Ok. That's interesting about the water pipes. Are the NYC bagels boiled in this water prior to baking?

So reviewing the bagel types of the 4 of them I see these mentioned:

    NYC
    Montreal
    Baltimore/DC
    CT
    Grocery Store generic

So, the BROOKLYN WATER BAGEL COMPANY in Florida is installing old NYC water pipes....(vbg)
They do have what seems like an impressive piping system for the water.....

I used to go there in the morning. Now I prefer Ess-a-bagel on 1st ave.

The bagels from Brick Lane in London are amazing. Especially if you pick up a bag of them in the early hours as you are on your way back from a night out.

I call BS on the NYC water pipes idea.
It's the water itself......fresh and pure from the Catskill Mountains. NYC does not need an expensive water treatment system because of the incredibly clean water we send down there.

All the aquifers and places the water passes before it gets to NYC makes it good. Jersey and Long Island has some good bagels too as same water pretty much.

I'm not even bothering with Montreal bagels.

  9. I came to this thread because I'm hungry and I FUCKING LOVE BAGELS!

    Then I saw this....

I've met Greg! He did a talk at Oregon State University that I organized. He was super nice and gave me a signed photo and tons of NASA stuff.

Anyway....I want a bagel. There was this bagel shop in my hometown that made really good bagels and the sandwiches that they made with said bagels were the BEST!

I had a bagel this morning. An everything bagel at Bagels and Joe. A franchise chain, I think. Toasted, with smoked salmon cream cheese. Don't know whether it was New York, Montreal, or something else. Was pretty good-okay washed down with Sumatra dark roast coffee and cream.

    Franchise?
    Served toasted?
    Pretty good-okay?

I'm afraid to say but it's neither of the above.

Well then, it must be something else.:) I don't know enough about bagels to be a bagel snob. Food is a very subjective matter to me. If a food pleases me I don't deduct style points for lack of "authenticity." So, I might equally like a New York bagel, a Montreal bagel, and a toasted imposter. And since I mostly follow a controlled carb eating regime; a bagel doesn't cross my lips more than a couple of times in a year. So "Frankly my dear..." I don't much give a damn about bagels.
Bless me Father, for I have sinned...

You come to the big city and I'll take you for a NY bagel and see if we don't change your mind. :p
