The military, worldwide, has been, is, and will continue to be, made up of mostly males. I think the level of sexual harassment and assault of women in the military is incredibly high, probably shockingly high. The structure and procedures, controlled by males, makes it nearly impossible for women to file complaints and still have a career in the military.

Soldiers are employed under what is pretty much an iron-clad contract. It's pretty much an 'Accept what happens and keep quiet, or be forced to leave under a black cloud' situation. In the civilian world women face very tough battles fighting harassment and assault; in the military those battles are nearly impossible to win. Very few cases go public, and only in some cases is justice (reluctantly and partially) served.

The problem with making such a statement ^ is providing proof. The military has an excellent track record of secrecy and CYA.

I'm sorry. That's bullshit. We're forced to sit through a week's worth of Sexual Assault Training and basically told we're all rapists, and when I deployed you know who had sexual assault issues? A female. Against another female. Fuck off with the erroneous stereotypes.

You may not have run into any problems but the problem exists.

There is also a major problem with payback for reporting the problem.

Sexual assault reports in U.S. military reach record high, Pentagon says

If your experiences are contrary to what I posted, I'm very glad to hear that, although I view it as an exception.

The US military is roughly 85% male. That does not bode well for women filing, or even wanting to file, sexual harassment or assault charges. The culture is probably much better than it used to be, but far from where it should be.

I don't know why she didn't just say, "Stop it. No, I'm not interested." Or better yet, I don't know why she just didn't get up and leave.

I haven't run into so many of these problems. Maybe that's because I'm not a girl but feminism is for everyone right? Also it's not like there are worse problems?

Modern dating is a mindfield now. Girls want the guy to be confident and make the first move without them bringing out the checklist to get approval. Yet, only some guys get a free pass to do whatever, or maybe it is the situations that make them more om the mood to take the lead.

Aziz sounds like a typical guy who has little experience dating and is willing to keep going until the girl says no.

Probably should have flagged this as sarcasm. While Russia has been very involved in corrupting our elective process and evidence is mounting that many republicans are colluding if not outright treasonous assholes, I don't think she is a plant established years or decades ago.
The thing is, the shit coming out of the Republican party is so outrageous, that it's hard to discern what is reality or what is believable anymore. Trump declared his treason before the election, and people still voted for him. How pathetic is that? He told people his loyalty to Russia and they still voted for him.

Not a lot of women have replied to this, including women who are active elsewhere on the board.

    Let's be real a moment:

Lots of women have been sexually harassed, myself included. I get harassed frequently. It's apparently the price of having huge tits. I usually laugh it off. That doesn't make it more comfortable or somehow fun for me. It just means that I defused the situation and kept it from escalating.

And boy howdy, have I had it escalate! I had a situation a few years ago where an older gentleman had to step in because younger dude would not believe that 1) I was engaged, and 2) all marriages end in divorce. As a family studies major, I really appreciated being mansplained that my upcoming marriage would likely end in divorce. It was so attractive! Finally, A MAN stepped in, explained I wasn't interested, and then it stopped.

    WHAT THE FUCK.

This is common. This is just one story among many. FOR ONE WOMAN.

But boobs! You should get to stare at them, right?

    Fuck you.

I've been harassed, mostly hoots and catcalls. An occasional unwelcome touch. But I wouldn't call a pat on the butt or an arm around the shoulder a sexual assault. A grope, on the other hand, is different.

I spent three years as a stripper. There are some things that just go with that territory. I have to admit, I loved the applause, the whistles, and the bills in the g-string and bra. I liked being looked at. Still do, even at age 41.

When I lived in Boston there was a fair amount of attention to my tits (whistle and yells) on the street from construction workers, etc. In five years, that hasn't happened in Lincoln. It also seems that a lot of the time, unwelcome attention occurs in a place where alcohol is served. Coincidence? Most of the time, I just throw it right back. Looking at my tits from across the room is OK. Staring down my cleavage from two feet away is not. A light hearted riposte works better for me than telling them to fuck off.
I've also, on at least a couple of occasions, been "tit-shamed" by other women. No, they are not implants.

I also like sex talk, puns, word play, dirty jokes, porn. Even at work or school. Inappropriate perhaps, but I'm not automatically offended. Part of my persona. It's hard to know where to draw a line. And some men/boys would assume that because I liked sex, that i wanted sex with them. When I was younger, I know that I came on a bit too strong to a few men/boys, not recognizing to "not interested" signals. So I guess I've been guilty of harassment myself. I'm embarrassed looking back at it.:(

I'm confused. Veterinarian? Medical school (I'm aware that vet degrees require many years of higher education)? Slept with patient (animal? human?)?

I am tired of the whole thing. Women want to atract men. Men want to atract women. Most of our days, hours, are spent at work when we have energy.
Women please stop; hugging me, grabbing and squeezing my arms testing for muscle, looking me up and down, talking to your friends about me, allowing me to catch you catching a look, telling me you care about me because we are friends, avoiding all contact with my girl friends, watching what time I come and go, asking me what I do on break or what I had for lunch and whom did I eat with!
What am I saying??!! NO PLEASE DON'T STOP! I always want to be attractive! Just don't let me know that all my efforts are working?! No please let me know it helps my self esteem and justifies my time and money I've spent. Would everyone, that let it go years ago, please shut the fuck up.

Every once in a while, Congress comes together in a bipartisan manner and does the right thing.

In this case, passage of a bill to prohibit forced arbitration in cases when women allege workplace sexual harassment and employers want to keep the allegation private. This has been a priority of the #MeToo movement for four years.

Senate passes bill ending forced arbitration in sexual misconduct cases
As noted, the Senate vote today was unanimous (by voice vote). The House passed the bill earlier this week by a vote of 335-97; with all the NO votes coming from Republicans - House roll call vote.

Biden will sign the bill next week.
