albums when I was growing up- unfortunately, my older brother always took everything out of the house to sell for beer money, as he couldn't hold down a job to save his life. Therefore, we never had an album long enough to wear it out.

Also, I'm not going to lie- every time I see this thread I think of this:

    P. S. - @cynthetiq - I'm listening to that Oingo Boingo album you linked to- I might have to pick that one up on CD! :)

Not sure that I've ever worn an album out; but there are plenty that I've bought multiple times for other reasons.

My first LTR cleaned me out of Yes, Pink Floyd, & the Allman Bros among others. The bitch, I was more pissed about that than screwing my roommate.

My stereo and record collection was used for several years of parties. Drunks falling over/into my turntable took out a few. The dumbasses would generally replace the $5 album; but not the $50 needle.

Then everything went from vinyl to cd, then remasters, and high res remasters ...

I don't know how many copies of these that I've bought:

The Allman Brothers Band Live at the Fillmore Easr
    Yes Fragile
Beatles Rubber Soul & Abbey Road
    Eric Clapton Slowhand & Layla

I can't tell you how many times I had to purchase Zepplin IV because some asshole stole it at one of my parties. Same thing for Expose's first album Exposure.

I wore out the BENNY GOODMAN 1937 CONCERT AT CARNEGIE HALL.
Then I paid a small fortune to replace the vinyl 33's only to find that it had been reissued on CD...which I still play....
All you young people have probably never even heard it.....CLASSIC

  15. I'm not sure I wore these out myself; in my high school years, we passed albums around without thinking about it. My copies of the following are trashed--and still precious to me:

    HEY JUDE--The Beatles
THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY--The Rolling Stones
    E PLURIBUS FUNK--Grand Funk
    COSMOS FACTORY--CCR

Of course, in those days, we didn't know anything about cleaning records.

    Led Zeppelin , IV.
Bob Marley & the Wailers, Babylon By Bus.
Lynard Skynard, the name of their early double live album escapes me.

Compare Benny Goodman & any of his orchestras to Fletcher Henderson & any of his orchestras. And for bonus points tell me why I chose Henderson.

The BENNY GOODMAN Carnegie Hall concert 1939(?) is the best music EVER...Those guys could really PLAY
The other BG albums, well, maybe Henderson is better....(but not better than Carnegie...)
