The Falcons scored even fewer points, said Captain Obvious. Foles didn't throw a TD, but he played great ball control.

On the failed 4th down pass in the end zone in the last minute, was the contract by the defender legal? The announcers didn't say anything about it. A PI or holding call would've given the Falcons 1st down.

    --------

    Win, Titans, WIN!

    I can dream.

The Powers That Be in Buffalo figured out, after only one season, that rick "teflon" dennison sucks. Has his non-stick coating finally worn off?

All of the Falcons whopping 10 points came off Eagles flubs? That's lame.

The Titans are answering the question are they ready to play with the big boys?.

We pretty much had it figured out by mid-season.
Throwing the ball first and goal from the 1 in the playoff game was the clincher.

  6. The teams I have rooted for are now 0-6.

Today, I'm pulling for the Steelers and the Saints.

If the Steelers are up they should be able to control the Jags. If they're down......who knows?

IMO the best game should be the Saints at the Vikings. I'm rooting for the Vikings because of their long PO dry spell and of course Case Keenum.

CK will be free agent after the POs, unless the Vikings (who now have a glut of potential starting QBs) re-sign him. If an ageing mediocre QB like Ryan Fitzpatrick, and an unproven back-up like Osweiler, can squeeze 7M a year out of desperate teams, CK should be golden. Of course he could majorly crash & burn under PO pressure.

I had previously posted in another thread I'd like to send a Vikings number 12 jersey to little johnnie manziel; I'll add Bill O'Brien and Rick Smith to that list.

The Steelers were up, but not until the second half.

21-0. 28-7. 45-42. Frigging amazing. So much for a defensive struggle....although the defenses did struggle.

Hopefully the Vikings learned that a 17-0 lead isn't safe.

Oh sheet. Blocked punt by the Saints. Vikings damn near got it back with a pick but didn't. Now a Saints TD. 21-20.

All right, Vikings, three minutes to pull out the win.

  10. And I went 0-8 for those I rooted for the past two weekends.

    I wouldn't have picked it like that had I been gambling--which I don't.

    YES!

    YES!

    YES!

The Saints back who blew that tackle must feel like shit. And he took out the only other Saint with a chance to catch Diggs.

    What a fuck up.
How hard is it to understand that on that particular play, playing deep center field as it were, you have one job and one job only: Don't let anyone get behind you?

You don't have to read run versus pass. You don't have to show blitz. Yadda yadda yadda. Just don't let anyone get past you, OK?

Marcus Williams was behind the receiver, protecting against a deep pass. As for the other defenders I'm guessing that the Vikings sent out as many players as possible to play receiver in hopes of spreading the Saints' D. Williams came in too fast, and appeared to avoid the hit in order to avoid a PI call* which would've given the Vikings better field position and one last play to attempt a FG (the game can't end on a defensive penalty, even with zero time left). IMO he made two mistakes: Not thinking quick enough to slow down to make a legal tackle, and not tackling Diggs anyway and taking a chance on the Vikings missing the FG (I'm not sure what the distance would've been).

    * Jimmy Johnson didn't defend Williams, but did offer a sensible explanation. In all likelihood the coaches hammered home "don't commit a penalty" during the Saints final timeout, and Williams took it to heart. IIRC (?) Williams is a rookie (yes, he is).

Anyway....Case threw the ball high enough to make an interception difficult, and Diggs did a great job going up for it, and keeping his feet once he landed.

    -----------------------

Now I'm torn. I want Case & the Vikings to make it to the SB. The Eagles have been one of my favorites for years (I sympathize with their fans for having to hear decades of praise for the Steelers). I guess I'll look at the silver lining: Either way a team I like will play in the SB.

    ----------------------

Does anyone believe the Jaguars have a chance against the Patriots? I can see a close game for the first three quarters, with the Patriots pulling away in the fourth quarter.

I will be rooting for the Jaguars. Optimism vs Reality.

I used to be a total boxing nut way back, before cable-only and then PPV ruined it for me. I learned to view matches neutrally. When I noticed that one of my favorite boxers was showing signs of ageing I would still root for them, but could pretty accurately guess when they would be in for a tough fight/losing effort.

I refer to it as Heart vs Brain, and try to apply it to football.

The number of changes among GMs, coordinators, and assistants is mind-boggling.

The Seahawks hired Ken Norton, Jr as DC. After he was hired by the 49ers.

Norton completely SUCKED as DC with the Raiders; I'm not sure why two teams wanted him. Since the 49ers like Norton, maybe they could hire Rob Ryan (aaaauuuuggghhhhh!).

I wonder if the Brady hand injury is actually real, or at least exaggerated, as some psychological warfare from the Patriots.

I'm rooting for the Jaguars, but I live in the real world, there's no way I'd bet on them.

    Mentioning the Patriots...
What is going to happen if (more like when) they lose both their OC & DC? And if some other coaches follow the departing coaches? Next year could be very interesting for The Most Successful & Most Hubristic Team In Modern NFL History.

Huge mental mistakes on offense & defense by the Jags in the final two and a half minutes. Huge.
